Is It June Already?

Well, it looks like no one bothers coming to this blog anymore (myself included) but I thought it was about time for me to throw up something new.  Heading into June, some of the most surprising things I have noticed are the following:  1) tournament participation may be down at 4.0 and 3.5 levels, but it does look like all the bump-ups to 4.5 have been willing to give it a go as draw sizes seem to be running a bit larger at the major zones this year, 2) true to recent history, no one plays 5.0 and it did not help that no one was bumped up to 5.0, 3) Some new blood from Houston has been doing pretty decent on the tourney front this year - namely Guy and McCool.  Neither had much of a 4.5 history available on line but Guy has been active and successful in various leagues over the years.  Good to see some Houston guys stepping up to replace those that seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Here's to a successful Tyler, San Antonio, and Fort Worth over the next couple of months.

Guy, what has he done. He has played all the majors and his best result is the semis. I think his results are bad.

•All 50 states are represented in reservations with interest from both Ford and non-Ford customers; 51 percent of Fiesta reservations are from non-Ford customers
•Customers can place their order for a 2011 Ford Fiesta through their local Ford dealer beginning on Monday, Feb. 15
•The new 2011 Ford Fiesta is projected to deliver best-in-class highway fuel economy of
40 mpg and will offer 15 class-exclusive technologies

The New 2011 Ford Fiesta
DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 11, 2010 – Fiesta momentum continues to grow months before the car arrives in dealer showrooms this summer. The 2011 Ford Fiesta now has 6,000 reservations – half of them from non-Ford customers – and more than 100,000 handraisers showing an interest in the new fuel-efficient car.

The Reservations program is providing Ford with a better understanding of consumer preferences. Nearly 60 percent of customers are opting for high series models, and 65 percent are choosing the five-door hatchback. Among the top three color choices are Blue Flame and Lime Squeeze.

“People saw the Fiesta come to life through the Fiesta Movement, a program where 100 young trendsetters drove a European-spec Ford Fiesta for six months, which created tremendous interest for the vehicle,” said Sam De La Garza, Fiesta brand manager. “That interest now has translated into 6,000 reservations from interested consumers who can build and price their Fiesta.”

The Fiesta Reservations program lets consumers build, price and reserve a 2011 Ford Fiesta, while giving them a VIP experience in conjunction with Ford dealers. Orders can be placed starting Monday, when customers with a reservation will receive communication from their personal Reservations consultant to assist in meeting with their dealer and place their order.

Interest for the 2011 Fiesta is stemming from both Ford and non-Ford customers alike. More than half of the reservations are coming from non-Ford owners. The top non-Ford sources of reservations are coming from Honda, Toyota, Jeep and Saturn owners. Reservations from customers driving European and Japanese import brands outnumber reservations from customers driving other domestic brands two to one.

Fiesta popularity grows nationwide
With reservations coming from all 50 states, California is the leading source of reservations among those under the age of 45. Every corner of the United States is represented in the reservations bank. Top states are Michigan, California, Florida, New York, Texas, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

The Fiesta Movement had an impact on more than just the millions of people who tuned in to follow the agents.

“Driving around in my Fiesta made me feel like a rock star. That little green car received envious stares from strangers, accolades from friends, and occasional rounds of applause from gearheads I ran into at gas stations. I can’t think of any other car I would rather own,” said Fiesta Movement agent Bliss Dennen.

Reservations assure customized service
By reserving a Fiesta early, consumers will receive prioritized order handling, including automatic build updates, a personal Fiesta Reservations consultant and the SYNC® and Premium Sound Package at no charge once their Fiesta is built. Once the vehicle purchase is completed, participants will be able to share their vehicles’ information through social media sites like Facebook.

Fiesta reservations can be made by visiting http://www.fordvehicles.com/2011fiesta?glbcmp=ford|news-announcements|fordvehicles or by texting “reserve” to 4Ford on a smart phone.

WIMBLEDON, England -- The longest match in tennis history was suspended because of darkness at 59-59 in the fifth set at Wimbledon on Wednesday night.

The first-round match between 23rd-seeded John Isner of Tampa, Fla., and qualifier Nicolas Mahut of France had already been suspended because of fading light Tuesday night after the fourth set.

They have been playing each other for a total of exactly 10 hours -- 7 hours, 6 minutes in the fifth set alone, enough to break the full-match record of 6:33, set at the 2004 French Open.

Never before in the history of Wimbledon, which was first contested in 1877, had any match -- singles or doubles, men or women -- lasted more than 112 games, a mark set in 1969. Isner and Mahut played more games than that in their fifth set and still did not determine a victor, although the American came close: He had four match points -- four chances to end things with one more point -- but Mahut saved each one.

Even a courtside electronic scoreboard couldn't keep up, getting stuck at 47-47 when the score had really risen to 48-48 and then eventually going dark entirely.

Yet the pair played on. All the numbers were truly astounding: They played 881 points, 612 in the fifth set. Isner hit 98 aces, Mahut 95 -- both eclipsing the previous high for a match at any tournament, 78.

And this cannot be emphasized enough: They are not finished. No one won. The match will continue, stretching into a third day.

The drama drew an overflow crowd on cozy Court 18, and others players watched the telecast in fascination.

"I have almost no words anymore watching this," defending champion Roger Federer said. "It's beyond anything I've ever seen and could imagine. I don't know how their bodies must feel the next day, the next week, the next month. This is incredible tennis. For them to serve the aces they served and stay there mentally is a heroic effort.

"As we know, we have no draws in tennis, so there will be a loser. But I guess in this match, both will be winners because this is just absolutely amazing," he said.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Mahut and Isner approached the net to discuss with a tournament official whether to keep going Wednesday.

"I want to play," Mahut said, "but I can't see."

Fans began chanting "We want more! We want more!" and then rose to salute the players with a standing ovation.

In a courtside TV interview, Isner said: "Nothing like this will ever happen again. Ever."

That's why I don't play Wimbledon, they don't have a tie-breaker for the fifth set!
