Restart...

Due to intense pressure and the threats of legal action, the previous posting and resulting message stream was removed. I will likely do one of two things. 1) Require registration for posting, i.e. no more anonymous posting, or 2) just delete the blog entirely and get on with my life and let you guys get on with yours. I get very little out of doing this. I provide this forum cause I figured those of you that play tournaments might actually make it informative or entertaining. So far I have been dead wrong. Up to you if you want it to keep going.

Back on tourney news, I predict Alejandro Sanchez wins 4.5 singles.

See, now I feel like I missed something. Can someone post a summary of the fun?

Don't worry about legal action, you got Freeman on your side ;)

I found the cached page. Can't delete that!

Didn't mean to kill my comment.

I agree. Make people register and don't allow anonymous postings.

I think the blog is a good forum for tournament players to discuss tennis and share interesting information, not for trashing other players (or their wife).

Is it o.k to say amen now?

Christopher Towle said...

Don't listen to that hoowey. Someone who puts up stuff like that an uses the word 'codes' clearly is confused.

Not sure what the fuss is about as an IP address is not a legal unique identifier to an individual.

It probably is a best practice to make people register, but your participation will drop b/c people tend to be more sheepish when their name is by something.

Anonymous said...

Amen.

Here's a code for ya..... Talk about someones wife or family and get your chicken shit ass kicked! If you have a problem with someone leave their family out of it and say it to their face. Anyway good luck to everyone playing today except the ppl I play.

Why not just delete individual comments when they go over the line ? It can be done, even if it is a pain.

The Journeyman said...

I have now enable the requirement for registration. Let's see if this makes any difference.

It is my preference to keep things anonymous but if my trying to stop someone from unfairly attacking a fellow player in a very inappropriate manner leads to others threatening action against me, then I guess unfortunately something has to change.

If I think I can find the time to police individual posts and delete the truly offensive, I may do that. I don't anticipate finding the time.

Dugas said...

i'm not sure what happened since yesterday, but i can say that i believe the quality of conversation on this blog will definitely get better, albeit the quantity of conversation may fall a bit.

i for one rarely posted anything on this blog, due to all the negativity, and never found any of the player bashing funny at all (no matter what player was getting bashed).

good luck to everyone playing in the heat in San Antonio this weekend.

The Journeyman said...

Not a good sign. 187 visits yesterday and 88 today (saturday) and 1 comment yesterday and 0 today. That is why I was willing to keep this blog & everyone's comments anonymous. If no one signs up with an ID (you don't even have to use your real name) this thing is dead. That or we go back to allowing anonymous posts. In which case this threatening to sue me cause you don't like the fact that I tried to call you out for slandering another player's loved ones has to stop. All I tried to do was point out to whoever was doing the inappropriate posting that it is possible to tell when it is the same person posting despicable comments again and again and trying to fool everyone into thinking it is a conversation between multiple people. That was pretty weak and very transparent.

CoreDawg said...

Don't worry Journeyman. The number of visitors will drop in the beginning but it will rise slowly. Most of the people who were looking for serious discussion about tournaments or leagues have left but they will gradually come back when they see the change.

Unknown said...

Journeyman,

The reason why postings have gone down is that is not easy to hide behind your comments when you are not anonymous.

Whoever posted those comments about Tim and his wife were cowardly. They wouldn't have the balls to post such comments if they could be identified.

I hadn't been on the blog in a while, but someone told me about the postings and I was shocked. The blog rarely talks about tennis but disintegrates into personal attacks much of the time.

Journeyman, I know who you are. You have better things to do than moderate this blog if you allow people to post anonymously. If I were you I would just shut it down.

It was a nice idea though.

BTW, Sanchez will not win Alamo.

Hey Mod,

Since you have the IP addy and you know who it is, don't you have the ability to ban that IP or all IP's on that subnet?

People are idiots when they are online and hiding behind anonymity.

I am sure you have more to do than police a blog for content and this might be a simple way to get rid of the worst offenders.

That is not to say they can't switch providers or go to fourbucks for free WI-FI and you will go through the same cycle all over.

I was very disgusted by the posts the other day as was my wife. I appreciate the fact that you now must register. More relavant individuals with real tennis topics will soon begin to use this blog, I believe.

To the person who posted the sick messages, I am sure you have or can get my phone number. I would like you to call and say sorry, or at least call and not be a coward.

To the moderator, so that I know who I am thanking, did I first play you at Lost Forest in 3.5? If you would rather not say, I understand.

dinker said...

Herb, it was good to see you playing so well this weekend in San Antonio.

Congrats to Guillermo for winning the 4.5 singles.

dinker said...

Kern...I must now dump you for Herb. He carried me better in the doubles.

By the way, do you know if Freeman is going to let me play this week? I did well in doubles in San Antonio. Tell him I said please.

Freeman said...

