Breaking News!....No Sarosh, ticket sales now in jeopardy.
Chris Leach just posted that Sarosh has pulled out with an ankle injury. A real injury or an unwillness to face up to all the pressure the never-ending hype has likely created? I don't know the answer to that but my guess is it is a combination of both. Congrats to Chris for scaring Sarosh by sounding confident and unafraid. Congrats to those in the top half who now only have Trautman, Sanchez, Rodriguez, Leach, etc. to worry about. Sadly, Dennis Hilsmeier's chances did not improve one bit despite this development.

Hey, let me be the first one to say that this is a legit deal. He is seriously hurt and would not have been able to play no matter who he drew (even you Goldberg). I also want to give Sarosh tons of credit because he called in to withdrawl instead of making me sit around Homer Ford waiting to play and he emailed me to let me know in advance as well. The are actions with a lot of class, so say what you will, I, for one, am impressed.
I wonder if the poll results would have turned out differently if this news had hit yesterday.
Plus, dont count out Dennis. He plays more tennis than any of us.
Chris,
Of course you would say that because you are the nicest guy in the state of Texas. I need to clarify that I am being sincere in saying that since 99% of posts on this site are either rude or sarcastic.
Way to go Chris! I knew you would scare him away with that round shape of yours!
You are still the coolest dude in my book. Congrats! Now go on and scare the other ones.
Too bad. I was hoping all of this hating would end soon.
Journey Man,
I still stand by my decision that if Dennis Hilsmeier had a heart attack on the court, it will be a snow ball chance in hell I'll be the one to administer First Aid/CPR.
That's total BS that Sa-roach withdrew. don't believe an ankle would sideline anyone, if they really wanted to win the biggest tourney of the year. this guy knows he is in jeopardy of losing, that's why he played 3.5 and 4.0 for the pass 2 years. just another excuse. and you call this guy "The Great S".
The latest post said that "don't believe an ankle would sideline anyone"
Is this guy out of his freakin mind? Ankle injury is the most critical and common injuries that occur to a lot of tennis players at some point or the other.
On top of it, it also takes the longest time to heal. I guess we all need to be more reasonable in passing comments about others when most of us have experienced these injuries ourselves.
The guy who posted this comment must not be playing real tennis for all you know and just sitting home playing video games!
"The Great S" stands for "The Great Scape".
i know 4 other players who are injured, but are dying to play this weekend. what a puss...
I care. that sucks but it isn't worth it as mentioned an ankle is most common amongst tennis players and the only way for it to heal fully is not to play. Calf is the same way.
Sorry Sarosh I was pulling for ya, no offense Leach but after listening to the bashing I had to see Sarosh do well. Good luck the rest of the way now that you got past a tough first match.
Well i guess that means my ankle injury is a bunch of bull too since i am going to pull out as well.
The Great "S", stands for The Great "Scared". Have you seen Kallus's ankles for the last few years, that guy is playing with an ankle brace on both ankles. Maybe he doesn't win as often, but he's go the love for the sport and the will to compete.
i see the irony in this. Sarosh referred to Sa-Roach. what does a roach do when they are scared...they go in hiding.
why did hunkler bail?
Hunkler is scared too. May be he didn't want to loose in the first round being the second seed.
Hunkler and Sarosh sitting in a tree....
those two guys are hitting partners. they have this master scheme to QUIT, QUIT, QUIT. Hunckler's a 4.5 player anyways.
Sarosh pulls out of one major. Greg pulls out of two major. Greg still ahead 2-1.
Greg must be twice as scare as Sarosh.
hunckler saw about 10 people in the draw who would woop his butt probably
Sarosh,
Classy move in contacting Leach personally. I was a hater (for no real reason), now I'm a fan. Best of luck.
Hunckler is a class act also. You people are insane.
Good luck to everyone!
You guys crack me up. Let me get this straight, if you pull out before a tournament, you're obviously "scared" of your scheduled opponent. Otherwise why should you pull out, right? (Especially scared if the almighty blog gods deem it a tough match for you) If you pull out during a match, (no matter that you might be risking further injury if you kept playing) you're obviously a wuss for not finishing the match & "taking your beating like a man". And if you're injured & decide to play (usually against your better judgment) because you are a real warrior who just likes the comp, but loses to a "lesser" player (once again in the eyes of the blog gods), then you apparently aren't as good as you deem yourself to be. So, you see, you can't win, they've got you covered. Haters will always be haters. Isn't it funny how these haters would likely NOT do well against the players they are hatin on. Am I the only one who gets this, or what?
