Has the tennis year started? Really? I hadn't noticed.

It is hard to believe that Mabry is this weekend. This tournament used to be a pretty big deal. I guess it still is for seniors (major zone) but the 400, 200, 100 point tournament system has weakened its appeal as has the hit-or-miss weather this time of year. 16 draw for singles in 4.5 compared to 32 draws in years past. Did 5.0 even make? Did they even offer it? Berry Creek, disappointing participation. Abilene? If I saw it correctly, there were 9 guys signed up for 4.5 and only 3 for 5.0. Things are definitely amiss on the USTA tourney scene. Where are the die-hard regulars that sign up for every tournament? Kallus, you out there? Did you finally throw in the towel? Schmucker, did you decide to save the tourney fees and the hassle that comes with not showing up? Ansari is still at it, so 4.0 has that going for it? Where is the 4.0 graduating class of 2007 (Kern, Warren, etc.) that was so highly talked-up last year but never showed up at events. There is going to be a lot less to talk about this year if things continue the way they have started. I guess the MZ in San Antonio will be the first true test of player commitment this year. Maybe more guys are just planning to play closer to home, so let's see how things go at Lost Forest. I assume the Dugas brothers will play there so it will be interesting to see how many sh*t-talkers accept their challenge and come out to take them down. I wish them well cause it is good to see some new voices being expressed here. Til Later. JM

Hey JM,

Thanks for the add to the poll on the main page. I expect it will not go well for us! :-)

Hey, I'm just happy that there have been some postings about doubles lately. 99% of the time, it's all about singles on this blog. Not that singles isn't exciting, but doubles is often cast to the side.

So, can anyone comment on who they think the top doubles team are in each NTRP level?

Anonymous said...

As far as lists go, how about this one?

Smartest Player:
Funniest Player:
Craziest Player:
Most versatile player:
Most Questionable Linecaller:
Most Generous Linecaller:
Most Enjoyable to play:
Least Enjoyable to play:
If I could have any doubles partner, it would be:

I only know 4.5, so of course that is the level I have in mind but feel free to answer however you see fit.

The teams below are some of the teams that I've seen at, or near the top of the 4.5 level for a couple of years now (in no particular order).

Dyer/Gold
Mcmillioan/Chambers
Rockey/Brandt

There are also a couple of good players that I've noticed that are high up on the 4.5 chart that don't necessarily play with the same partner each time (also in no particular order).

Edward Leija
Guillermo Martin Del Campo
Trance Rosenquist
Allan Torres
Jason Kern
Michael Miller

JM, What you got against Kallus & Schmucker man. They are not even playing any tourneys!

Anonymous said...

I bet Kallus and Schmucker must of beaten JM in league or a tournament match badly. Kind of weird how JM always blogs about the both of them isn't it?

Anonymous said...

Oh Yeah.

Tennis Express SUCKS HARD. I've know that jerk Brad Blume since he was at Westchase, and he was a jerk then. I wouldn't buy anything from that store if my life depended upon it. I buy from Hollibird or Tennis Warehouse. Save yourself the trouble and buy from someone who appreciates you business.

Anonymous said...

Most improved: The Snapper Head.
Ever since he left 3.0, he has dominated. He is a hard driving tennis machine that will come at you from any angle with his cock.

Anonymous said...

To the Anonymous Loser who gets off "catagorizing" people. Hey Loser, I am a friend of Arya's. Do you have any friends that come to your defense?

You catagorize Arya as the "best quitter". Well, there is not ONE player on your list that has made it to an Open level MZ semi and 4 Open level MZ quarters. Arya has. Trust me, you can not be a quitter and do that. The guy had guts and determination to achieve that. He never played college, and he has only played tennis for a limited time, much less than you Loser. Also, he has tournament win over your boy Odion (best serve) so again, you don't beat Odion by being a quitter.

He admitted he had no business playing tournaments in '08 being out of shape and no time to play. He walked off the Amit match, never said one negative thing about Amit, and accepted his action. That is the definition of Class Loser.

I hope to see him back in '09. I know he is pretty busy at work.

Anonymous said...

Hide the Fruit Loops,,, here comes the Snapper Head with his spell checker.

Anonymous said...

Arya why are you writing a long post about yourself not being a quitter?

Anonymous said...

Go Dugas Bros. Go...

Anonymous said...

kallus sucks

Anonymous said...

Now why U want to pick on poor Kallus. He ain't even playing according to JM.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone tell me who is The Snapper Head?

That would be women's 3.5 - 4.0 team.

Anonymous said...

you are right! my bad!

Picks for ABILENE MZ tourney:

Men's Open - The Animal Adrian Valdez
Men's 5.0 - Lord of the Strings Thomas Reader
Men's 4.5 - The German Machine Jochen Moser
Men's 4.0 - Speedy Gonzalez Tuyen Nguyen
Men's 3.5 - Mike Getz

Anonymous said...

