Next Up, Wacko Waco.

Congrats to winners of Copperfield, especially last minute sneak-in David Guy, who ended up winning the 4.5 singles. I would have had Guy in my poll and voted for him if he had been in the draw AT THE SAME TIME AS EVERYONE ELSE. But no worries.

Next up Waco, site of the best tennis facility for a major zone in the entire state. Always good tennis up in Waco, and usually good weather to go with it, so let's hope for the best. Call out to all you 5.0 guys to answer lord of the strings and show up so that he doesn't get to take home the 5.0 title as the result of winning a measly 2 matches. Here's hoping for a 16 draw.

Will Alfonso and the valley crew make the drive? It would be a first, but Alfonso might like the idea of running away with all the majors with the exception of Abilene, which really only qualifies on the basis of points not level of competition anyway.

Will this year's crop of 4.0 graduates show up again and do some damage to the 4.5 veterans?

Will Greg Schmucker show up for his 1st non-Houston tournament of the year?

Will Foad's resurgence in 4.0 continue?

Will Brian Smith make the drive, and if so will he play 5.0 or Open?

Just a few of exciting topics to discuss on DAYS OF OUR RECREATIONAL, WANNABE TENNIS LIVES.

Foad is over-rated in 4.0. Rumor has it that the HTA is bumping him down to 3.0.

Where are Houston's rising stars, Ishmael Dutchunder and Tuyen Nuyen (2-yen, no game yen)? Guess they got cold feet.

Anonymous said...

nobody cares about them because they either suck and dont win enough to get attention or they are just plain boring as of yet. post something juicy and the responses will flow, like i heard nuyen is a grass-smoking transvestite who should be playing 4.5 but plays 4.0 because he has a crush on Foad.

Lord of the Strings, Thomas Reader, Houston 5.0s will wait until 11:59 PM the night of the deadline to sign up for Waco since its been extended to 5/22. Here are the predictions:

If Reader is sober the score vs. Houston 5.0s will be 6-0, 6-0.
If Reader is drunk the score vs. Houston 5.0s will be 6-2, 6-1.
If Reader is stoned the score vs. Houston 5.0s will be 6-3, 6-4.
If Reader is stoned & drunk the score vs. Houston 5.0s will be 7-5, 7-6.

Anonymous said...

So, now we know who is the local guy from Houston who likes to wear Jason Giambi's thong.

I would never have known due to that oversize beer toting, big mac sandwich eating GUT that overlaps thong and everything else.

Anonymous said...

You have it completely backwards. A stoned Reader crushes his opponent 6-0, 6-0. A completely sober Reader wins, but the score is 6-3, 6-2. You would be surprised how much a good stoning can do to calm the nerves and keep you playing relaxed even in tight situations.

Anonymous said...

OK Reader, you're right. My bad.

Anonymous said...

i agree to that, i play better tennis after a couple of beers. on the downside, it's not good for your stamina.

Anonymous said...

Thanks again Mr. Reader. My bad.

Why is there so much hate for Bubba on this blog??? I have known the guy since I was about 14.. And im sure he could kick everybodys asses on this blog.. and why does everybody blog as anonymous?? Are you so retarded that you cannot follow directions on setting up an account?? Just curious..

Anonymous said...

David, this blog is full of vultures that sit all day and wait for someone to post under their name so that they can pounce on them with a slew of negative comments.

The author hides behind anonymous as well so there is no real incentive to post your name. If you ever want to talk about how much Kallus, Foad, Green, Red or Reader sucks then this is your place.

Nice job this weekend buddy!

David Guy (HoustonClassmates.com) said...

I have no trouble talking smack as myself.. in fact I encourage it.. =) Maybe I will start playing more than 1 tourney a year from now on.. as long as they dont interfere with my golf tourneys.. =)

Anonymous said...

Congratulations in winning the 4.5 singles at Copperfield this past weekend “Super Dave”. Job well done!

Anonymous said...

Lord of the strings we need some trash talking here fast before we all fall sleep.

Brandon Halm said...

Dave...you spanked me good last weekend...!! You have some solid groundstrokes.......I hope I gave you a scare in the first set with my 2-1 lead....! - Brandon

Anonymous said...

Lord...count at least one Houston player in...see you in Waco. By the way, I received your message but lost your phone number. I am unable to get any Babolat rackets for the kids, Sorry.

David Guy...good job over the weekend. Let me know if you want to go to Waco to help represent Houston...we can take one car. By the way I am playing in a golf tournament Saturday if you are interested in playing in it let me know. Format is a one-man scramble.