What a bunch of idiots posting crap because Sarosh pulled out. I saw Sarosh's ankle injury and it occurred two weeks ago. The Dr told him he could not play the Coke and also told him to not put weight on it.
Worry about yourselves in the tournament if you are playing. I still do not understand why so many people on this site bash each other.
Schmucker
First of all guys, I do not owe any of you an explanation as to why i pulled out of the tournament. At least I acknowledged that i was withdrawing prior to my match, so that my opponent did not stand around and wait for me to not show up. Secondly, I am not scared to play anyone, NOR DO I CARE if i lose first round or in the finals. Typically, the only reason i know anything about my opponents is because i actually am amused by this site and periodically read what everyone has to say. Thirdly, yes i do have an injury and a potential medical issue that could keep me off the court for quite some time.
Hunckler
Well, I took my 7-6, 6-0 beating like a man. Ben Hawkins.....if you are trolling this blog just be advised that if you hook me again when I have set point at 6-5, you are going to get a verbal lashing. I was courteous this morning because your mom was sitting outside of the court on a lawn chair. Otherwise, you better improve your eyesight in your next match.....some people get extremely pissed at that stuff...
perfect example of playing up when you shouldn't. Eddie Hill gave a double bagel to an NTRP rated 3.0 this morning. Seriously, there is a 3.0 draw and a 3.5 draw, why couldn't this guy play the right level. He will probably get a bagel in the first round of Consolation as well.
Phi had my number again but he was curteous enough to let me have a set before he spanked me in the 3rd. Good guy, bad draw for me. I wish him well the rest of the way.
Wow,
last three matches, i lost all 3 tie-breakers. it's time for me to take a long long break to let my injuries heal, and definitely lost that mental edge to finish strong. i actually played well, but not my best. this guy i lost to should do really well for the rest of the tourney.
Quackster.....my heart goes out to you.....I will be in the healing process as well.....let me know when thou has healed thyself and we can go out and play !
Brandon
I had the same thing happened to me in my tie-breaker. i saw the ball hit the line, but he called it out. i had to call a line judge after that, because of your situation. things got heated afterwards, but we finished the match with good sportsmanship. the shot was a short inside out forehand with a sharp angle. i don't think his call was intention anymore, because of angle. however, my mental game not he same after that. he was good guy and player and like always, wish him the best of luck in the future.
Well so much for my prediction in 4.5 doubles! Rockey and Brandt got beat in straight sets.
Congrats to those that picked Phi Huynh and Leonardo Solis as they were the only 2 in the poll to remain alive in the main draw after day one.
The bottom half of the 4.5 singles draw is pretty weak. Phi is not the player that he used to be but there's not much there to stop him 'til the semis, unless I've underestimated Schmucker. Schmucker DID beat Phi several years back in league city playoffs in what was considered a huge upset at the time. I'm sticking with my pick of Leo Solis to make the finals.
BREAKING NEWS FROM 4.5 SINGLES
RODRIGUEZ DEMOLISHES TRAUTMANN IN ROUND OF 16 SHOWDOWN 6-0, 6-1.
In what was expected to be a close and hard fought round of 16 match, Alfonso Rodriguez from McAllen showed no mercy in this sweet 16 encounter with John Trautmann of San Antonio. The match pitted arguably the two best player in the 4.5 draw, but the match was anything but competative.
Alfonso, keeping the ball high to Trautmann's backhand, was on fire throughout the match and did not let up until the final point. Perhaps more surprising than the final score was the fact that Trautmann finished out the match. I think Trautmann deserves some credit for not quiting or retiring, and allowing Alfonso to savor the sweet taste of victory as he moves from the sweet 16 to the elite 8.
