There is a yellow rose in Texas...

I think that lyric has something to do with Tyler. If not, too bad. Looks like more of the cast of regulars will be back in action this next tournament. The heat should finally be enough of a factor to impact the outcome of matches so that should throw some wrinkles into things. I am not going to bother making any predictions this time around, other than there will be at least one rain shower during the event, most likely on Friday or early morning Saturday. No, I am not getting into meteorology. Its based on what seemed to happen every time I went to that tournament in years passed. Remember to BYOB, it is Tyler after all.

What about doubles?

Anonymous said...

Men's Open doubles: Ybarra and Melton
Men's 4.5 doubles: Vernon and Mills

Anonymous said...

Tought call in men's 4.5 I'd say either Vernonn/Mills or Green/Huffman.

Anonymous said...

Who is winning in Tyler?

Anonymous said...

The three players in Tyler I would not want to play in the first round that will not be seeded.

Green
Schmucker
Abshire

Will be interesting to see which seeds lose to the guys above.

Anonymous said...

Who's going to be the person that might win tyler unseeded or seeded in 4.0 since they have the bigger draw?

Anonymous said...

B. Myers for 4.0. Didn't drop a set until finals in Waco

Anonymous said...

Green
Schmucker
Abshire (aka little Agassi Jr.)

Yes indeed they are serious threat to the 1st Rd. seeded players.

Anonymous said...

the 4.5 seeds are a joke, but that's how it has always been but who cares?

Anonymous said...

Schmucker and Ashire are has beens neither of them have won a tourney in years. Schmucker and Ashire please stop living in the past, you were decent players a long, long time ago. When you win a match against a descent play then you can brag how good you are.
Green is still an excellent 4.5 player.

DINKER
P.S. I will kill Moser when I play him at Tyler.

Just so you guys know. Out of 70,000+ page views since this blog was created, you have only clicked on 27 ads for a whopping total of $10.32 in revenue generated over the life of this blog, which will be 2 years come July. Come on, why won't you help a brother out.

Anonymous said...

This site has ads? I use Firefox so didn't realize I was missing out on whatever porn this site was advertising.

Anonymous said...

The 10 guys who read this blog should just go in it together....open blog, click ads many times, share profit. Oh, and you all can still write senseless shit if you choose.

Anonymous said...

40 cents per ad-click is above average. Is it porn?

Journeyman said...

The ad comment was a joke not a actual plea for revenue. I think it actually comes out to pennies per click unless it actually leads to a transaction somewhere. I am pretty sure I can get by even if this blog never takes off beyond the 10 of us.

Anonymous said...

10 + 0ne (me) = 11
Did I do that right?

Anonymous said...

I doubt Green, Schmucker, Abshire got together at one time and decided to post about themselves on here. If I recall Schmucker won Tyler 2 years ago so I think you are wrong when you state he hasn't been good in years as well. I sure wouldn't want to play Abshire and Schmucker in the heat in Tyler.

I would have to pick Moser to be the favorite in Tyler though.

Anonymous said...

Why wasn't Kallus seeded? Doesn't he have like lifetime ranking points based on playing 200 tournaments? Should it even matter that he is not signed up in the draw?

Anonymous said...

Hey leave Kallus alone, he is my friend.

Anonymous said...

Put some porn add up, this way I can tell my wife I click on them accidently.

Anonymous said...

SLEEPER ALERT!!!

Adam Cherry in the 4.5's. I'm not saying he's going to win, but if he loses it will be to somebody good and it will be close.

Anonymous said...

Ok Adam.... Stop trying to play mind games. You will have a good tournament in consilation.

Anonymous said...

My money is on Pat Abshire. Watch out, here's comes little Agassi Jr.

Journeyman said...

Who would like to join me for 2 tacos from Jack in the Box? Your 5 clicks on Tuesday brought in $2.42 of revenue, a one day record for this site. Early retirement here I come.

Anonymous said...

Adam Cherry definitely has semifinal potential so I would be wary of facing him. He will not tire from the heat and he is basically a slight variation of Jason Gound-style tennis. Have fun.

Anonymous said...

HaHa I remember Abshire and Schmucker playing in Tyler a few years ago in the 5.0 division. Their semi-match was 4 1/2 hours and I think it was well over 100 degrees that day. Those two guys were crazy playing that long and if you ask me stupid. Ever heard of heat exhaustion. Would be funny if they had to play in the first round in Tyler.

Anonymous said...

last year 7 of the guys didn't even show up for their first round matches on friday morning in tyler. jason kern showed up at 8 am and his opponent didn't.

Anonymous said...

Pat's had good results in the past in Tyler but the fact that he did not do much of anything at the Gallery Major Zone in Houston makes me wonder if age is catching up with him. He is a great grinder but without any real weapons, he has to win by outlasting his opponent. Eventually you just can't do that anymore in tough, hot conditions. I have played Pat a few times and though I lost them all, they all went 3 sets and in every one of those matches Pat had to deal with cramping issues. That said, I wish him luck cause he's a good guy.

