Too Soon for Gallery Talk

It's too soon for me to start making any Gallery 2009 comments but that last stream is definitely way too long now. I will just leave you guys with this cause I thought it was pretty cool. We don't exactly get a ton of visits to this blog but over the last week we did have people log in from 11 different states and from 3 countries outside of the US, including India. Not bad for a site that spends all its time bashing the same 2 people and praising 1 guy from San Antonio who spends all his time threatening the rest of us. Where is the world headed?

just a quick question and you guys can get back to bashing each other.

Do players normally play in actually NTRP groups in the Gallery? I'm new and rated 4.5 but didn't want to play that level if the 4.5s are mostly playing 5.0. Thanks

Anonymous said...

Do what that cockroach Saroach did a few years back. Play the 3.5s and win it. Then come back next year and play the 4.0s and win it. Then finally play 4.5s, your play rating. Don't forget to hook players along the way. Happy trails.

Anonymous said...

I play 4.5 singles in all (most) of the tournaments and I've never even seen this Sarosh you speak of....are you sure he isn't in hiding?

Anonymous said...

Let us not waste time talking about a 'loser'.

Anonymous said...

Agreed....let's squash this conversation.

Anonymous said...

Sarosh is the most arrogant tennis player, because he is use to beating up on 4.0 players. his rating finally got bumped up to 4.5 and that forces him to play his level. you won't see his name pop up, cuz his ego is shot, after losing to several 4.5 players in singles, i guess his is only playing doubles now, and loses 1/2 of his matches.

Anonymous said...

the bigger attraction at gallery is the 4.5, cuz the size of the draw and the competition. the 5.0 probably have 16 players and most of them are 4.0 & 4.5 players who have no chance of winning 4.0 or 4.5, but it's much easier for them to say, i lost playing 5.0

Anonymous said...

Half of the players in the 5.0 draw at the Gallery Furniture wouldn't even win the 4.0 draw. Don't waste your time with 5.0 if you are a true 4.5. Playing 5.0 is purely an ego thing.

If you win the Gallery Furniture 4.0 draw, you have to be a 4.5 player. I don't remember the last time the winner of the 4.0 draw didn't get bumped up to 4.5.

In 4.5 being a 4.5 player is sufficient to make it to the finals with a chance of winning in most years. That's the beauty of 4.5.

So being a 4.5 your choice is really between 4.0 and 4.5, but not between 4.5 and 5.0.

Anonymous said...

last year's 4.5 winner, sanchez, beat the top 5.0 winner, reader, a month ago. if you win the gallery 4.5, then you definitely are a good 5.0 player

Anonymous said...

Last post is incorrect.

Last year's 4.5 winner was Alfonso Rodrigue who also went on to win 4.5 masters and was bumped up to 5.0. Unfortunately, he has not be able to pay 5.0 tournaments so far this year. We will have to see if he show's up for Gallery this year.

Anonymous said...

Damn spell check isn't working, but you get what I'm saying.

Anonymous said...

Sanchez only made it to the quarters of last year's Gallery Furniture 4.5.

Anonymous said...

What says more about your level of tennis? Winning the 4.5 or the 5.0 draw at the Coke?

Anonymous said...

Dibua won the Coke a few years back and got bumped up.

Anonymous said...

4.5 and 5.0 are the same except for 2 to 3 guys who can beat everyone in either draw. Start the guessing.

Prob 4 now cause you have to add Sanchez.

Anonymous said...

Moser wont win Gallery in 4.5's he has no backhand anymore. So just hit balls to his backhand and guess what you will win the match.

Anonymous said...

STOP all these conversations about the Gallery Furniture Tournament coming up. Let's talk about how good I am.

Latest numbers on my fan base are up to 5 - 3.0's.

Anonymous said...

how to beat:

- moser- hit to his backhand
- kallus- hit to his backhand
- morton- hit to his backhand
- sarosh- hit to his backhand
- goldberg- hit to his backhand
- schmucker- slice to his backhand

Anonymous said...

Just hit the ball to everybody's backhand and you win the match. Dah.

Anonymous said...

how to beat federer - hit to his backhand

guess what, you still loose

Anonymous said...

How to beat Kallus:

Show up - he will be mentally defeated by your being there

How to beat Schmucker:

Show up - there is a 80% chance he won't

Anonymous said...

Moser no backhand?

Anonymous said...

Moser hasn't had a backhand since the beginning of the year yet he has done quite well.

Moser and some of the other players named may not have the strongest backhand but they certainly have other strengths. With some of them, you need to do something else in addition to just hitting to their backhand. If that is all you do, you may still lose.

As for the Gallery furniture, Moser has a chance, but I don't think he will win it.

Anonymous said...

so if you win 4.5 at the Gallery you risk being bumped?? What if you are benchmark 4.5?