Shouldn't finishing a match be expected?
finaly met Reader at the tourney. very cool cat and a good fellow and has the game to back it up. referring to previous blogs, Reader would stomp all over Sarosh. those two are not in the same level of tennis.
enough of the sarosh injury bullshit already!i saw his ankle today and the injury is totally legit.and to the guy that "knew the tennis truth" how about you play a 4.5 tournament with your ankle looking like a fucking tennis ball? on another topic, almost lost my doubles match against red and alan torres.no excuses, but poor amit could hardly move after the first set.got a whole lot of respect for their doubles game none the less.hell red has the best fucking overhead ive seen in a while.rich ryu isnt to shabby in singles either, one tough sumbitch.well ive got mr.smith tomorrow, cant say ill win,but at least some of you haters uot there will take a small dose of shut the fuck up.
I bumped into Sarosh at Homer Ford earlier this afternoon and saw his ankle as well as pictures of what it looked like and all I can say is that I haven't seen any ankle swell up as much as his.It was definitely as bigger than a tennis ball.
I doubt if he could even get back on the court for atleast another month or so.
The "Tennis Truth" jack ass needs to take a big dose of "Shut the fuck up"!!!
I almost forgot, Saroach, you have the reputation of a cheat, that is the lowest form of life ... oh wait a second, that would be a cock-roach, wow, what a coincidence!
Dear The Tennis Truth
Get a life.
why did the Sa-Roach not play? simply knew he was out class and had the fear of losing.
All I'm saying here is that if you are injured, it is sufficient to call the tournament ahead of time and not show up. But to say that you are injured, then showup for the tournament with pictures of your injury, is truly insulting to your opponents. Think about it geniuses: The Roach has set it up for himself so that he has nothing to lose: if he loses, then he was injured and EVERYONE has seen the pictures! If he wins, then he is winning injured which is like spitting on your opponents face. Just total disrespect for the opponents. Typical cock-roach behavior.
There must be some kinda backstory behind why "The Tennis Truth" has such contempt for Sarosh. Are you new to the blog "Truth" or were you previously posting under anonymous?
Journeyman,
No contempt whatsoever. The guy is a cheat/liar which you can verify from multiple reliable sources. Just judge the latest for yourself: shows up at the tournament with pictures of his fuckn injury! That way, he is in a no loss situation. Do you need more evidence?
I am new to this site, played college tennis at D2. Think of me as the Rush Limbaugh of this site: the conservative commentator who will always tell the truth regardless of how much he will be hated upon by the tennis liberals out there.
TTT
"The Tennis Truth" is telling the truth. who the heck takes his time on the weekend to a tournament that he did not play and bring pics of his injuries. how lame is that...
Guys, seems like "The Tennis Truth" guy must have got his ass kicked real bad by Sarosh and so this aversion.
We hear you TTT. After having played D2 Tennis and then getting a beating at the hands of a person who played 3.5 and 4.0 must be real hard to forget and move on.
I suggest that you get a life and not waste everyones time on this blog with the same old crap over and over again.
Lets talk about latest results of 4.0 now at Gallery Open.
Typical "off the subject" liberal comment! Dude, what does me getting my ass kicked or not getting my ass kicked by this guy have to do with him showing up at a tournament with pictures of his injury, liaing, cheating, disrespecting his opponents, ...
Please take your pills for your Attention Deficit Disorder and try to keep the topic in mind for a few minutes before you blog.
VALLEY PLAYERS DOMINATE ONCE AGAIN...hey guys, is it me, or is the Rio Grande Valley the best tennis scene in Texas. 2 finalists in San Antonio and 2 finalists in Houston. It's amazing how often Valley players don't get any credit, but all you Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas players have come up short time and again. Why don't you guys come play in the Valley and see if you guys can hang!!
TTT, you earlier posted yourself to be "the conservative commentator who will always tell the truth regardless of how much he will be hated upon by the tennis liberals out there"
Since you always speak the truth, why don't you tell us the real story behind this hatred for Sa-roach. Did he run away with your wife/girl friend or is it just that you had a real bad on court experience with him.
Please come out in the open and say it all as well as who you are Mr. TTT!
If you don't have the balls to do that, then please leave this blog alone for the rest who have better topics to talk about other than The Great S.