Anonymous said...

No question, Pat's a great guy and fierce competitor. He's willed himself to countless victories over the years, but the lack of weaponry is creeping up on him now. It's always a challenge to play him because you know he's going to bring the best he can on that day.

Anonymous said...

Hey Journeyman, I'll take you on that offer for 2 tacos from Jack in the Box. Could you throw in a large order of curly fries to go with that please?

Journeyman said...

Sure. Just click on 3 more ads and I can afford curly fries.

Anonymous said...

There, I clicked on all the ads for you, enjoy the tacos...

Anonymous said...

"jason kern showed up at 8 am and his opponent didn't."

Uh...Kern didn't play Tyler last year.

Anonymous said...

Maybe it was someone that looked like Kern in Tyler last year!

Jason Kern said...

Man I thought I was one of a kind!

Anonymous said...

If the ball melts in mid air due to the Tyler heat- Who wins the point????

Dink Dink said...

Draws are out

Jason Kern said...

4.5 Singles
3 seeds will lose their first match and only 1 or 2 will make the semis.
Semis
Moser vs. Green (boy wouldn't everyone be thrilled if it actually happened)
Hawkins/Schmucker winner (I'll take Hawkins assuming Schmucker hasn't been playing that much) vs. Cherry

Green over Cherry in the final.

4.5 Doubles
Vernon/Mills vs. Cherry/Rainwater
Oberg/Pollock (I know hardly anyone in this quarter) vs. Green/Huffman

Vernon/Mills defeat Green/Huffman. I do realize that's a lot of carrying for Mills but I think he gets it done.

Top half of each draw seems to be the tougher road in both cases.

Leach, sorry man didn't mean to put you into retirement!

Anonymous said...

Only the 8 seed loses 1st round, but several others fall shortly there after.

Can't argue with your semis predictions on singles.

Doubles on the other hand I think a surprise team at least makes the finals. It is Vernon's tournament to lose

Anonymous said...

Cherry is playing some good tennis, but his partner is too weak for them to make it to the doubles finals.

Anonymous said...

I predict Moser vs Schmucker in the 4.5 Finals. I heard both Moser and Schmucker have been playing a lot of tennis in Houston so perhaps they are ready for the tournament.

I also heard Schmucker was asking the tournament director if all of his matches could start at 2:00pm since it will be hot.

Hahaha

Anonymous said...

Anyone curious if heat rule will be in affect?

Anonymous said...

Someone help me with this. Why is Kallus not playing tournaments anymore? As far as I know he has had the same job and the same family the whole time he has been playing tournaments. So why is this all of sudden getting in the way of his playing the same tournaments he's played every year for the past 10 years. I think it is cause he has gotten old, lost a step, can't hand, however you want to put it and is just throwing in the towel and admitting he sucks at tennis.

Anonymous said...

The word "hand" was supposed to be "hang". Go ahead and attack my inability to spell.

Anonymous said...

How does the heat rule work?

Anonymous said...

Heat rule = 3rd set 10 point TB

Anonymous said...

Moser won't last to the finals in Tyler. I saw him play the finals of the small CTA tourney this weekend and he was totally worn out at the beginning of the second set against Aadrian. He took extended time between points, would lay on the court, and trudge after the third ball even when two were in hand. The last couple of games, he started cutting his backhand and forehand - he had no energy left. His gas tank was on empty. He's a very good 4.5, but he doesn't have the endurance to last.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker will win.

Anonymous said...

Is the heat rule mandatory?

Anonymous said...

Hey, I just cleaned out my cache,,,,, do you want all the porn for use on this site? Have to warn you,,,,, I have a mean nose ring fetish!

Anonymous said...

Any girls on this site,,, are just horn dogs.

Anonymous said...

I meant "or" not "are"!

SORRY about that LOTS,,, please don't rip me a new one!!!!

Now, what about those girls.

dinker said...

Sucks not being seeded, but I would like to get a bye in at least one of the draws. I guess I need to get in better shape and maybe practice someday. Don't know how I will do in singles but I will not lose the doubles final. If me and Huff make the doubles final we will win it. Kern...I will bet you lunch on the final in doubles.

Anonymous said...

Personally people pay alot of money to play in these tournaments and when TD's opt to use the heat rule it is because they themselves don't like sitting out in the heat - not the players.

The rule should NEVER be used for Major Zones. Tyler is typically good about it, but that joke of a tournament in Ft. Worth almost always uses it.

Anonymous said...

I wish I knew who this guy was that has it in for Kallus so bad. I think he was one of the nicest guys on the circuit and he was definitely way beyond fair when it came to line calls. If Kallus carried on the way you always make it sound like he does then my guess is that you were either a cheater or an ass and deserved to be disrespected. If you talked that way about me, I would team up with LOTS and beat the shit out of you.

