Master...Master...All I see or hear is Master...

I think I have that lyric right, but it's probably been a decade since I heard that song. Anyway, that's my lame segway into the year end Master's Cup. Start with 5.0: Here are your 8 qualifiers - John Patch, Henry Manalo, Thomas Reader, Odion Dibua, Jason Gound, John McDonough, Henry Akono, and Phillip Zavala. I will call it a coin toss between Reader and Dibua to take the title. Dibua can physically destroy anyone. Reader is very skilled and crafty and it depends how much he cares whether he wins this event. If he wants to win this title then I can only see Dibua preventing him from getting it. I will pull for Reader cause just maybe it will make him hate me less.

In the 4.5s, your final 8 are: Tim Green, Jochen Moser, Alejandro Sanchez, David Luetke, Scott Sevin, Juan Dekruyff, Ben Hawkins, and Guillermo Martin Del Campo. I will look for the winner to come from either Green or Dekruyff. Both are being moved up to 5.0 at year end so that should mean Tim will want to win this title since I believe it is one he does not already hold. In Juan's case, it should mean that he will play right-handed when it matters instead of toying with his opponents by beating them with his off hand. If Juan shows for all matches he would be my pick to win.

In the 4.0s, I really have only heard of Ruben Vargas from the top eight so I guess I will go with him.

So, who won the Masters?
Did Nadal play?
What about that Raeder dude?

We need a report!

Oh :-(((

So, what's the latest on that Raeder dude. Who is in his side of the draw.

LOTS is cool,,,,, he is my freind.

Forgive for being a nerd, but after some light research,I saw that Reader beaty Dibua last year in the masters tournament 6-3 6-1. My wife and I love the game of tennis. And although sometimes it might get a little heated. We LOVE the spirit of competition!! Keep up the good work Journeyman!.

here are my picks,

5.0 - T. Reader
4.5 - J. Dekruyff
4.0 - D. Naumann

Anonymous said...

I don't know. I saw Reader play Zavala. He almost lost and that was his first match of the day. Then against Manalo,he moved like an Eighty year old man. Is he in good enough shape to beat anybody? Honestly,no offense Reader but you don't move very well on the court, and you were very lucky to pull that match off against Zavala. Take it from someone in the stands Reader,we all know you're good. But in shape? I don't think so.

He said (LOTS) he will be ready for Masters, so I guess we just have to wait and see!

Anonymous said...

Hey it looks like this blog is finally getting its act together. I'm the one from Dallas that was repulsed by the chidish attacks on some of the people mentioned. Hats off journeyman!!

Anonymous said...

Hold on there a minute bub. JR Pogue and Saroach haven't put in their 2 cents yet!

Anonymous said...

Reader was good like 10 years ago. Is he any good now?

Anonymous said...

Leave reader alone he is my friend,,,,,,, he just doesn't know it yet. Love.

Survey said...

Alright folks, it is the annual survey of who's got the best:

1) Forehand =
2) Backhand =
3) Volley =
4) Serve =
5) Overhead =
6) Baseline game =
7) Serve and volley game =
8) Mentally tough =
9) Basket case =
10) MVP player =

Did I leave anything else?

Anonymous said...

Forehand. Reader. Backhand. Tim Green. Volley. Reader or Red Benzon. Overhead. Odion or Omon. Serve. The Dibuas. Baseline Game. David Luedke. Seve and volley game. Reader. Mental toughness. Ben Hawkins headcase. Reader(sorry man don't hunt me down). MVP. Del Campo.

Anonymous said...

Wow, Reader (LOTS) got 4 out of 10.

Anonymous said...

Reader is my boodie bother. Put a little Reader on it and everything goes well,,, when he is in town.

Anonymous said...

seen a lot of players in usta texas, these would be my picks:

1) Forehand = Sarosh Ahmed
2) Backhand = Sarosh Ahmed
3) Volley = Sean Straley
4) Serve = Sunday Jegede
5) Overhead = Sarosh Ahmed
6) Baseline game = Adrain Valdez
7) Serve and volley game = Tim Green
8) Mentally tough = Sarosh Ahmed
9) Basket case = Daniel Kallus
10) MVP player = Sarosh Ahmed

Sarosh got a lot of the spots due to his ITF experience. You got to go with him when the chips are down.

Just My Humble Opinion

Anonymous said...

i agree with comment on Sarosh. if you got ITF experience, that can kick in at any time in the match and your opponent will be toast. Close call there between Valdez and Ahmed for "best baseline game" pick buddy.

Anonymous said...