Guys, does anyone know the latest results from this afternoon?
all the results are in the computer. 4.5 winner is rodriguez. 5.0 winner is brian smith who beat reader 6164
The USTA site says that the Dibuas Wo(inj) in the 5.0 doubles final. The truth is that the desk gave them a paper slip with the wrong match time (2pm when the match was at 1pm. When they arrived they were too late. I hope they at least got a refund. Without Harriett running the show this tourney fell apart this year. Did the desk think the Dibuas happen to carry blank HTA slips around in their bags incase they run late and wrote Sun at 2pm to cover themselves? The match time was not online. They had to go by the slip given to them. They should not be given a loss.
Dinker
Wow, two Houston players reached the open finals without the loss of a single set.
I completely agree with Tim about the Dibuas. Sounds like they were screwed over. If they were given a slip with the wrong time at Homer Ford on Sat., the people at Lee Leclear should have honored it on Sun. That is the point of being given a slip with the match time. I don't get that at all and it sounds like HTA owes the Dibuas an apology. Anyone know who was behind the desk at Lee Leclear? I am sure it was the same guy who made a mess of things at Fall Fest. Harriet please unretire.
If Sarosh pulled out of the tourney, why does the draw show him losing to LaGarde. Counts as a loss? Maybe a bump down to 4.0 is in order?
Perhaps the whole matter of the wrong playing time being listed on the slip causing the Dibuas to be unfairly defaulted was motivated by racism?
Why didn't the official just call them 5-10 minutes after the match was scheduled to start to see where they were? Seems like the appropriate thing to do for a team that had already won matches in the tournament and demonstrated the intention of continuing to play.
Actually I was by the desk waiting to watch a friend play during the Dibuas argument, they did not have a slip that they could find, the other guys did and it said 1PM. I also looked at the draw on the board during the argument and the draw said 1PM. Just my 2 cents.
It is true that Odion did not have the slip with him at the desk. He does claim he has a slip that says 2pm. Reader had already left the desk and was heading home. Amit has the Dibua's phone numbers. It is not his responsability but should have called the opponent as a friend. The desk should have called to check on the Dibuas. That is why we put in our phone numbers when we sign up.
Dinker
If they did not have a slip and the other team did and it said 1pm, then that pretty much ends any argument and I retract my anti-HTA statement. Even if they were told 2pm, without the actual slip in hand, there is nothing the desk would have been obligated to do.
P.S. The draw on the board is at a different site. That was to be the first match they played at that site. On-line has no time. I would have went by the slip.
Dinker
I agree with at least some of what "the tennis truth" had to say but I disagree with calling either Leach or Schmucker ass-kissers. Leach is just a super nice guy and was trying to be respectful to an opponent he has never met. I was hitting with Greg a couple weeks ago when Sarosh text messaged him about turning his ankle and sent him a picture, so Greg was just sharing that info. Was it so bad 2 weeks later that he could not at least give his first match a try? Who knows, but I would hope it was not just because he did not think he could win the whole tournament. I have already played my fair share of tourneys this year with either a bad knee or bad ankle. I love playing so I suck it up and play knowing my odds of doing well (or even surviving the first round, it would seem) are not very good. Still beats sitting on my ass and getting fat. Anyway, I think Alfonso Rodgriguez would have ended up winning the tournament even if Sarosh had played. The guy is on fire this year.
This is/was a situation between the tournament desk and the players, not amongst the players themselves. As a matter of fact, I did not have Dibua's phone number on me like I told him at the time, otherwise I would have called him. In fact, before they got to the desk at about 1:15, I agreed with Harriet and Cheryl that it was not like them to not show up and that they deserved a call. They said they had their number on file with the league records and would be calling them. Furthermore, we called Homer Ford to see if they showed up there and they didnt. To make it more complicated, there was another situation similar to ours that was happening at the same time in another division so to respect the officials, we agreed to not bother them until they came up with a plan. Then the dibuas showed up and things transpired as they did. Regardless, it was an unfortunate end to an otherwise exciting tournament for all of us. I hope to see you guys sometime soon.

Lots of drama over the weekend at Homer Ford Tennis Center. Appears a falling out between Kallus and Schmucker as well. Before Schmucker player Zheng , JD Miles approached Schmucker and told him Kallus was mad because his strings were too tight and that Kallus between change overs in doubles was jumping up and down on his racquets, but what was really funny when I was standing around Leach, Goldberg, Morton when Schmucker came off the court and Goldberg was joking around with Schmucker about the strings.
