Remember The Alamo!....City MZ Deadline.

Last string was getting really long (120+), so time to start fresh. Congrats to Tyler Champs, you know who you are, even if I haven't heard of some of you. To those participating in Al Edwards, have fun, but not much too talk about given the small draws. Reggie wins 5.0 and either Halm or Morales win 4.5. Done.

More importantly, deadline for Alamo City is Sunday, June 29, so remember to sign up. Please feel free to take the Dinker Challenge and sign up for the 5.0 draw. If you are a glutton for the punishment that 12 man singles and 3 team doubles draws represent (sarcastic), sign up for both events. More seriously and Dinker's comments aside, it would be great to see more guys playing 5.0, thus producing more interesting draws and the prospect of a true weekend's worth of tennis. Even better, if you do sign up for 5.0 and lose, why not actually stick around and play your consolation match for a change. That might also inspire some of the guys from 4.5 who are willing to give 5.0 a try, but know they may very well lose in the 1st round, the prospect of getting at least a couple of matches under their belt.

Finally, only 2nd round of Wimbledon and both Djokovic and Roddick are already gone. Time to pull for Safin. Maybe Alfonso will end up dropping a match here in Texas before the season is done....though I dont' see who could pull it off.

I agree that more players should play consolation.

Can anyone in San Antonio recommend a good hotel to stay at by the Riverwalk?

Dinker

Anonymous said...

Believe it or not, the red roof inn is actually a great place to stay near the river. Sounds shitty, but its nice.

Anonymous said...

sleep in your car.

Priceline works wonders Tim. I have gotten some really good deals on hotels, even in the overpriced San Antonio Riverwalk area. Do not bid on anything under 3 stars though, you might not like where you end up.

Bad news for Lord of the Strings, Brian Smith signed up for San Antonio....

dinker said...

Good to see Alfonso moving up to 5.0 for San Antonio.

Anonymous said...

Brian Smith will easily win the 5.0 singles draw. I am glad to see the draw will be bigger than 8 players. Several of the 4.5 players have taken Tim's challenge and are preparing to play him.

Good Luck Tim I hear alot of these 4.5 players are gunning for you.
(A-Rod, Yien, and etc.)

Anonymous said...

Do you think that Alfonso can challenge Brian Smith for the Alamo City crown? I wonder how the seeding for that draw will pan out. Brian dosent have enough points who garner The #1 seed and could have a tough draw. What do ya'll think

Anonymous said...

Who ever has to play Brian Smith will have a bad draw. Brian Smith can beat A-Rod, Tim, and Reader back to back to back and still win not dropping a set.

I am hoping for a Tim Green vs A-Rod match, just to see who wins.

Anonymous said...

A-Rod would kill Tim, he has already beaten him once. A-Rod is alot better now then he was when he beat Tim the first time. The score would be 6-3, 6-3 A-Rod.

What do others think the score would be, I am sure everybody is picking A-Rod in the match.

Anonymous said...

The finalists in 5.0 have been decided: Brian Smith vs. A-Rod. All other players please accept defeat and do not waste your gas or money to drive to San Antonio.

What a draw we are going to have in 5.0 singles. Good to see more 5.0 doubles players as well. Should be lots of fun.

From the last thread several of you posted under my name which wasn't cool and kinda weird for grown men to do that. If I did have any issues or comments about somebody I wouldn't post it under somebody else's name. That just doensn't make any sense. How come I have to be the scapegoat?

Cause most people on this blog Goldberg just have apathy, anger, and hate issues. I think most would do good to get a psych assessment.

Just ignore those losers.

Personally,I believe a healthy Reader would beat Smith.Reader can serve and volley, but also has a serious forehand and baseline game.Smith has just a big serve and volley game.By looking at he results, why does Reader have a tough time with Manalo?Reader beat Black very badly both times then splits with Manalo the day after Henry goes three with Black!I guess it does depend on how high or hungover Reader is.

Anonymous said...

Why isn't Smith playing open?

Anonymous said...

the heat has a bigger factor

Anonymous said...

I think the person posting all these bad things about Goldberg is Knutson since since Goldberg beat him last time they played.