Goldberg...what did you do to my doubles partner? He has retired from tennis I think. You must be playing well. Keep it up.

Dinker

Brandon regarding you getting spank by David Guy, please keep your personal business private. This is a tennis blog.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Brandon this is a very polite, social, love & respect everyone tennis blog. Please keep your personal business private.

Anonymous said...

No Brandon, please give all the talk shit behing your back, loving tennis players in Houston all the dirt. All of David Guy's female admirers would be interested in knowing he is in to spankin men too. Makes good for future rumors at tournaments.

Anonymous said...

brokeback

Anonymous said...

Alfonso Rodriguez would kill David Guy. David you better not play a tournament that Alfonso is playing or you will be receiving the spanking.

Anonymous said...

Nah, I don’t think so. Super Dave can hang with Alfonso Rodriguez. It will be a 3 setter for sure but Super Dave will prevail at the end. The score might be something like 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in favor of Super Dave.

Anonymous said...

thats like saying dave could hang with reader. rodriguez and reader would be a good match--although reader might prevail

Anonymous said...

FYI, Super Dave you need to play more tennis and less golf if you going to play Waco MZ in 4.5s, b/c the competition is going to be fierce up there.

Anonymous said...

Everyone talks about Alfonso as though he is some "tennis god." This is 4.5 and 5.0 tennis we are talking about. If he is that good, then maybe he should play Open and leave the NTRP divisions for what they are. I have seen him play, and yes he is good, and yes he will be competitive with the likes of Reader, Dibua, Green, and some others.

Anonymous said...

Guy hung with Reader in juniors because there were so many hot chicks out there-My buddy saw Guy beat some hot shit junior while drunk and with the hershey squirts AND being overweight. Don't count out "AGUYSSI" against anyone

Anonymous said...

Hey Super Dave, don't forget you got till 11:59 PM today to sign up for Waco MZ. It will be cool to see you in the 4.5s draw at Waco. Awesome dude.

Anonymous said...

Fierce competition, hershey squirts. Wow, lets keep your "freak" crap to yourself and focus on tennis.

Anonymous said...

Hey man, I can dig hershey squirts as being "freaky", but what wrong with fierce competition dude.

Anonymous said...

New Tennis Magazine has an article on different mental players. Looks like they have one on Kallus called the Finger Pointer. Read it it is dead on.

Anonymous said...

Fierce sounds like some cross dressing freak, that dresses in his wifes lingerie

Anonymous said...

Fasten your seat belts b/c here we go again boys & girls. The cycle of hate is back once again with Kallus. Guess who's next?

Anonymous said...

"Fierce sounds like some cross dressing freak, that dresses in his wifes lingerie"

Sounds like you have some "freaky" imagination dude.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is a nice guy, a little different, but overall a nice guy.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is cool, I buy that.
A little different, I buy that too.
Kallus sucks, I don't buy that.

Anonymous said...

Even when I am on break from tournament tennis, you guys come after me. I make no apologies for being different. I am who I is. Sadly, you won't get to beat me up about how bad I will get my ass kicked by BYE in Waco cause for the 1st time in 10 years (I think) I won't be there. Shock of all shocks, I will be visiting Mickey Mouse in Florida with my family instead. Guess my dedication to the game has definitely slipped. I hope its not too windy at Universal Studios. I am not very good at riding roller coasters when its windy. BYE, better start practicing, cause I will be coming after you in the 1st round at Tyler.

Anonymous said...

Kallus, go on and enjoy your vacation with your family dude. We're just messing with you man.

Anonymous said...

Daniel

Don't being going sleeveless on the hulk roller coaster, they might confuse you for the hulk.

Anonymous said...

If Super Dave can beat Alfonso, the next poll should be who is better Super Dave or Reader.

We all know Alfonso will play most of the majors. Super Dave play one. You played a small local tournament and played three matches that went three sets, whats up with that, last time I look Alfonso's has only dropped one set all year.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Kallus is being his usual joking self so please lay off the comments about how there he goes again being defensive. Have fun in Florida, hope you don't go thru any tennis withdrawal pains.

Anonymous said...

Kallus, don't worry, you will get the same amount of points by going to see Mickey as you would playing in Waco.

Anonymous said...

Met top lineup is as follows:

Jason Freeman #1 singles
Brian Goldberg #2 singles

Richard Patton/Charlie Smith #1 doubles

David Lombardi/Jon Evans #2 doubles

Joe Shornick/Don Rios #3 doubles

Anonymous said...

Waco 5.0 field looks very strong:
Dibua, Green, Gound, Reader, Manalo, Black, etc. Should be good.

Anonymous said...