Anonymous said...

Dinker, aren't you on a finals losing streak?

Anonymous said...

Tim don't start making excuses of losing because you haven't been playing and you are out of shape. If thats the case then just stay home instead of playing Tyler

darkhorse said...

Interesting first round matches. Who will win?

Noel (4) vs. Patch

Stollenwerck (8) vs. Abshire

Cherry vs. Dutchover

Schmucker vs. Walker

Merritt vs. Wise

Anonymous said...

Dinker,

You would have gotten a bye in doubles if Hicks/Rivas and Garza/Bumgarner weren't playing 4.0 AND 4.5 doubles. What is up with that? You should mow thru that doubles draw. There aint a team in it that is worth a crap.

Jason Kern said...

Dinker, I know you have a much superior partner than you did in Waco so your chances of winning the doubles is much better but I'll take the lunch bet. However, if you don't make the finals you have to give me the stringer.

Anonymous said...

Dinker, do you have a bye now?

Men's 4.5 Doubles Draw:
Please note that the Men's 4.5 doubles draw was redone on Tuesday, June 16th at 8:05 am due to tournament administration error.

Anonymous said...

No bye for Green but now he gets to play Jason Gound first round in doubles. Good luck.

Anonymous said...

Gound is not a good doubles player. Moser and Kallus beat him and Leach easily in Abiline a couple of years ago. His round house ground strokes are deadly in singles but don't really translate to the doubles court. Match to Green.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about doubles. There is a reason why there is no coverage of doubles on TV unless it is a filler due to rain.

Singles is where the action is don't be fooled. Test of physical fitness, mentally tough, and able to withstand the dreaded Texas heat at least until October.

Anonymous said...

'least until October'

Nov-Dec is pretty damn hot too.

Anonymous said...

I personally prefer singles, but I think doubles is where you separate the men from the boys at 4.5. If you watch a 4.0 MZ singles final and compare it to the 4.5 singles final there isn't a huge difference. The 4.5 doubles final is light and day ahead of the 4.0 doubles final.

Anonymous said...

What are going to be the first seeded player to have a upset in 4.5 and 4.0

Anonymous said...

There is a lot more sandbagging in both 4.0 singles and 4.0 doubles.

Anonymous said...

i won't say singles is boring, but to me it is less exciting than doubles.

yes, the singles guys can go out there and "grind it out" for 3+ hours, and normally have the better strokes off the ground, however....

doubles, especially in the 4.5 and above levels, requires players to use a variety of shots, angles, and strategy to win a match.

the majority of points are much shorter, but the long doubles points are much more enjoyable to watch/play than many singles points.

Anonymous said...

HaHa doubles is for players that cannot play singles. Also, you see a lot of out of shape players(big gut) playing doubles as well.

What would really suck is driving all the way to Tyler just to play doubles then lose first round and guess what you are out of the tournament.

Anonymous said...

Doubles is for rich or fat folks. Higher entry fee (without justification) and no consolation.

Anonymous said...

You must be a 3.5 or 4.0 guy if you think doubles is a bunch of old fat guys.

Make a drive to sectionals some time and watch the 4.5 finals and the Open level doubles play. That is some serious play going on. Anyone less than avg 4.5 level would shit their pants to have to stand at the net and have to see some of the down the line returns coming at them.

Anonymous said...

Please, let's not start comparing open and 4.5. It's a world apart. I can see your comparison of 4.0 and 4.5 (remember 4.0 graduate Jason Kern?), but a 4.5 graduate as yet to make some serious noise in open level.

Anonymous said...

Wasn't really a comparison of 4.5 and open - just saying you rarely see a fat 4.5 doubles stud. I might list Trance as the exception - he is truly fat.

Anonymous said...

So Red Benzon is not fat? He plays 4.5 doubles. When I play MZ's I see quite a bit of fat guys playing dubs so not for sure which tournaments you have been attending.

Fat, Stocky, and Chunky its all the same. Nothing wrong with it, but you do not see that many fat guys playing singles except for the lower lvl's like 4.0 and down. I have played dubs in 4.5, 5.0, and Open and there is a BIG difference in Open than the other two. I am not remotely scared to be at the net in 4.5 that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

red is not fat...he just has a fat head

Anonymous said...

Red is quite round. Guess he likes food too much.

Anonymous said...

It's funny how 4.0's suck until they get bumped up and still win at 4.5. Then everyone claims that just means they were playing out of level. The point is top 4.0's can hang with 4.5's. Of course the transition is easier in doubles. Singles takes longer to adjust to 4.5.

Anonymous said...

I disagree, singles is much easier to adjust from 4.0 to 4.5. Singles is not real tennis, its just endurance and ground strokes. Doubles has way many more facets and requires much more skill.