Anonymous said...

It's almost a sure bet if you win Gallery Furniture tourney in 4.5s you will be bumped to 5.0s the following year.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Lord of the Strings, Thomas Reader for having a new girl born on St. Patrick day! Her name is you guessed it is Ireland. Long live LOTS and baby Ireland.

Anonymous said...

Both Kallus and Schmucker have played every tournament they signed up for so far this year. So why do people complain Schmucker is not showing up?

Anonymous said...

A baby for Reader? Oh my lord, someone pray for the future of this planet.

Anonymous said...

i'm not a big fan of Reader, but congrats on the baby!

Anonymous said...

Hey,what's wrong with my backhand?
You can go to it I don't care, I like challenges. Leave Kallus and Schmucker alone. Let's get thru one day of making nice with each other. Congrads to Reader!

Anonymous said...

My movement and speed are my greatest weapons. Make me run and I will win. Hit the ball to me and I will loose.

Anonymous said...

Ok, who are the favorites for the Kingwood non sanctioned tournament this coming weekend?

Anonymous said...

Journey Man is:

Moser - NO
Kallus - No
Schmucker - No
Joe the Plumber - No
Greg Dwyer - Ding, Ding, Ding

Anonymous said...

Who is Dwyer? Never heard of the guy.

Anonymous said...

he's the skinny dude.

Anonymous said...

Why does Federer suck so badly now?

Anonymous said...

How come Kingwood is having a non sanctioned tournament this coming weekend? When did they start doing that?

Anonymous said...

So,,,, who are the odds on favorites for Kingwoody?

Anonymous said...

I'll give you 3:2 that Kallus sucks.

Anonymous said...

Dude, I told you leave Kallus alone. He is my friend.

Anonymous said...

what happen to knutson?
what happen to sarosh?
you think they're going to enter the gallery tourney?

Anonymous said...

Picks for TPI Classic:

Men's 5.0 - J. Patch
Men's 4.5 - R. Ramirez
Men's 4.0 - B. Farmer
Men's 3.5 - R. Merritt

That's all folks!

Anonymous said...

All of the guys entered and thinking about entering 4.5 singles in the Gallery should play their age divisions

Anonymous said...

And why is that?

Anonymous said...

What makes you think a tired Ramirez can win against John "McEnroe" Griffin?

Anonymous said...

Hey Albert Einstein, 4.5 division doesn’t have any age limit.

Anonymous said...

Kingwood 4.5 pick-
I'm predicting little Agassi Jr. (Pat Abshire) to kick some ass and take some names. Welcome back Pat.
4.0 draw goes to James Rice.

Anonymous said...

I pick Foad to win 4.5 at Kingwood.

Anonymous said...

I pick Foad to win 4.5 at TPI.

Anonymous said...

Fuck Foad! It is Reader all the way at TPI and Kingwood. Reader is the greatest.

Anonymous said...

How can they win these tourneys if none of those guys are signed up for either TPI or Kingwood. Dah.

Anonymous said...

Then, I pick Goldfish to win it all at TPI Kingwood!

Anonymous said...

who would win between goldfish and kallus?

Anonymous said...

I don't think 'Goldberg' likes you calling him 'Goldfish' dude.

Anonymous said...

Goldfish rules, his backhand is terrific.

Anonymous said...

Goldberg, Goldfish it is all the same to me. And he is sexy too. Almost as sexy as Reader.

Anonymous said...

You are one sick puppy. I like that.

Anonymous said...

finally sa-roach has crawlin out of the shadows and signed up for gallery. this roach is going to get stomped

Anonymous said...

Hey JM, how about putting up polls for 5.0, 4.5, and even 4.0 singles winners. Good luck Dugas Bros. in the Gallery Tourney. Dugas Bros. rock.

Anonymous said...

Yo homies, tonight is the deadline for Gallery Furniture tourney. So get your asses in gear and sign up 'NOW'. I don't want hear your sorry ass crying come Monday cuz you PC crashed the other night.

Anonymous said...

So,,,,, who won the Coke?

Anonymous said...

50+ players in 4.5 singles....10 players in 5.0 Singles

Anonymous said...

If I get drunk tonight and forget to register for the Gallery Furniture, will there be legions of worms calling HTA to LET ME PLAY????????

Anonymous said...

no glory playing or winning 5.0.

Anonymous said...

Sarosh is playing Chris Leach first round again and guess what Sarosh turned his ankle again. Congrats Chris on the default from Sarosh again.

Anonymous said...

78 players in 4.5 Singles this year....even larger than Open with 75. 5.0 shot up to 12 players with a late night push. Sanchez decided to get more for his money.

Anonymous said...

This Gallery Open is an unbelievable draw in open. have you seen the quality of players??? this is going to be one of the best in many many many years. welcome back tennis to houston.