Anonymous said...

When did Goldberg and Knutson play, that match had be ugly to watch

Anonymous said...

Goldberg and Knutson both are 4.0 players and should go back to 4.0s

Anonymous said...

Yeah Goldberg killed Knutson in a practice match and now won't hit with Goldberg anymore. Whats the deal with that Knutson?

Anonymous said...

I can't believe how many times we seem to discuss the outcome of a practice match as if it matters in relation to tournament results. Do I think that Goldberg can hang with Knutson. Yes. Do I think that his winning a practice match against him has significance. No. If I am not mistaken, Goldberg has beaten Kallus on several occasions in practice matches yet I do not believe he has ever actually won a match against him in a tournament and I know they have faced each other at least a few times, two of which I have witnessed parts of (Galveston & Lost Forest). Both were good matches, but Kallus won them both. Point being that most players usually step it up in tournaments and don't take it as seriously in practice whereas a few seem to take practice matches as their chance to prove they can hang with someone that other people don't think they can. I bet if Knutson and Goldberg played 5 tournament matches, Knutson would win 4 of them and the 5th would be close.

Anonymous said...

Fact is Goldberg crushed Knutson so what does it matter. Knutson has not been the same since.

Anonymous said...

Knutson just got double-bageled last week. go back to 4.0.

Anonymous said...

i saw some of the match btw smith vs. garg at coke. i have to agree with previous post. garg cramping his butt off for most of the second set almost won that set. but smith is solid but lord of strings should have second chance.

Anonymous said...

it's going to be a tough match up between Smith and Reader. Reader will be the person more anticipating the match. so i have to give him the slight advantage.

Anonymous said...

Reader...it dosent seem like many people on this blog think you can beat me. I personally think our games match up well and should always good matches. Not Sure how the seeding will pan out but I would like to play you in in the finals again. Good luck and see you a couple of weeks

Goldberg Rules!!!

Anonymous said...

Just caught up on the blog today. I just have to say Knutson is always bragging about guys he beats in practice. So he would let people know about players he beat.

Anonymous said...

If I had a dime for every time I have heard Knutson brag about someone he beat in a practice or North Suburban League match, I would already have at least $1.50. I am just sayin....

Goldberg rules, Kallus sucks...I am out!

Anonymous said...

Knutson got double bageled this past week in NOHO league.

Anonymous said...

Who did Knutson get the double bagel from this past week?

Anonymous said...

That is 3 words Reader!!

Anonymous said...

Knutson got Double Bageled by Phi from the Kingwood NOHO team.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker quit talking trash about knutson just because he kicked your but in a tourment. Knutson talk has been non stop since Knutson smoked Schmucker.

Anonymous said...

Knutson sucks, Goldberg rules.

Anonymous said...

Leave Knutson alone he has a german sheperd for a dog. Not a freakin Poodle.

Anonymous said...

Knutson would never waste his time playing Goldberg in a practive match.

Seeds in the 5.0 at Alamo City

1)Manalo
2)Green
3)Reader
4)Smith

This be interesting as to whether the seeds will play out. In my opinion (which does not mean anything) the Semis will be Smith over Manalo and and Reader over Green with Smith beating reader in the finals. Your thoughts?

Anonymous said...

Pick for Alamo City MZ:

Men's Open - Adrian "the animal" Valdez
Men's 5.0 - Thomas "lord of the strings" Reader
Men's 4.5 - Alejandro "slient killer" Sanchez
Men's 4.0 - James "huracaine" Rice

Nuff said.

Trash VS Class

T. Reader VS B. Smith

Anonymous said...

Just so everyone knows, there is nothing I can do to police against people signing their post with someone else's name. Sometimes its funny, mostly its lame. I definitely don't condone anyone trying to start a fight or create friction between two players. If you have to do it, keep it confined to one of the following two combos: Foad & Sarosh, Goldberg & Knutson.

Anonymous said...

Sorry you feel that way.

1) I don't spend my time sitting around watching the blog all day to see every post as it comes across.

2) Individual posts cannot be removed. The entire thread has to be deleted. That seems extreme.