The better 4.5 players are successful at both. The weaker 4.5 players can only play singles. They may even win at singles but that doesn't make them a good tennis player. The better athletes are always on the doubles court (although they may be in worse shape).

Anonymous said...

If triples means me and 2 girls, then sign me up, otherwise it is singles all the way.

Anonymous said...

Doubles are you crazy? You must be a bad singles player to embrace doubles. Doubles is beyond boring. Besides if doubles was SO popular then why don't they show it on TV instead of singles?

That pretty much answers the question.

Anonymous said...

Isn't this Red guy the same guy that ripped Tennis Express off?

Anonymous said...

Do tell. How did he rip off the rip offs?

Anonymous said...

How did he rip them off?

Anonymous said...

Why are you so obsesses with Red? It seems that every thread you start posting about Red ripping someone off in hopes of getting people to start bagging on Red.

Anonymous said...

Well just ask Brad Blume, Sean, Armen, or Jack next time you are tennis express about Red. I know this Red will never ever go back to tennis express. Brad will not let him inside the store.

Anonymous said...

bagging??????

Anonymous said...

Who is Ben?

Anonymous said...

How is doubles boring? It is a much faster game and requires more skill. It doesn't matter what gets exposure on t.v. Most recreational players (something like 80%) play doubles.

I will agree that open level singles is fun to watch but anything below that is boring. Most 4.0 and 4.5 singles players have 1 stroke (typically a forehand) and they can't volley and they slice their backhand. That's not good tennis.

Anonymous said...

Not everyone slices their backhand or are horrible volleir's. The difference from 4.0 to 4.5 is that 4.5 hit with alot of pace and kind of hard but 4.0 has more consistency, thats one of the reason why a 4.0 that get bumped up wins some matches at 4.5.

Anonymous said...

doubles is much skillful then singles? are you dumb? then why do they only show singles on tv? nadal and federer are worst players then the bryan bros? doubles players play doubles because they can't win in singles.

Anonymous said...

I only play singles but I will agree that at the 4.5 level top doubles players possess greater "skills" than top singles players. You can dominate singles with endurance and consistency from the baseline. You cannot dominate doubles with those qualities. The reason why I stick to singles, and do quite OK, is that I cannot hang in doubles because of an average serve and below average net skills. Those weaknesses don't hurt me one bit in singles. What they show on TV is irrelevant for discussion about 4.0 and 4.5 tennis. None of us is Federer or Nadal and if you think of your game in that way, you are delusional. Video tape one of your matches and you will see how slow and boring our games really are.

Anonymous said...

In doubles, endurance doesn't help you as much as in singles. However, that doesn't mean skill cannot win you a singles a match. The difference between doubles and singles is not skill but endurance.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is better at doubles.

Anonymous said...

Kern, how come you not playing in Tyler? It's not too far from you my man.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully someone from Houston will win Tyler. I think Schmucker is in better shape for the summer heat then Green and Moser. It will be hard for Tim to come thru because of the heat and having to play two matches on Friday since he is not seeded.

I think if Schmucker can beat Hawkins then he will move onto the finals. Moser will have a hard time on Sat because of the heat. I think that is the only thing Moser needs to worry about is the heat.

I also wonder how many players that play Abshire will cramp up? Abshire loves to torment players with his long rallies. Funny about Abshire though when he loses to another player Abshire always accuses them of sandbagging. Quite funny.

Jason Kern said...

I have a commitment on Saturday so I can't make it. I don't even get to play Ft. Worth since I'll be out of town so I can only read and write about it. Pretty pitiful really.
Doubles and singles both take skill just different kinds. I enjoy doubles much more because it is quicker and more exciting to me since I'm not a grinder and maybe cause I'm fat.
It's not on TV because Federer and Nadal don't play and that's because they don't get the big check.
For the record the 4 singles semifinalists in Waco all played in the doubles final as well.

Anonymous said...

I thought Tim Green said he was done with this blog. I'm glad he kept his word.

Anonymous said...

Kern, even you beat Hawkins, so I am pretty sure Schmucker will be able to handle him.

Anonymous said...

schmucker hasn't made the semi's or finals in a long time. who cares that he is fit. skills come before fitness

Anonymous said...

Q Jason Kern d. (3) Ben Hawkins 7-6; 4-6; 7-6

Looks like a coin toss to me. How much better is Schmucker than Kern?

Anonymous said...

Schmucker won Tyler two years ago and Ft Worth as well so I wouldn't put it pass him.

I heard he has been practicing with a lot of Open players lately so who knows what might happen in Tyler.

I am hoping to attend my first MZ of the season in San Antonio in July. Sucks coming back from an injury.

Anonymous said...

Kern played Schmucker last year and defeated Schmucker easily. That's why Kern is picking Ben.