Hey, LOTS, you need to play Open tennis. 5.0 division, as witnessed from Abilene, is a joke!

You should do well in the Open.

Anonymous said...

Hey the way I look at it, for $25 you can't beat getting a 5.0 MZ trophy any day!

Anonymous said...

Journeyman, I'm not sure why my name gets tossed in as someone who ducked tournaments after I got bumped up. I just glanced at the 4.5 rankings and it shows I played in only one tournament less than last year I believe. However, I do think tournament travel will fall this year, myself included. Good luck to all those playing in Abilene.

Anonymous said...

I love it when someone throws in their little bullshit about me.And what a coincidence,it's usually an anonymous loser! And by the way I haven't commented on the Dugas brothers, because I've never met them. Also to journeyman,I've got to admit I thought the hemp comment was pretty funny.Good luck to all going to Abilene.Speaking of which,I have no idea why the fuck I'm going.

Anonymous said...

Whoever it was that voted that the Dugas brothers could beat Amit and Reader 6-0 6-0. You have got to be their mom. Mrs.Dugas,we appreciate the fact you support your sons,we really do. But the fact is,they would get bitch slapped right off the court.Sorry, but sometimes moms need to hear it from the heart.

Anonymous said...

Hey Arya, next time you write a post defending yourself,go ahead and put your name instead of anonymous. It was that obvious.

Anonymous said...

By the way,who the hell found out that our mom voted for us on the poll?

Dugas said...

So... to keep people from posting as myself, I had to get a login if I want to continue to post on this blog, because the last few posts on Feb 3. that say "Dugas said..." were not posted by me.

Arya, i don't know you, nor have I ever met you. I apologize for the people posting false information.

I think that Tim Green (think his login name was Dinker) posted about this very same problem a while back.

Anonymous said...

Hey God of Tennis, well put dude. I couldn't have said it better myself. LOL...

Anonymous said...

Snapper Head,,,, are you arriving on court with your box of Fruit Loops? If so you may want to buy some lubricant so you can get your tiny *$&% through the hole!

Anonymous said...

anyone got some good priceline hotel prices for Abilene?

Anonymous said...

Sad there are only three 5.0 players signed up for Abilene. Surprised the TD just didn't blow off the 5.0 division with only three players. WTF is that all about?

Anonymous said...

How much do you want to bet Foad loses 1st round.

Anonymous said...

That must of been a Sr. COCKroach post

Anonymous said...

Anyone that loses in the first round is my Fruit Loop!!!!

Anonymous said...

Anyone have any feedback on what's happening at Abilene?

Anonymous said...

Don't you have enough know-how to go to the USTA tournament web site and look at the results?

Anonymous said...

I can see the results. But it doesn't tell me how well everyone played.

Foad was knocked out. Did he have a meltdown or was he outplayed by Tuyet?

Who is this Jeffrey Canon guy? Potential new gun that we can expect to see in Summer League?

Everything else seemed to go by the earlier predictions?

CoreDawg said...

Very competitive semis and finals in 4.5. I got hooked at 4-4, deuce in the final set on my way to losing 7-5 in the third. Corry Walker must have been playing well to take a set off Jochen. No surprise that Jochen won in straights in the finals because Juan was hurting pretty bad after our match.

Anonymous said...

CoreDawg, congrats for the semis!

Anonymous said...

Congrats for the semi? WTF, he only played one match to get there.

Anonymous said...

Ran across this article on ESPN. You need to read this about these inmates in San Quentin playing tennis with manners. We're talking about hard core inmates having better tennis manners than the rest of us out there. Check it out:

Congrats to all the winners of Abilene MZ:
Men's Open - Adrian Valdez
Men's 5.0 - Thomas Reader
Men's 4.5 - Jochen Moser
Men's 4.0 - Jeff Canon
Men's 3.5 - Enrique Molina

Anonymous said...

congrats Reader? he only won one or two matches. why even waste your time in that event. sign up for open. congrats Moser, all your matches looks tough!

Anonymous said...

Not for sure why anyone bothers to sign up for Men's 5.0. What a joke in Abilene. Why not play 4.5 or Open instead of 5.0? I have a feeling the 5.0 draws are going to be quite small this year.

Anonymous said...

kallus sucks

Anonymous said...

I told you leave Kallus alone. He's my friend.

Anonymous said...

SAPTA-H.E.B Adult Major Zone (San Antonio)deadline is tomorrow. Don't miss out!

CoreDawg said...

Thanks. I did win one match and get one default. I really don't understand why there were so many defaults before the tournament started. I would say the weather was better than average for Abilene in February even though the wind was brutal.

Anonymous said...

which dugas has a bigger wang?

Anonymous said...

I fail to understand what is that has to do with tennis?

Anonymous said...