You lost me when you got to Black.

Anonymous said...

Reggie Black should be playing 4.5 not 5.0. Probably due to his cramping though.

Anonymous said...

dibua vs. reader in the finals if they are on separate sides...interesting the poll is about even.

Anonymous said...

oops--manalo vs. dibua would be good too

Anonymous said...

Manalo does not stand a chance against Dibua. Dibua will eat his short floaters alive.

Anonymous said...

ok...lets think about it. manalo lost to reader in 3 sets. most people who posted here thing reader would beat dibua in straights. therefore, it seems manalo vs. dibua will be interesting, no?

Anonymous said...

Different styles of play create different results. Reader can actually hit out on the ball, and will most likely have to if he wants to beat Dibua. Manalo is fast and smart, but lacks the shot selection and pace that Reader has.

Anonymous said...

It would be an interesting match between Manalo and Dibua, but i dont think Manalo would give Dibua much trouble.

Anonymous said...

Its Omon, NOT Odion

Anonymous said...

same thing. theyre both good and both capable of beating each other, no

Anonymous said...

Who cares about the 5.0 division. Not enough players actually play 5.0 and the draws are so small. How can anyone in 5.0 feel good about winning a couple of rounds to win the tournament? Better off either playing 4.5 if your rating will let you or just sign up for Open.

Brandon Halm said...

This is the Halm's farewell post.....I have received my orders to go back overseas. I am heading to D.C. for some language training and then out to Kazakhstan for two years. Yes, I will say hi to Borat for everyone....then I am going to kick some ass against their Davis Cup Team....!!!! Thanks for all the good Houston competition in the tournaments! - Halm

Anonymous said...

Any predictions for the Waco tournament? Sleepers?

Anonymous said...

Good luck Halm. Take your racquets, there is a lot of tennis to play over there.

Anonymous said...

So long Brandon. Too bad we never got a chance to hit. If nothing else you and Borat can go and make happy time with some gypsies. Stay safe.

Anonymous said...

The Waco quarters match of Alfonso Rodriguez vs Super David Guy should be interesting. I pick Alfonso 6-4, 6-3 or David.

Kern vs Smucker will be interesting. I pick Smucker.

Anonymous said...

Talk about Troutman getting a terrible draw, he's going to have to earn this one

Anonymous said...

Corey Noel vs. Jason Warren is a good 1st Rd. match in M4.5 Singles. My pick is Jason Warren in 3 tough sets.

Anonymous said...

Waco Tourney Picks:

Men's 5.0 Singles: Lord of the strings "Thomas Reader"
Men's 4.5 Singles: Super Dave Guy
Men's 4.0 Singles: Anybody but Foad
Men's 3.5 Singles: ???

Anonymous said...

David Guy will have a hard time in Waco because he cramps up. I could see this happening since the weather will be hot there. Second half of the draw in 4.5's has some loaded dinkers and junk ball artists. Interesting if Knutson plays Sanchez. Not for sure who would win that.

Anonymous said...

Most crampers will not survive in Waco. It is a melting pot of heat and the West Nile Virus. Take plenty water, gatorade, and bug spray, the minute you walk out of the tennis center you are covered in mosquitos.

Anonymous said...

The spoils and the trophies will go to the ones that can stand the heat, won’t cramp and can run like rabbit all day long around the court in 100 degrees temperature. Survivors of Waco MZ, I salute you!

Anonymous said...

David Guy has zero chance of beating Alfonso Rodrigue, keep dreaming Super Dave. No excuses. I don't care if its windy, hot, cold, cramping, no cramping, you belong in 4.5's and after Alfonso gives you a spankin, it will become clear to everybody.

Anonymous said...

To the last poster, no one has ever said Guy doesnt belong in 4.5 singles.

Anonymous said...

David Guy usually only plays open tennis tournament. I take that to mean he thinks he is an open tournament player and does not belong in 4.5s.

Anonymous said...

David Guy usually only plays open tennis tournament. I take that to mean he thinks he is an open tournament player and does not belong in 4.5s.

Anonymous said...

Super Dave perhaps you can answer this question are you a 4.5 player or an open player?

Anonymous said...

C. Leach vs. Mike Hanson should be a tough one! Chris be nice to old man Hanson and at least give him a game in each set. Good to see you playing again buddy.

Anonymous said...

Guy, like many other tennis players play Open in small tournaments for practice. Ask yourself this: how would he fair against guys like: Valdez, Jegede, Sadler, Ogu, Omana? When he can compete with them, he has graduated to Open level tennis.

Anonymous said...