Anonymous said...

Kern is a whole bunch better than Schmucker.

Anonymous said...

It's all about matchups between players. So honestly it doesn't matter who beat who.......it is style matchups nothing more.

Anonymous said...

Kern in 2008 was 51-15. This includes league and tournament play. If should also be noted that Kern played in sectionals and nationals in league. Plus he was on a national championship team.
How can you compare him right now to Schmucker? Kern is one of the better 4.5 players.

Anonymous said...

Agreed. Now can we move on to another topic please.

Anonymous said...

Dude give it a rest regarding Kern. I noticed Kern such an awesome player that he won singles in Waco as well.

Not!

Anonymous said...

Kern has never won a 4.5 MZ so how is he a champion????? Who cares about USTA league its all about the team that is stacked with ringers.

Anonymous said...

Enuff already, OK. lets pick another topic to talk about.

Jason Kern said...

Amen. I only picked Hawkins because I guessed Schmucker hadn't been playing much. If he has been I wouldn't be surprised if he won. Pretty much a toss up in my opinion. Let's get back to how much Green sucks or how fat Red is!

Anti Tennis Express said...

If you want to give your money to that JERK Brad Blume over at Tennis Express, that is your decision. However, I knew that dick when his store was just a shell at Westchase Ranch apartments. He was a COMPLETE JERK then and is now. There is no way in hell I would shop at that store. I do go there to check out stuff,,,, but then buy on line.

CoreDawg said...

Man Jason, you are the topic of both the Dallas and the Houston blogs. You are so popular!!

Anonymous said...

if you don't like tennis express, then go to academy and buy you an aluminum racquet. if you can't find what you want anywhere else, then tennis express will have it.

do the math....

Anonymous said...

I will say Brad Blume at Tennis Express will not give any of his customers a break. Example if you have your racquets strung there you will never get a break on the tenth frame strung. Hell they charge $15 to string a racquet with your own strings. Thank God I have my own stringing machine. Also if you reside in Houston and you go to Tennis Express website and see an item you want to buy then head into the store the staff there will hassle you about the INTERNET price vs the actual store price. System is so retarded. I just buy online from Tennis Warehouse less hassle.

Anonymous said...

$15 for stringing? Are you kidding me? Most private clubs even charge less.

Anonymous said...

only rich folks will pay $15 to their rackets. true tennis players who break strings all the time, strings their own racquets. or play with luxilon and it will last 3 times longer

Anonymous said...

i've never had any trouble at tennis express and they will always give me the internet price without any trouble. maybe i'm the exception, but they seem to have some good people working there.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker has strung my racquets for 8 to 10 dollars in the past and I have no complaints.

Anonymous said...

I feel the same way: Tennis Warehouse or Midwest Sports Online.

Anonymous said...

$15 dollars is way to much IMO for stringing labor. It's not like strings are cheap these days!!

Anonymous said...

I break a lot of strings during tennis season, so I invested in a stringing machine and it paid for itself the very first year. I’ve been stringing my racquets since my teens, so the loot adds up quickly over the years.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker is way better than Kern in stringing racquets. Schmucker did 1000 racquets in 2008 and only had one complaint (Kallus).

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and Kallus whines when he loses. We get it. You don't like Kallus. Move on already cause it's starting to make you look pathetic.

Anonymous said...

Hey leave poor Kallus alone. He is my friend.

Anonymous said...

alright let's move on....does anyone know how things are progressing in Tyler?

Anonymous said...

I know that no one in Tyler is having to listen to Kallus whine.

Anonymous said...

"alright let's move on....does anyone know how things are progressing in Tyler?"

It's hot way hot. Watch some 4.0 singles not a whole lot worth writing about. Pedro lost his first match to a solid gamer. Most other seeds did what they needed. Look for those singles players to burn up if they are also in doubles.

Anonymous said...

Brandon Myers will win 4.0s without dropping a set. J. Moser will win the 4.5s.

That's all folks!

Anonymous said...

Kern, Hawkins already lost.

Anonymous said...

Well you may be half right: since Moser is out of 4.5.

Anonymous said...

5 of the 8 seeds are out after 1st round in 4.5s Tyler. Only the 3,6 and 7 seeds survived (Moser no-showed)

The 6 seeds faces Adam Cherry next. Green faces Abshire - and Schmicker vs Merritt

Big Shadow said...

Green, Patch and Huffman won. Schmucker is still playing.

CoreDawg said...

McKinney beat Henderson. Griggs beat Cherry. Green may have lost to Abshire, anybody know?

CoreDawg said...

Sorry I messed that up. Griggs lost to Cherry 1 and 2. I see from the previous post that Green won. Green vs. Patch and McKinney v. Cherry in two of the quarters.

How is Kallus doing in consolation?

Anonymous said...

LOL, you are so funny dude, NOT.