3) #2 doesn't matter much anyway because of #1.

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to share them and if there is something that can be done, I will do it.

You are a cool guy Reader, I will miss your colorful comments. Good luck in San Antonio.

Anonymous said...

I had a feeling this would happen after the Goldberg incident.Honestly, one of the main reasons I even read this stuff is to see what Reader has to say.Whoever is talking smack about him, really doesn't know him and for someone to call him trash or post under his name does make this a whole lot less interesting. What a f--king loser.I'll bet Brian Smith never even read this blog,so that means someone is posting his comments falsely as well.I'd be willing to bet it's the same loser.Too bad.

Anonymous said...

Hope you prove them wrong in San Antonio Reader!

Anonymous said...

I agree with Lord of the Strings, this blg is BS.
Why can't you just get rid of the anonymous identity that is on the blog?

Anonymous said...

Because Journey man would first have to ID himself.

Who is Journey man?

Anonymous said...

The blog is set up on a template from google. I am not a tech guy and would have no idea how to set one up on my own. As far as I know, you cannot prevent anonymous posts, but when I have time I will look into it. Also, even if no one could post anonymously, there is nothing that would force people to use their actual name. What is the difffence between anonymous and a username that you make up? We know that Dinker is Tim Green because he has told us. Otherwise, all we would know is that some guy going by "dinker" is making comments. I don't have to waste what little time I do on this blog if nobody wants it anymore. So if that is what you want, let me know cause like it or not I don't see anonymous posting disappearing anytime soon.

Anonymous said...

Journeyman ID is GREG

Anonymous said...

Keep it going Journeyman. As grown men one can take a few unpleasant punches and keep on ticking. I for one let my racquet do most of the talking for me on the court, and off the court I get along with everybody. Good luck to everyone who have signed up in Alamo City MZ. Play hard but play fair.

The Journeyman said...

Just looked it up and it looks like I could prevent comments from being posted on the blog until they have been approved by me on a message by message basis. Downside to that is that comments may not get posted for up to several days at a time cause the primary use of my time is not volunteer moderator for a tennis blog. We can either post freely and police ourselves or we can live with the fact that you might post a comment and not see it show up for several days. For instance I only look at the blog at work, so comments will almost never get posted over the weekend for those that like to post updates during tournaments. Let me know your thoughts.

Anonymous said...

did anyone see that news about the "black national anthem" being sung in denver? i know this is the tennis blog, but geez, what a complete moron that woman is. its not about black or white, its about sense. i hope the brothas and sistas here dont support such shit being sung at a national convention.

If more people would create a blogger profile we would no it was not them when someone posts using his/her name. Sign up for an account. It is free.

Can't wait to see the 5.0 Alamo draw go down. Oughta be some good battles. Watch out for Cambon. With Dibua unseeded It'll be interesting to see who draws him. I don't think anybody is going to be calling the 5.0 draw weak this time baby.

Anonymous said...

danny vs dibua tough first rounder in 5.0 then having to face manalo will be tough. I see Manalo vs smith n Reader Geen, awsome draw for the 5.0s. 4.5 Troutman should be happy he didnt draw bruno, sanchez lost to him n he almost beat rodriguez in a tough match, who ever wins that match should get to finals

Anonymous said...

this is a tennis blog and there is no comment about the wimbey final today? what a match! thoughts?

Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship, what a match. One for the history books for sure. Viva Rafa!

Dude you must be high on cracks to make a stupid comment like that. I think he gave us one heck of a match for the memory lanes. Viva Rafa.

Anonymous said...

VAMOS! RAFA!

Anonymous said...