Tim,

After Herb's tremendous performance this weekend he will definitely be in the lineup. If he gives me the green light then you can play as well.

Nice tournament for Tim, Herb, Odion, Omon, Aaron Greene and Bruce Inting. Well done guys!!!

Unknown said...

Man,I haven't blogged in in a while and obviously misses something but who cares? At least you know who you're talking to and probably won't get any more personal attacks(maybe the occasional one from you journey man)from anymore spine less assholes.

Unknown said...

Jason,

I give you permission to let Tim play with me. HAHA!

Seriously Tim and I had a great doubles tournament. Tim played one of the best matches I have seen him play against Arringdale/Miller and that is saying a lot. He served fantastic.

It was nice to do well in singles especially since my results have been pretty bad the last two years.

Thomas, what you missed were some horrible, personal attacks against a certain player on this forum and his wife. This player and his wife are both great people and the attacks were unwarranted.

Hey Herb, I hear you man. As you know,I've been on the receiving end of a lot of these insults from anonymous assholes.I rarely agree with journeyman(he's started plenty of shit)but registering is a great idea. Try googling MY name and see what comes up.thanks to journeyman, anyone can read personal shit about me and I could do nothing about it. So I've put up with all of the drug comments and the white trash comments and nobody seemed to care. Oh well, let's see what happens now.by the way,get ready for sectionals, cause I'll be there boys!

I got the chance to play Tim Green on Saturday at the Alamo MZ. He was a gentleman, played the lines fairly, and he's an excellent player. I think he tired a bit and lost some pop on his serve, otherwise I really had no chance to break him. Also got the chance to meet Odion or Omon briefly and we shared horror stories about Chad Case. It was a pleasure getting to meet some of the Houston guys. Please continue the blog, it's the only tournament blog that I know of and I read it regularly.

PS Congrats to Guillermo

Dugas said...

Lake Conroe tournament deadline is today.

I know that the Fort Worth MZ is also scheduled for that same weekend, and most players will be heading there, but in case there are any players not willing to drive that far to play...Conroe is a good alternative.

Congratulations to all of the winners at the SA MZ this past weekend.

Unknown said...

Thomas,

Yeah I have seen the stuff written about you. But we have played each other a few times, singles and doubles, and I think you are cool.

If this blog stayed focused on tennis it would be great. Talking about past matches, upcoming ones, predictions etc., may be interesting. Nobody wants to read childish, personal attacks, but mild trash talking about TENNIS could be fun.

Greg_Schmucker said...

Tim and Herb congrates on the doubles win and also Herb congrates on making it to the semi-finals as well. I haven't posted on this site in quite some time because it seemed everything that was being posted was just negative attacks. Also for some reason Kallus was attacked on here over and over for no reason as well. Hell Daniel hardly plays tennis anymore, but for some reason I am assuming one individual was attacking him.

I always thought this blog should make people register before they can post a comment because hopefully the negativity will cease to exist unless of course if I am talking about Herb's scream when he hits a forehand.
=)

I would also like to say congrates to Andrew Merrit making it to the Finals. We had a long match and Merrit came thru for the win. You deserved it.

Thomas how come you are not playing anymore? Patch told me you were hurt so I thought I would check with you.

PS
Tim can you teach me to volley?

Scott Sevin said...

Congrats to Tim and Herb for winning the 4.5 dubs. Can you tell us why wasn't the final match played?

Also, kudos to Herb for the court time logged on Saturday! 7+ hours?!?!?! and 3 wins with it.

I was injured for a while with my lower back.but played a league match two weeks ago and lost to max dunaev 6-3 6-7 13-11 in the superbreaker!I even had a match point up 10-9! Not bad for an old dude! How are you and your girl doing Greg? Don't forget a serious chow down at that restaurant by Mcfarlin!

dinker said...

Greg,

I will teach you to volley if you remind me how to hit a forehand.

A real tennis update. 43rd Annual (It says 43nd online:)) Lake Conroe Open has a deadline of Friday July 17.

Dugas said...

thanks for the update. they must have bumped up the date to the 17th today. that's good because there's not that many people signed up.

Greg_Schmucker said...

She is doing good. We actually got married in April so things are going good. Yeah we ate there on Saturday after my awesome second set choke job playing Merrit. I was up 7-6 5-2 and blew the second set serving for the match twice so I deserved to lose that one. Kudos to Merrit for staying in the second set mentally and physically. Merrit has the Nadal mentally during the match so like I said he deserved it.

Figured Merrit and I would perhaps play doubles in Sectionals to take out Herb and Tim.
=)

Of course by then I will have an awesome volley thanks to Tim.

Unknown said...

Scott,

We had a good, tough match, I was lucky to win in straights. It was good to meet you.

Yeah spent a lot of time on the court Saturday, it was HOT. The 2 singles matches were tough, however thankfully the doubles was relatively quick.