Schmucker lost 6 and 2.

Go Green machine, go Tim Green. Now go and bring home the trophy.

Anonymous said...

Green was hurt. He will lose bad in the semis.

Anonymous said...

Schmuucker will never never beat a good player. He is an average 4.5 tournament player.

I am banning all Schmucker talk on this blog. I don't need to know how many tournaments Schmucker won 2.5 years ago. He can no longer be consider a contender.

Anonymous said...

Everyone is a contender. Remember Rivera winning Waco?

dinker said...

I pick Cherry to win the finals in 4.5!

Banning Schmucker - isn't this HIS blog?

Cherry is playing damn good tennis right now.

This is Schmucker Blog but he wants to stay anonymous. He does not want anybody to know he runs the blog.

Cherry beat Green in 4.5 finals in straight sets. Good showing Tim.

Anonymous said...

Too bad Cherry is way out in Abilene or that guy would have alot more points.

Anonymous said...

Cherry also won the doubles. In singles he was lucky Schmucker lost early.

Jason Kern said...

Congrats to Adam on the double. I'm most impressed by the doubles victory.
Dinker, good tournament but you owe me a lunch and a stringer, so send me the tracking number!

Jason Kern said...

OK, just the stringer.

Anonymous said...

Sorry - Adam would have crushed Schmucker like everyone else.

Anonymous said...

Say what you will about Schmucker, but I think he would of beaten Cherry and besides he has beaten Cherry before.

Also I know Greg and he does not run this blog. In fact I know he does not come onto this site as well. I mean can you blame him all the negative crap everyone writes about other players especially Kallus for some reason as well. Kallus doesn't even play tournaments anymore and everyone still talks crap about him.

People get a life.

Anonymous said...

I know it's not a big tournament, but it is a tournament that is local to Houston.....so, does anyone have any comments on the Juneteenth Classic?

I know the draw is not out yet, but in the Men's 4.5 singles, if they are are on opposite sides of the draw, I predict W. Morgan and J. Bui in the finals.

Interesting that no one signed up for 4.5 doubles, though the 4.5 mixed has a decent showing.

Anonymous said...

Yeah 4.5 draw for Al Edwards is out.
Top half of draw far stronger with Wayne Morgan, James Bui, Trey Dugas, and John Griffin.

Anonymous said...

That's what I call 'top heavy'.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Schmucker and Moser are playing open instead of 4.5 in al edwards. Too bad it would of been interesting having those two playing 4.5 instead.

Anonymous said...

Hey Journeyman, how about starting a new thread for the Juneteenth Classic?

Anonymous said...

Had Moser and Schmucke rplayed then the seeds would of been

1 Moser
2 Morgan
3 Schmucker
4 Morales

Would of even out the field for a better draw.

Anonymous said...

Yeah those are all good players. I think Dugas might actually come out of that half. I think he will beat Morgan. Bui will beat Grifin, unless Griffin really has the serve and volley working...

Anonymous said...

If Griffin has the serve and volley going its absurd and he can beat all of those guys. Otherwise he can look like total crap and barely beat a 4.0. cant keep a ball in the court

Why isn't Kallus playing Juneteenth? I have seen him at this tourney year after year. He is not having health issues is he? I know he was using ankle braces on both feet last time I saw him in early 2008. Maybe the wheels completely fell off.

Anonymous said...

Kallus doesn't play because he sucks.

There are three types of people.

1. People that have learned that Tennis Express Sucks and buy else where.

2. People that think Tennis Express is great, but will soon find out it sucks.

3. Employees of Tennis Express that suck or are just plain idiots, they just don't know.

Seriously, take it from someone who has learned this over and over, buy online from Tennis Warehouse or Holabird Sports, you'll be happy you did knowing you are not supporting that jerk of an owner.

Yeah I agree Brad Blume just rapes customers at Tennis Express. Never gives anyone a break at the store. Buy from tennis warehouse.

schmucker playing open, are u kidding me. he can't even make it to the semis in 4.5 draw.

Anonymous said...

I think its cool Schmucker is playing Open instead of that pussy division 4.5. I get tired of reading about 4.5's all the time on this blog especially when they cut down their own division players.

Welcome to Open Schmucker if you even visit this site. I have been playing Open for 7 years so welcome. At least the Open guys don't talk crap like the pathetic 4.5 guys do on this blog. We do our talking on the court.

4.5 is such a lame ass division. Funny the AWESOME 4.5er's talk crap about 4.0 and below because I guess they think they are the elite. Then what is truly sad the same 4.5er's even put their own guys down talk about SAD. I always read Kallus sucks. I don't even know this guy, but it seems the 4.5er's talk about him all the time.

Well why don't you pussy 4.5er's come up to open then lets see who does the talking.

I am glad Schmucker and Moser are playing Open. At least they have the balls to play in a real division.