Schmucker was pissed off I think he finally realized how pycho Kallus is. Especially since Kallus said, "I think he strung my racquet really tight since we were in the same half". I know Schmucker defends Kallus a lot, but after this I don't think they will be hitting anymore.
* Note I think Kallus is the biggest whiner and complainer that plays tennis. Kallus you should invest in a good shrink.
Chris Leach first time I met you and I must say you are a class act on and off the court. Really nice guy. Too bad most of the other players are not like you. Looking forward in seeing you again at Tyler.
Reader a pleasure in meeting you as well. Nice to put a face to your awesome postings on this blog.
Amit,
I guess their was some confusion about you having Odion's number. Odion is the one who said you have it. You are right that it was the desk that was wrong in not at least calling.
None the less...great tourney to all four of the doubles finalists.
Dinker
I definitely bitched about the strings on my racquets being really tight. No way I can deny that. The part about me being in Greg's half was 100% a joke. He has been stringing my racquets for the last 7 years and we have played each other many times in tournaments, often sooner than the quarters, which is where we would have played each other here. I never thought I would make it past Phi in the 1st round so I definitely don't think Greg was worried about me nor should he have been since he wins 99.9% of the time that we hit. I publicly apologize to Greg if anything I said was taken as an attack on him. He knows full well how "pyscho" I can get. I wish I could deny that tag but unfortunately when it comes to tennis, it is a fair statement more often than not.
Kallus,
Go and have a tall glass of margarita on me. It's just a game after all. I play this game to make friends and to hit with friends from time to time between tourneys.
You are OK even though tennis gets the best of you sometimes!
Congrats to "lord of the strings" for making it to the finals of 5.0, the guy you lost to must have been an unbelievably strong player to beat both you and Garg. Some of you guys seem to be in rather foul moods. "Tennis Truth", I like your candor but I agree that you probably have mischaracterized Leach and Schmucker, they are not ass-kissers. As far as Kallus & Schmucker, are we back in junior high or something? If there is an issue there, let them work it out. I even have to agree that it is a bit tasteless for someone to post about it anonymously in the hopes of sparking/fueling drama for the sake of our entertainment. I feel like a dad now, having to tell you kids to grow up and act more mature. Of course, I have no intention to do so myself.
Can someone explain the movement of Sarosh in the draw? Wasn't he scheduled to play Leach in the first round?
Just noticed that. That is very strange. Does anyone have a print out of the draw from before Friday because it definitely seems like something fishy went on there.
Someone needs to call HTA and tell them to correct it, that's all. Mistakes like these happen all the time. I had to call and make a correction to a score reported incorrectly!
Kallus & Schmucker,
I have no interest in being a part of any lovers' spat so I will remain anonymous. I was one of the (un)fortunate bystanders that DK had check out his racquet and I will agree that the strings were pretty damn tight, way too tight for me to play with, that's for sure. That said, he said himself that he usually likes them really tight so I don't know how they compared to the way he normally gets them done. In any case, kiss & make up already, I have not been this saddened by a breakup since the Captain and Teneal called it quits back in the 70s.
We need another tournament to talk about and fast. If the best we can come up with for discussion is a juvenile disagreement between 2 40 year old men, it is indeed sad times on the ole' tennis blog.
Kallus already pussyed up and apologized. Let's talk about something else. Do you guys think Alfonso Rogriguez will play enough to take the #1 spot in 4.5 this year? Looks like he owns Trautman after the devastation over the weekend.
Alfonso will pass Trautmann this year and finish the year no.1 in 4.5's. He intends on playing Corpus, SA Major Zone in July, Sectionals, and possibly Waco and Fort Worth. It will take a couple more tournaments to pass Trautmann, but once he does he will stay in 1st.
I know because he is my hitting partner, although we live in seperate cities.