Why is Kallus still getting votes for basketcase when he hasn't even been playing this year? Shouldn't actually playing tournaments be required for these categories? Morton mentally implodes on the court as much as Kallus and he has been actively playing tournaments so I vote for him. Reader and the Dibuas win all of the other categories.

Whatever said...

Once again Saroach writing about himself. Hey asshole, if you are such a great tennis player, then why didn't you show up for your 1st round match at fall festival last month. There should be a catagory for chicken shit coward player of the year. You know who gets that. None other than the Cockroach 'Saroach'.

Anonymous said...

sarosh would have lost his first rd at fall fest, that's why he didn't show up. he's been bumped up in 4.5 for the last two years and what has he done? NOTHING!!!

Anonymous said...

Saroach don't you dare compare yourself with the Animal 'Adrian Valdez'. You are nothing but a garbage compare to him. He wouldn't even give a second of his time to a loser like yourself. Just go ahead and sign up for 3.5s and reminiscent about the past gone by.

Biggest Headcase: Arya Majed

Anonymous said...

Say it isn't so...

Anonymous said...

Who do you think propagates all the negativity on this blog? Its the headcase Arya Majed, no one else. All this waste of blog space about Sarosh and others is him. He reads this thing all the time. He's a headcase on and off the court.

Reader said...

Biggest head case is READER,READER, and finally READER!

Arya Fan Club Member said...

Leave poor Arya alone. At least he shows up for his matches, win or lose. He is not a coward like that cockroach, Saroach. BTW Saroach, you keep saying you are such a great tennis player, but you have nothing to show for it for the past 2 years. What a joke you are.

Anonymous said...

Dibuas aren't playing Masters Tournament so good luck to the field.

Anonymous said...

There you go again Arya. Arya Majed is such a winer. He loses all the time and then comes on here and talks about how close he was to winning. And then he starts bashing Sarosh and other people. Does everyone remember his tirade a few months ago where he called everyone on this blog "uneducated losers"?? Shall we try to find his exact quote...hmmm.

The battle between sarosh, arya, and foad have blossomed once again. You can always tell when these schmucks are arguing by the masses of misspelled words and broken english. I wish the guy that commented on the cave man theory would come back and teach these guys an english lesson. Its probably LOTS. Although vulgar at times,he exemplifies excellent grammar and brings a unique and interesting perspective to this blog. Being a school teacher at Deer Park High-school for 16 years,it is both rare and appreciated thank you LOTS whoever you are,for giving my lunch break some flare!

To all of you imbeciles out there, enough already. This is a tennis blog and not an English class, so I don't care if there are some grammatical mistakes or improper use of vernaculars. It just makes you look stupid and petty when you use linguistic mistakes to attack someone's tennis game.

I can't count the number of posts related to fixing or pointing out some irrelevant syntax error.

Just my 2 cents.

Anonymous said...

Why does Sarosh get so much talk on this blog? He hasn't played any tournaments except the Gallery.

Why can't we just accept that he was a 4.0 wonder with NO chance of being a factor in 4.5's.

Anonymous said...

I think your desciption describes Arya, Sarosh, and Foad very well. Lets leave it there.

Anonymous said...

It's going to be a great tennis weather this weekend. Lets enjoy it while it last. Good golf, good tennis, or whatever makes you happy!

Sunday is the deadline for the Masters in Austin. Someone better let the animal 'Adrian Valdez' know about the deadline period. We don't want you to miss the boat this time Mr. Valdez!

Yo man from all those caps,it looks like you have some pent up aggression. Try beating off to National Geographic less, then get back to me. I think you'll be less of a douche bag. But then again I can't be completely sure. By the way I was born and raised in Houston asshole. LOTS

LOTS you're one bad mother fu--er!! Its nice to see someone as good as you give your insight to some of us hackers out here!! I think your talents and sense of humor brings color to a somewhat bland blog at times. Have you guys ever read the Dallas blog?there's no denying that Corey runs it with class, but truth is,it is some BORING S--T!!!! Keep up the commentaries LOTS and Journeyman. I think you two are some of the few intellectuals on this blog!!.

Anonymous said...

Right on man! I might drive up to Austin and see what all this is about!

Anonymous said...

No Tim Green?

Anonymous said...

No Tim Green, but there is Paul Trevino signed up in both 4.0 and 4.5 singles. Pauli you get and 'A' for effort. Nice job, you are the man!

Anonymous said...

Hey Journeyman, I could have got into the masters by signing up for the 5.0s. They only have 7 players signed up. Darn, missed it again.

Anonymous said...