Super Dave is a bench mark for 4.5s. Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last poster. He is rated 4.5 and it is what it is.

Anonymous said...

i thought kallus was the benchmark?

Anonymous said...

Knutson should be the 4.5 benchmark player. if you can't beat him, then you don't belong in 4.5s. interesting to see who would win between Kallus and Knutson.

Anonymous said...

That would be an interesting matchup: backspin vs no spin.

NEW POLL

Anonymous said...

any predictions in the doubles

Anonymous said...

Knutson vs Kallus? that's some ugly tennis. even the crickets would fall asleep.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is a disgrace to the 4.5 level
I hope the computer wises up and bumps him down to where he deserves

Anonymous said...

He has been bumped down before, usually the mid year ratings bump him down. Not sure why he does not just run with it and be a solid line #3 singles player for a summer team.

Anonymous said...

I know of some womens 3.5 and 4.0 teams in the area that would love his addition to their team

Anonymous said...

Who cares about Kallus and Knutson they are both 4.0 players.

Anonymous said...

They both could easily beat Foad so I guess that makes them #1 and #2 in the state at 4.0.

Anonymous said...

Troutman has the easiest draw of all the seeded players, hands down.

Anonymous said...

So then Troutman should win the tournament

Anonymous said...

Dude, why is there so much anger & hate towards Kallus, Foad, and Knutson? They are bunch of players with different styles of play. Chill out man before you explode!

Anonymous said...

Play a match against Kallus or Foad then you will understand. Very unpleasant characters.

Anonymous said...

Foad's actions and antics on the court overshadow any decent tennis he is capable of playing. I will give Kallus credit, most of his actions are directed at himself. Foad's are typically directed at the opponents or people on courts next to him, no one is safe.

Anonymous said...

Foad is ridiculous on court.

Anonymous said...

Dude, I suggest you read “winning ugly” by Brad Gilbert and then you would be less critical of these guys demeanor on the court. Winning matches is what it’s all about.

Anonymous said...

I agree, and Kallus most do not have a problem with. But Foad's disrespect towards everyone else has nothing to do with tennis. Its his way of not dealing with the fact that he is just not as good as he thinks he is on the tennis court.

Anonymous said...

Dude I say it again, go and read “winning ugly” by Brad Gilbert, then you will understand why these guys win constantly. There not out there to be your drinking buddy, there out there to win, pure and simple.

Anonymous said...

"win constantly"

Are you talking about Ansari and Kallus. "Win constantly," I can't stop laughing at that.

Anonymous said...

All the laughing over here has my stomach hurting. Must be a Foad buddy posting that comment.

Anonymous said...

Obviously the book "winning ugly" is not working for Foad. maybe ask a witch doctor to put curses on your next opponent. maybe that would help you win.

Anonymous said...

"witch doctor"...lol...

Anonymous said...

Big upset of the tournament:
Dennis Hiilsmeier taking out Mark Gonzales in the 1st Rd. and then Greg Schmucker in the 2nd Rd. Go Dennis Go...

Anonymous said...

Journeyman, what do you say it's time for another thread of thoughts!

Anonymous said...

Yea, Journeyman, and tell us a little bit more about yourself.
give us a couple of hints.

Anonymous said...

When it comes to Kallus, I would agree with "whiny", but the guy competes and could care less about who he plays and how much shit talk people put on here or in his face. GO KALLUS!!!!

Anonymous said...

Foad hooks.

Anonymous said...

Foad makes bad line calls?

Anonymous said...

Dude, quit bitching and moaning and go hit some balls. If he hooks you then call a line judge. This shit is getting way too old.

Anonymous said...

Right back at you man.

Anonymous said...

you guys kiss and make up..maybe get a room together in Waco

Anonymous said...

Journeyman save us the misery of these two "Dudes" and start us a new thread please.

Anonymous said...

The guy rights 3 lines saying quit bitching and the other guy writes 1 or 2 words. Who's bitching?

Anonymous said...

The other dude, man...

Anonymous said...

DUDE!!!!

Anonymous said...

What's up DUDE?

Anonymous said...

Kallus has never been rated 4.0 at year end so why does it matter what the mid-year ranking says? I don't think he has been appealing to the USTA to leave him up at 4.5 instead of bumping him down so I don't quite get the point of insults directed at his playing the level USTA has him rated at. Maybe someone out there knows a lot more about the ratings than I do. Also, like it or not, but Knutson is a 4.5 player. He may hit the ball like a 3.0 player but he does it consistently and with good strategy so it makes him incredibly difficult and frustrating to face. I bet he takes down at least 1 more top 4.5 for the year is over.