Journey Man,
Could you please clear up this bit of confusion! The great “S” was supposed to have played C. Leach in the 1st Rd. of Men’s 4.5 Singles. He called the TD & Leach to withdraw from the tournament prior to start. However, when you look up the draw, there he is playing some other guy, T. Lagarde and losing 6-1, 6-0. Did the HTA change the draw for the Great “S” so he wouldn’t have to play C. Leach? And if they did that, that is just not fair to the rest of the players in the draw.
Green, do us all a favor and be quiet. You pass fiction like it was fact. You said Amit had the Dibua's number, but we find out from Amit he didn't. You state that Odion had a slip showing 2pm, but we find out from another person that he didn't have it on him. Green the tennis chic that likes to talk with no knowledge.
In regards to the comments about Kallus, I probably don't know him as well as some of you but I have played against the guy twice and he seemed like a nice guy. Yeah, he was a bit weird at times, but in a funny way, not like he was being an ass or anything, just very self-critical. He also probably was the most generous line caller I have ever played against. I beat him both times and each match might have turned out differently if he had made some calls he missed. That's probably his biggest problem cause at this level you have to make your calls and you can't expect your opponent to give you points after the fact.
I agree Kallus is a nice guy and will talk your ear off during a match, but at times he becomes quite annoying though. He usually blames his losses on excuses like wind, courts, netheight, lights, and now it looks like strings. I have played him before in tournaments and he never said I was the reason why he lost. In fact Kallus has a winning record over me as well, but when I have won it's always some other BS that caused Kallus to lose.
Maybe Kallus is the Serena Williams of 4.5.
Yeah, he is a chatty guy. I don't mind though, cause I play tennis now a days more for fun and socializing than for the sake of competition. I actual have gotten some pretty good investment advice each of the 2 times I played him so I am glad he was a talker and not all focused on just the tennis. He didn't really make any excuses for losing when I played him and he actually complimented my serve and backhand (as have a lot of you, if I can toot my own anonymous horn). Maybe the two of you have personal issues or perhaps I was just that good.
Oh yea! Kallus complimented my serve, backhand AND forehand.
I don't really play tournaments all that oftern anymore but I hit with Kallus semi-regularly and with me he is usually just as quick to not take credit when he beats me as place blame when he loses. He may let every little thing bother him: wind, sun, net, etc. but he also seems to probably give too much credit to those things working in his favor when he is playing well. He hits such a flat ball with so little margin for error that if he lets any of those things get in his fragile mental game they probably really do have a big impact on how he plays. I have to agree with the other postor who said you & Kallus must have some personal issues between the two of you.
How come Mr. Kallus only wears muscle shirts?
bc he wants to show off his 1 inch pythons
I get the point. I talk alot, complain alot, annoy people, and have no muscles. Can we talk about something else now.
kallus... but you are funny and you take it like a man
wow
whats so great about kallus is that his name kind of subconsciously reminds you of phallus.
this blog has grinded to a halt. i think journeyman needs to step in.
this blog has grinded to a halt. i think journeyman needs to step in.
I met Kallus at the Tyler major zone last year and while I agree he does talk a lot, I think he's a pretty nice guy. I saw him again at the Fort Worth major zone and he was kind enough to answer a points related question I had regarding a default.
Not sure why people hate on him so much. There are players at tournaments who habitually and intentially hook on calls, refuse to talk to their opponents during changeovers, make degrading, sarcastic, and controversial comments to their opponents during matches, and are generally bad sports who take the fun out of the game.
Kallus is not one of those guys. So i'm not sure why so many insults and so much animosity is leveled against him.
NA
Kallus has more positive qualities than negatives. He is a better person than a lot of the guys showing up at these tournaments so I would also add my two cents to cut him some slack for often being overly melodramatic in defeat.
I'm glad to hear Alfonso will continue to beat up on Trautman, gotta love it when those cocky San Antonio guys (Reader, Torres, Trautman) go down. Is there a reason all the players from that town have to act like total idiots ?
austin too. they all have a chip on their shoulder
austin too. they all have a chip on their shoulder
Journey Man,
Please explain to me how that sumbitch, The Great “S” got his draw changed in Men’s 4.5 Singles and played somebody other than Chris Leach (who was going to spank his ass). Could someone come up with and explanation as to why HTA would change the draw for this “LOSER”.
Thank you.
Who ever posted the comment... Green needs to get a dose of "Shut the fuck up".