Nadel, isn't all that great of a player, his is just lucky. If he would have went to a REAL couch instead of his uncle he would have won Wimbeldon a long time ago. Player that are good and know they are good, know that I'm right. I bet you anything I could EASILY take 3 games off him. Don't get me wrong, I know I can't beat him, because I'm a little out of shape, an my belly has gotten too big, however, I train alot, and I play on weekly leages and I have good stokes, and an excellent two handed back hand (just like Rafa)and people I hit against in 4.5 know this! So come get a piece of this belly RAFA,,,,,

This shit just isn't the same without Reader. It sounds like one of the last guys posting is trying to make it sound like it's him.Very sad,But if you do your research,or just use common sense, you'll notice Reader hardly ever uses capital letters when he posts.I also don't think Mr.Smith ever posted either. That's what I think Reader means when he says it's a waste of time.Anonymous is O.K, as for falsely posting to start static between two people,I completely agree with Reader.

Anonymous said...

Hey 5.0 draw is out!Could there be a semi-final show down between Reader and Alfonso? Can't wait to see that one!

Anonymous said...

My Picks for Alamo City MZ:

Men's Open - Adrian Valdez
Men's 5.0 - Thomas Reader
Men's 4.5 - Alejandro Sanchez
Men's 4.0 - James Rice

I also picked Rafa & Venus to win.

Anonymous said...

How bad is Alfonso going to beat Green in the Alamo City? And how bad is Smith going to beat Reader in the finals?

Anonymous said...

Okay,it's time for the truth to come out.It seems that one of you is on to me already.Greg Schmucker is the journeyman...so there you have it.Any questions?

Anonymous said...

Alfonso is going to beat Green 2,2.
Reader is going to beat Smith 4,4.

Anonymous said...

Is that really you Journeyman?I'm confused,I guess that's what everybody means by this being weird by being able to put up whatever name you want.Or is Greg really the Journeyman?

Anonymous said...

Well son of a gun!Has the journeyman finally come forward?Or is he another victim of false identity like Goldberg and Reader?

Anonymous said...

I'm confused

Anonymous said...

Journeyman is not Greg Schmucker. Journeyman is ME.

Anonymous said...

I am not the Journeyman. And this is not really me posting. But for real, I am not the Journeyman

The Journeyman said...

From now on, unless you see it in blue, it is not a post from the actual Journeyman. Why does it matter who I am anyway?

Anonymous said...

It's okay guys it's just me J.C. I just wanted to wish eveybody luck in the Alamo City tournament.Being the son of God I could tell you the outcome, but that wouldn't be very fun would it?Best of luck and Godbless.By the way,did you guys see the men's final in England? Fuckin A!!

Anonymous said...

You are going to wilt in the sun pretending to be JC.

Anonymous said...

Dinker is gonna lose 1 & 1 to Alfanso, but he's still my friend.

Anonymous said...

Dinker is another word for penis in the North.

Anonymous said...

Green vs. Rodriguez should be a close one (if both get out of their 1st rounders, Why is no one giving Green a shot vs. Rodriguez, 1 n 1? come one Green is the second best player in 5.0s, He deserves a little more respcet than that, Dibua can also give Manalo some problems if his serve is on. I still like Smith vs Reeder in finals. With Smith winning 3 n 4.

in 4.5s Sanchez has his hands full with a tough first rounder, Troutman should make it to this one since he wont have to face anyone good until maybe quarter or semis, but will he show up?

Anonymous said...

The 5.0 draw could be better if guys like sanchez, troutman and some of the other top 4.5 guys step up, this is a measuring stick between 4.5 n 5.0, with zheng and rodriguez moving up to play 5.0 it will be interesting to see the gap between 4.5 and 5.0

Anonymous said...

Everyone better than Kallus should move up to 5.0, which would basically reduce future 4.5 draws to some combination of Kallus, Goldberg, Knutson, Hilsmeier, and the ever competitive Michael Hanson.

Anonymous said...

kallus sucks

Anonymous said...

Why is there so much hate on Kallus? The dude is a self taught, average player. Give the dude a break man.

Anonymous said...

Be nice to Michael Hanson, he's my friend.

Jochen Moser's brother is playing doubles today against Marat Safin and Tomas Berdych in the 1st round of the Bastad tournament in Switzerland. Should be a treat for him. He has had a good year so far in challenger level doubles and has his ranking up to 122 in the world (doubles). Just thought it was interesting.

Anonymous said...

Sanchez will have a VERY tough match against Bruno in the first round. That dude is tough and attacks.