Hey big talker, just curious what your NTRP rating is? Or if you could tell me what actually is the NTRP rating of most of the open players? Check on that & get back to me. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Yea, you mean the prima donna division called Open loaded with super champ has-beens & wanna be's & a variety of imposters who are too proud to play levels & actually verify their true rating. You mean that division? LOL

Anonymous said...

I am rated 5.0 and I played Division I College so playing 4.5 is not only beneath me, but because of my NTRP I cannot and would not play 4.5.

Let me make this clear. I have respect for some of the guys in 4.5. The ones that play and keep their mouth shut. I grow tired of the 4.5 idiots on this blog that love to hide behind their computers and write shit about their OWN PEERS. Now is that f**king stupid or what? I would be surprised if half of them attended college and have a degree.

Another thing if you want to reply to my post then man up and stop hiding behind anonymous. Of course I am talking to a lot of GUTLESS wonders out there that have no balls when it comes to bashing their own.

why play open? answer that...half the time you play a 3.5 in the first round anyways.

Anonymous said...

i agree with that. not to mention 7 people in the draws..

Anonymous said...

Why does Adam Cherry play 4.5? He was an All Conference collegiate player in '07.

Anonymous said...

P. Chase is the new LOTS. what a tool, d-bag. you wouldn't even make it in the semis in 4.5, so stop kidding yourself. all you hear is schmucker this and that, well who has he really beaten lately and who has beaten him lately. duhhhh.

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't make to the semis huh. What a complete fool you are. Let me see if I recall Tyler Men's Open was a 64 draw and this weekends Open draw is 64 as well, but the awesome 4.5 draw has crap in it. A draw of 16 so do the math you idiot. More players play Open then the ELITE 4.5 division.

I agree that the 5.0 division is a complete joke. All those guys should either play 4.5 or Open.

I have watched some 4.5er's play in the Gallery Furniture Open and let me tell you what I saw. Monnballing, moonballing, drop shot, moonballing, slice dink shot. Truly pathetic. Most of the 4.5er's should seek out a tennis pro for some lessons how to actually hit the ball HARD.

I applaud any 4.5er to join Open for some real tennis. If you actually want to learn how to play tennis just sign up for Open for some lessons.

Seems like the only good thing 4.5er's love to do is whine all the f**king time. Keep it up you are doing an awesome job.

Chase is a 5.0 level player.

Anonymous said...

Is Patrick Chase even a real person? I cannot find him listed in the rankings as having played a tournament in the last 12 months in either Open or 5.0 and his name does not show up when you look him up on the league page. Only Patrick Chase is a 4.0 player out of California. I think I know who it really is and it's someone who has made up fake names before. Especially since he is one of the names Mr. Chase brings up more than once. Hmmm.......

Anonymous said...

Alright, I'll come out and say it. I think that Patrick Chase is actually Schmucker welcoming himself to Open. If I am wrong and you are real Mr. Chase then I apologize for my stupidity. Cut me some slack though cause I am just a lame 4.5.

Anonymous said...

"Why does Adam Cherry play 4.5? He was an All Conference collegiate player in '07."

Yes, at that D3 tennis hotbed McMurry.
It's not his first 4.5 tournament. Just the first one he has won.

Taken to it's logical conclusion if Open players are so good then why aren't they playing that big tournament going on right now across the pond called Wimbledon, I'm sure you've heard of it. For that matter, why aren't all these good open players playing at least on the challenger tour right now. Let me guess, the chance win here or there isn't worth the expenses right? Hummmm, that sounds pretty much the same as what a 4.5-5.0 player says about playing Open, imagine that. I guess we all can only have legit games if we hit the ball a ton too right? The game isn't all about power. BTW, some of the 4.5-5.0 players have played Open before, but most of them aren't under 25 anymore either with the "dream" of going Pro in their heads. Maybe they came back down to 4.5 etc because they actually like to play in their legitimate division, unlike some people who only care about telling their friends they play in Open, even though they're one & done at virtually every Open tournament. For most of us, it's just not worth all the expense to keep up the ruse. Nobody's buying it anyway. Good Open players don't need to "invite" 4.5 players to play Open. They, unlike you, obviously, don't get a whole lot of satisfaction from beating up on a 4.5 player. Maybe you need more players you can hang with, that's why you want them to play Open. Sure you're a tough guy, moron, calling out levels players to play up. Here's a tip, try concerning yourself with beating the legit Open players, instead of making idiotic challenges to levels players to feed your fragile ego.

Who is the Top Open player in Houston? How close would a match with Top 4.5 be?

Anonymous said...

Hmmm I guess my rantings have fallen on deaf ears. My biggest complaint regarding this blog is:

1) Seems like all the 4.5 players that post on this blog always cut each other down. Individuals in their own division which is pathetic.