Anonymous said...

2009 Gallery Furniture Picks,

Men's Open - Evghenii Corduneanu
Men's 5.0 - Odion Dibua
Men's 4.5 - Alejandro Sanchez
Men's 4.0 - Tuyen Nguyen

Anonymous said...

4.5 Winner: Tim Green
4.5 Finalist: Omon Dibua
4.5 Semi-Finalists: Alejandro Sanchez and Wayne Morgan

Anonymous said...

where is the men's 4.5 usually played?? I'm guessing lee le clear or some other dump rather than memorial park

Anonymous said...

it's usually played at the other dump: mc gregor park

Anonymous said...

joke of the day....

Ted Phoummarath signed up for Open.

Anonymous said...

I believe the last 2 years the first 2 days were played at the lovely Homer Ford Park. Right next to U of H. Last year there was a family bbq in the park with a 1000 watt speaker system and a Master of Ceremonies of the mic. Can I get a whaaa whaaa?????

Anonymous said...

Houston's public courts are a joke. It would not surprise me when Houston loses Coke/Gallery to another city because of the public courts here. San Antonio actually was going to lose Sectionals because their courts were very bad. Texas USTA threatened San Antonio to move Sectional to Waco, but San Antonio Parks had all the public courts resurfaced so Sectionals staying in San Antonio.

Anonymous said...

Another joke of the day

This must be one of the weakest 5.0 draws in a long time. Half the guys wouldn't even win the 4.0 draw.

Anonymous said...

played the last two years and they had some radio station by the basketball courts that were really loud. i hate playing at mc ghetto park

Anonymous said...

the only 5.0 person on the draw that could win the 4.5 draw is odion.

Anonymous said...

Houston's public courts are truly a joke. I wouldn't mind playing this tournament somewhere nice like Waco or SA and I'm from here. Now that's real sad.

Anonymous said...

Jason Gound could probably also make it to the semis if handed an easy draw.

Anonymous said...

This year's Gallery tourney has one of the weakest Men's 5.0 draws in a long time and one of the strongest Men's Open draws in a long time.

Anonymous said...

The mens open draw is probably the strongest i have ever seen and i have been in houston for over 30 years.

Anonymous said...

Can someone elaborate on what you all are meaning when you say the "stongest"? As in number or players or talent? If talent, who are some of the notables?

Anonymous said...

What names make you think that the open draw is stronger than in recent years?

Anonymous said...

So are you telling me that A. Valdez will not win Open this year in the Coca-Gallery?

Anonymous said...

I hope for Odion that will get a big ego boost in winning the 5.0 draw.

Anonymous said...

Good players in open draw in no particular order:

Pieters
Whitehead
Collins
Valdez
Boone
Bouffier
Markes
Casariego
Sombito
Garg
Cole
Corduneanu
Mambetov
Persons
Rivas

And these dont even count the sleepers. This is going to be interesting to say the least. Let the show begin.

Anonymous said...

Evgeny won the Gallery last year. He has to be the favorite to win again if his fitness level is up there. The guy is a fighting machine. The only guy who could challenge him didn't sign up (Wootan). It needs to be seen whether some of the younger guys like Schneider from Newcomb have improved. Adrian Valdez is always a factor if the draw works in his factor.

Anonymous said...

true, schneider and others should be on that list. makes for even better tourney.

i dont think valdez has a decent shot this year as in past. if he goes deep, i will be impressed. look for corduneau to be the fav.

Anonymous said...

So, who won the Coke!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Wooten is busy giving the circuit a try

Anonymous said...

I predict a Reader sweep in 3.5

Anonymous said...

To the jokester (March 30, 2009 5:15 PM and March 30, 2009 9:07 PM), please give us professional courtesy about tournament talk. I’m sure I share the same opinion as the rest of the bloggers when I say GET LOST.

Anonymous said...

Look fool, I just want to know who won the tournament. Did that Read guy that everyone keeps talking about win.

Anonymous said...

I don't know which zoo you escaped from but I'll try to explain this as simply as I can. The Houston 'Coke' you are referring to is no longer. Instead it has been replaced by a new sponsor 'Gallery Furniture'. Thomas Reader not 'Read' is not playing in Gallery tourney. The tournament has not even started yet; it starts April 10-13. So nobody has won anything yet bub.

Anonymous said...

Dallas players will sweep the 4.0 singles and doubles.

Anonymous said...

No way dude.

Anonymous said...

What Dallas players? I predict the 3.5 winner will come from Dallas area but 4.0 and 4.5s won't do so well.

http://houston.craigslist.org/spo/1101056828.html said...

Recession sale: anyone need some used tennis racquets?

Anonymous said...

I Read from Dallas? If so he is going to dominate at the Furniture Openers. He is the best.