Wow, looks like number 17 Trey McKinney made it.

Anonymous said...

Only 5 teams signed up for doubles.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about a"l those jerks LOTS!! We're all pulling for you here in San Antonio!!!

Anonymous said...

Is the last 1 in McKinney or Morton?

Foad said...

Good luck to everyone next month who qualified for the players masters. It is a fun tournament and I encourage everybody to try to qualify for it. I’ve been fortunate enough to go to Austin for the past couple of years, but I didn’t qualify this year. No worry however as there is always next year to look forward to. I want to wish my good friend Thomas Reader best of luck in the tournament and as you put it give me hell.

Anonymous said...

Morton is the last 1 in.

Anonymous said...

How bad is the 5.0 division? The number 1 player in the state "John Patch" has a losing record, if you only count matches played.

Anonymous said...

5.0 (aka big ego division) should be eliminated.

Anonymous said...

Foad sucks. Try 2.5 next year big man.

Anonymous said...

Wow. That's mean dude. You must be really good.

No competition for Reader in 5.0. Sanchez in 4.5. Vargas in 4.0.

Anonymous said...

no way man, it's Juan Dekruyff all-the-way in 4.5s.

Anonymous said...

What happen to Tim Green and the Dibuas? This is their tournament. They earn the right to play in it.

Anonymous said...

probably too much travelling. their 4.5 team is playing Nationals this week in Vegas. best of luck guys and bring home some hardware.

Anonymous said...

'Foad sucks. Try 2.5 next year big man.'

OUCH!!! That's gonna leave a mark!!!

Anonymous said...

My pick for the 5.0. Is matt summerall. 4.5. Juan D. 4.0 Vargas.

Anonymous said...

this is how it's going to go down:
5.0 - T. Reader, 4.5 - J. Dekruyff,
4.0 - D. Naumann

Anonymous said...

Appears based on rules that Big Morts 126 points from the Fall Festival last month do not count - so he is the 1st alternate.

Anonymous said...

The cut off for points earned for the year for Players Masters tournament is Sectionals tourney. Anything after that goes into next year's points. USTA Texas takes your top 5 best results for the year for determining the rankings.

Anonymous said...

big mort has a small backhand. he definitely needs an overhaul on that backhand. if he can somehow develop a backhand that can just get the ball in play, he should do well against any opponent.

Anonymous said...

Where's the love for Alejandro Sanchez? Just because he's going to go out and get drunk the Friday night before his first match doesn't mean he can't win. He's my pick to win it all.

Anonymous said...

Nah, 'Juan' is the 'One' for 4.5s.

Anonymous said...

What are the reasons people didn't sign up for the Masters this year?

Anonymous said...

Without Kallus and Foad, the masters just doesn't seem legit. Bring back Kallus!

Anonymous said...

I don't think Kallus ever qualified for a Masters any year so why would that make this one feel any different?

Anonymous said...

Kallus would have qualified for 5.0.

Anonymous said...

with only one point for just showing up!

Anonymous said...

I HEAR KALLUS AND MOSER ARE STILL REALLY TIGHT WITH EACH OTHER. MY GIRLFRIEND SAW THEM DINING TOGETHER AT A FINE ESTABLISHMENT OFF WESTHEIMER LAST WEEK. GO FIGURE.

Anonymous said...

League matters. Tourneys don't.

Anonymous said...

I was in Hawaii, Philadelphia, and Nashville over the last week. Perhaps it was Taylor Dent dining with Jochen. DK

Anonymous said...

League is for losers like Tim Green and Red Benzon. Don't be surprised when Green tanks every single match next year.

Anonymous said...

green is not that good to tank matches. he needs all the win he can get

Happy Halloween!!!

Anonymous said...

Why? Did you see him having dinner with Moser again?

Anonymous said...

Sarosh could be a sleeper pick for 4.5 masters also. The dude went to nationals in 4.5s this weekend. Does that mean he is getting bumped up to 5.0s next year?

Anonymous said...

That would be funny if Sarosh made 5.O s. That would give me one more person to beat the shit out of. LOTS.

Hey here's a few more categories that never seem to get put on the "best" list.

* Best endurance
* Best speed/quickness
* Best older player
* Best sportsmanship
* Best never give up attitude
* Best player who gets the most out of their limited ability
* Best player who underachieves the most
* Best hands/touch player
* Best gamesmanship/intimidation player

All these things factor in in winning & losing & need to be recognized. You really need to do it by level to be accurate. Too many players out there.

Anonymous said...

Since you put up the categories, why don't you kick it off with your picks for each.