2) Posting the same crap over and over. Example Kallus sucks. Kallus is my friend. Just a minor example of the bullshit that is posted.

3) Most 4.5er's put down the lesser levels like 4.0 and below which is why I said 4.5 is for crap. Hell why not since you are so entitled to talk shit about the lesser levels so why can I not talk crap about 4.5?

4) I am from Florida and I have posted on this blog before so go look it up. No I have not played leagues in Houston. Never got into leagues nothing wrong with it just never got into it. However I will be looking to play on the Fall HTA singles leagues.

In Florida tennis is quite huge and most players get along, but when I arrived in Houston this past year a friend directed me to this blog and it swells with negativity. It is easy to bash your own peers and HIDE behind anonymous gutless wonders. If you have anything to say post your real name, but again thats asking to much.

I have never met Kallus, but since I see his name on here all the time why don't you morons give him a break. I have seen Moser play, but never talked to him. Looks like he has a good game.

I will be down at Al Edwards this Friday watching the Open division play. I am picking Hugo to win Open. On the 4.5 side whichever player is the less whiny, complainer may come through the draw.

I don't think anyone on here actually has anything against Kallus except for a particular short, fat guy he accused of cheating in a match 3 or 4 years back. For the rest of us, it's in good fun....I think.

Some of us, myself included, remain anonymous for reasons other than wanting to rag on my peers. I don't want anyone being able to google my name and misinterpret comments, etc. In this day and age, if you are a professional or just about anyone looking for employment, you have to assume that employers, etc. can and will dig around online to try to find out more about you. Therefore I either post anonymously or use vague usernames at all the sites I visit. If my real name is James Smith and I post under the fake name of Jimmy Ahole, how is that any better than just posting anonymously?

Anonymous said...

Found in the same posting by P Chase:

"Kallus is my friend."

"I have never met Kallus, but since I see his name on here all the time why don't you morons give him a break."

Sounds like you're feeding a lot of info (aka bs) just to be heard. Get your lies straight before you post them.

Anonymous said...

hey chase, you must be a loser if you talk all that smack and all you do is drive to tourneys and watch people play. why don't you sign up and play and instead of bashing 4.5 players.

by the way, i have a good feeling that chase is actually schmucker. since he keeps saying "kallus is my friend"

Anonymous said...

Chase's comment was about the fact that half the blog posts from others are either "Kallus sucks" or "Kallus is my friend". He himself said nothing about Kallus. Try to read these posts carefully enough not to make your own stupid post in response. That said, I also think it is Schmucker because of how strongly he commends Schmucker for stepping up and playing Open at the Oh-So-Challenging Juneteenth. Open at local events means nothing other than you had nothing to gain points-wise from playing 4.5s. I guess we will have to see if an actual guy named Pat Chase shows up out at Juneteenth this weekend. I guarantee you he won't cause he does not exist.

Anonymous said...

Is bs stands for "Brian Smith"?

Anonymous said...

Now as for actual tennis talk, does anyone not think that Federer will win Wimbledon and knock Pete off the Major Title throne?

Anonymous said...

There's so much hate and anger in this blog dude. You'll take a chill pill and call me in the morning. Peace to the Earth.

Anonymous said...

Chase said Moser and Schmucker stepping up to Open so how is that Schmucker or for that fact Moser posting as Chase?

I do not think Moser or Schmucker would write BS like this. I mean what would be the purpose?

I agree with Chase on one thing the dumbass that always rags on Kallus is so lame. Give it a rest.

Anonymous said...

The purpose? Self-promotion for a delicate ego. Aren't Schmucker & Moser friends? At least they are fellow 4.5s that seem to get along so I can see one trying to give the other props even while trying to draw attention to himself. Chase does not exist. If he did, he would offer easily verifiable proof rather than just pointing out that he will be around at the Juneteenth tournament this weekend. Of course he will, cause he is Schmucker.

As far as Kallus, why don't we all agree to keep our comments related to guys who are actually playing tournaments since that is supposed to be the focus of this blog. Soon as the guy steps on the tourney court again, we can let it rip.

Anonymous said...

Agreed.

Anonymous said...

You guys are truly idiots. Now you think I am Schmucker and in another day someone else. Earlier some idiot said I knew Kallus of course he could not read ENGLISH. I do not know Kallus, Schmucker, or Moser. However, I have seen Moser play and I think he is a good player. Am I now posting as Moser?

Idiots

I read this blog time to time and yes reading all the negativity is annoying. So lets see I looked over the draw for Al Edwards and noticed Moser and Schmucker playing Open. How do I know them?
Its because I see their names on this blog quite a bit. Mind you not as much as Kallus. So I made a comment nice to see Moser and Schmucker playing Open. Is that something bad that those two guys are playing Open this weekend?

You guys need to liven up and stop getting your panties in a wad. Or perhaps you like it that way.