Anonymous said...

Can someone explain to me WTF happen in the match between Moser vs. Patch at TPI this past weekend. The score was 6-1, 6-0.

Anonymous said...

This was one CRAZY match. I talked with Moser during the game and he told me that he had pulled a muscle on his testical?!?!?!?! WTF? He was hobbling around like a wonded dog,,,,,, of course a wonded dog with a pulled testical muscle. WTF!!!! That was the craziest thing I've ever herd.

Anonymous said...

he must have grabbed the wrong ball from his pocket... :o)

Anonymous said...

Could someone recommend the type of strings I should use for a heavy topspin baseline player. I play line 2 for my HS.

kallus (in his dreams) said...

I would recommend BaboPrinlson Crazy Topspinner 16G. And I should know cause if you ask anyone they will tell you I hit with the heaviest topspin of anyone in town.

Anonymous said...

luxilon alu power rough. the strings are very durable and you get a lot of control. federer uses these. since nadal spins everything, try his strings

Anonymous said...

When is the draw out for the "Coke"?

Any idea on the seeds for singles & doubles?

Anonymous said...

It's not 'Coke' any more. It's now 'Gallery Furniture'. As far as seeds being announced, it won't be long. The draw comes out early part of next week, but you will get your time of play & place in the mail this weekend. Good Luck everyone.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, but it will always be the Coke.

Can't say gallery furniture with a straight face.

Anonymous said...

Me too.

Anonymous said...

Amen. Write it down! The Gallery Furniture Houston Open will always be "The Coke" to us diehards. Would you call Roland Garros the BNP Paribas (or whatever)International Championships of France, just because they changed sponsors? Get it now? Good.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that's right. Damn straight.

Anonymous said...

The seeds have been posted for several of the age group divisions as of 11:45-ish today. I would expect the rest of them to be up by the end of the day, or early tomorrow.

Is it still "Too Soon for Gallery Talk" now?

Anonymous said...

i hate gallery furniture. that guy is rude to his employees when they don't make a sale. it's coke and always coke.

Anonymous said...

Evgeny won the Gallery Men's Open last year. He will repeat once again this year without a doubt.

Anonymous said...

The draws were just posted for Gallery....check them out! Tim Green vs. Moser in the first round.

Anonymous said...

my guess without looking is that the last post is an april fool's joke. if not, it is just poetic karma. Play the right level Tim.

Anonymous said...

Ha. Ha. Yes, the draws aren't posted that was April Fool's, but Tim Green is entered in 4.5 singles...no joke

Anonymous said...

Dah, cut it out you guys. No more April fools day jokes OK.

Anonymous said...

who would win between these 4.5 matchup in coke:

-green vs. moser
-morales vs. lacy
- dibua vs. ahmed
- morton vs. griffin

Anonymous said...

Damn, I wish you haters would make up your mind on Tim Green.

When he plays 5.0, you say he is not good enough to play that level. Then complain when he plays at his rated level. He has not 'tanked' any matches to get his rating, like some other players. The ratings trickle down from Nationals and impact all of us.

From the recent trend, better players are getting 'pushed' down every year. So stop yo complaining, get used to it, grab a racquet and play tennis without yo whining.

Anonymous said...

I think its good Tim has entered 4.5.

Anonymous said...

Tim probably had a chance to win 5.0. He won't win 4.5. Not because he is a 4.5 but because there are some other really strong players that don't belong in 4.5 either. It is to be expected at the Coke since it has always been that way. Like usual, there will probably be some out of state college player coming down to give 4.5 a shot and then claim he did not know any better and should have played open instead.

Anonymous said...

Trust me, us long time veterans of battles past (& we know who we are) are just waiting to see which sandbagger shows up at the COKE & wreaks havoc on all us mortals, all with the excuse that he didn't think he would do well because he hasn't been playing much lately etc (interpretation: He was scared of losing 1st round in open where he belonged but he's still good enough to get up outta bed one day and drill a top 4.5-5.0 player without having touched a racquet in weeks). Who will it be this year? That is the question. Good luck at the COKE everyone. (& remember, if you need to cheat someone to beat someone you probably don't belong in that division either)

Anonymous said...

kudos to the last post"er"

Anonymous said...

Are people going to answer the match up questions posted posted at 3:29? I'm curious about the responses

Anonymous said...

-green vs. moser
-morales vs. lacy
- dibua vs. ahmed
- morton vs. griffin

Green. Lacy. Dibua (maybe). Morton.

Anonymous said...

alright, so now we're down to:

Green v Lacy
Dibua v Morton

give me the finalists and winner of our random 8 player challenge

Anonymous said...

Dibua is the winner of this group. His name is not in this mix, but if it happened I would pick Alejandro Sanchez over Tim Green, probably in straight sets.