The Dibuas went home early, thus no finals. Would have been fun. Maybe we will play sometime. But it will have to be for fun, not giving up my trophy. It is the first MZ I have won since the Coke 2007!

I hope to see all of you guys in sectionals in sept! Congrats Herb, sounds like you're playing some good tennis.and congrats goes out to you and your new wife,Schmucker.

Unknown said...

Hey Dekruyff, what the hell are you doing playing 4.5s?I've played you 3 times and got nothin but respect for your game.So put the rumor to rest, can you really play left handed at the 4.5 level?Cause that's some serious shit.

Unknown said...

By the way, tough match with my old doubles partner Marco in the Mercedes.Too bad you cramped or that would have been a close match.I hope to play you some day as you are a class act on and off the court.Play 5.0 sectionals and let's do this for old time sake.

I'm sure going to miss Tim Green, Juan Dekruyff, and the Dibua bros. at 4.5 next year......NOT! It looks like all 4 got the mid-year bump. From the looks of it, Tim and the Dibua bros' league team will make it to Sectionals.....so I hope you kick some tail while you're there.

Juan DeKruyff said...

I didn't know which Thomas that was until now. I am a 4.5 lefty, but just an average 4.5, nothing special. The offer for Sectionals is tempting, but I'm going to ride out my last few months in the 4.5 trying to get points for the Master's, then we can resume our battles in the 5.0 next year. I did my best to stay in the 4.5's the last 2 years, but our 4.5 league was pretty catty this summer and I'm ready to leave it behind.

Unknown said...

Hey,what's up Tim?They bump you down, they bump you up. I'm thinking they should eliminate 5.0s ,and make us play open. Hope to see you guys in Dallas for team sectionals.

Jason Kern said...

Wow, an actual intelligent conversation! Hopefully Journeyman will stick to his guns. Congrats Herb on the great showing in SA. Dinker, I would take Herb over me anyday, so I understand. Juan, tough league loss but I was very impressed that you did all that driving to play in the tournament as well as in league. Thanks for taking down Dinker as well, he needs the humbling.

Unknown said...

Jason,

Give me a break! After the whipping you gave me in Waco you must think I suck! I sure felt like I did. That was the worst loss score wise I have ever suffered.

Thanks for the congrats. It was easy to look good playing doubles because Tim played so well.

See you at Sectionals, just hopefully on the opposite half.

Herb

dinker said...

So Herb seems to be the first to register with two names.

Thomas...our chances are looking good in the playoffs to make it to Sectionals but we have three playoff rounds left.

Kern...I lost last night, they may decide it would be a mistake to bump me up after Juan beat me 6-0 in the second set in San Antonio and my loss last night in playoffs. You may be pro soon at the rate that your rating is going. I may need an autograph.

Everyone...see you guys at the Lake Conroe Open.

dinker said...

Juan,

If we play at Sectionals, please play lefty. That will be impressive. It will suck when you have a win over me righty and lefty however.

Unknown said...

Tim. Good luck in the playoffs and hope to see all you boys in Dallas. And juan, playing lefty at the 4.5 level is VERY impressive no matter how you look at it. We've had some serious battles Juan D. Please never play lefty.thanks,I hate playing lefties.

This blog is starting to put me to sleep. You guys sure you wouldn't rather have me just let it die a gentle, painless death?

Dugas said...

Well, I thought for sure you guys would be talking about the Fort Worth MZ by now....

As for Conroe, I was all ready to play a round robin doubles event this weekend and then Omon and Tim signed up. Thanks guys! ;-)

I'm not a singles player, but I thought I would give it a go this weekend, even if I get killed.

The players I can see making the final are Green and Morales. I don't know who Griffin and Dutchover are, so I can't comment on them. Pat Abshire can always throw a wrench in someone's day as well.

Juan DeKruyff said...

Tim, good luck in your league playoffs, your team looks really strong, better from top to bottom than our team and better than the Austin team that's going to Sectionals. But don't think of yourselves as favorites--the minute that happens, you lose, I know from experience. I don't think we'll be going to Dallas, however, we lost last Saturday and chances of a wildcard are getting worse each day. It sucks because our team was a good bunch of guys and I don't really want the season to be over yet, but I'll live vicariously through you guys the next 3 weeks.

Thomas, I think we've got some battles left to play next year, the 5.0 draws are so small we're likely to meet in the 1st round. I don't like playing lefties either, so let's agree to both play righty.

Brian said...

I like this way much better with having to sign in and not hiding bebind anonymous. The 4.5 draw this weekend in Conroe looks pretty good and hope to finally show up and play well this weekend.

Dugas said...

Hey Brian,

Looking forward to playing you this weekend. I think the last time I played you, it was about 8 years ago at Giammalva I think. You won pretty easily if I remember correctly. See you on Saturday.