Last call for SAPTA-H.E.B Adult Major Zone (San Antonio)deadline is today. Don't miss out!

Anonymous said...

ain't no thang but a chicken wang

Anonymous said...

Warning to anyone on the ladies side. Kayla Fedowitz = line judge. She will hook you on close calls.

However, I will say she would have beaten me even if she didn't cheat, which makes it worse in my opinion. Just beware for the San Antonio.

Anonymous said...

If you have problems with line calls, then go and get you one of those rolling referee to watch your match. Then you can just focus on playing tennis and not so much on getting hooked by your opponent.
Bubba’s rule of thumb

Anonymous said...

all women cheat anyways. and so does sarosh

Anonymous said...

Why are there so many players playing in the Horseshoe Bay tournament this weekend? I was hoping for an easy 100 pts! Oh well.

Anonymous said...

What division are you playing in so I can also sign up for it!

Anonymous said...

I want to hear Journeyman's predictions for the year end #1 ranked player in divisions 4.5 and up. Let's commit Mr. J to some predictions so we can laugh at him or marvel at him come November. I know you'll predict Adrian Valdez in the Open, so instead give us your player most likely to dethrone the King. I'm thinking Bouffier.

Anonymous said...

I wonder how Adrian has managed to stay #1 for 5 years in Men's open. What are the strong points of his game? And, what are the weaknesses..

Anonymous said...

I noticed Jochen Moser has signed up for Men’s Open in San Antonio MZ. I hope you don’t get your ass bitch slapped by them Open Boys. Personally, I would have played 5.0 before diving into the Open draw. Good luck my man!

Anonymous said...

I think Jochen signed up for Men's Open In SA because the Open division will be playing on clay not hard courts.

Anonymous said...

Moser's forehand is a menace to many opponents. While it can be a bit erratic at times, if he's hitting it well, and his first serve is connecting, the match could be a quick one.

Anonymous said...

You forgot something, they are playing on clay not hard courts. Balls slow down on clay vs. hard courts. Nevertheless, I wish him the best.

Anonymous said...

Hey Moser if you get your ass handed to you in the Open in SA, I won’t be feeling sorry for you.

Anonymous said...

Moser is a good 4.0 at best, what the fuck is he doing playing open?

Anonymous said...

Dude! The Dugas brothers are assholes! You should see what they wrote on the Houston League blog! They called out everyone in Houston and said some very offensive shit. Not off to a good start Douche brothers

Anonymous said...

Hey I was just kidding on the league blog so take it easy! And just because our mom supports us by voting for us on the poll,it doesn't mean we're gay. Derrick is bi-sexual and I'm still experimenting. So please leave us alone with your gay comments. They are very hurtful and you should be a man and apologize, and not hide behind anonymous.

Anonymous said...

Dugas + Dugas = HOMO

Anonymous said...

Can we keep this to tennis please?

Anonymous said...

Someone write the league blog address here so we all can go and read it.

Anonymous said...

Hey LOTS any comment on the Dugas brothers antics?

Anonymous said...

Hey who you calling a wet back. Now that's real personal man. Not cool.

Anonymous said...

Any predictions for finals for the Lost Forest tournament in 4.0,4.5, and Open?

Anonymous said...

I am not certain but I would bet that they whole bash-the-dugas brothers/dugas-brothers-respond stream is the work of a single person posting both sides. I have met both of the Dugas brothers and they are not assholes and definitely did not post the comment about San Antonio. And though I bash him from time to time, Kallus is not a 3.5 player so I don't quite get that repeated insult. To each his own I guess. Some play with themselves, others get off by posting stupid anonymous comments.

Dugas said...

I don't know what it is about ragging on people that you guys get off on, but as far as I'm concerned, you guys need to get a life. Neither of us has posted anything on this blog since the last time I logged in and complained about the "false postings" earlier in this blog.

Anonymous said...

Just because you didn't say it, doesn't mean you wouldn't say it if given the chance!

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know of a good tennis retreat? I was going to go to John Newcombe, but for 2 people it will end up costing $800 for 2 days!

Any other locations worth trying?

Anonymous said...

Hey guys...word on the street is that Raul Nino has taken his game to a new level. I couldn't believe it until I saw him routine Alfonso Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1 in a local tournament. To add credibility to this, if you check out this month's Tennis magazine (March), he writes a question in the Questions part in which he was involved in a 5.5 league match. I asked him and he said he was still going to play 4.5 at the Gallery Open in Houston. He's my pick to finish the year at number 1...can't wait to see him play in Houston.

Anonymous said...

you guys are funny. there is some funny shit being made up here. you should say your name to get credit.

Anonymous said...

wow, that san antonio 4.5 draw must be the smallest in a long time. those tourney fee increase are taking its toll.

here my predictions:
open: adrian valdez
4.5: wayne morgan
4.0 ruben vargas

Anonymous said...

Dude Super Mario Gloria is my pick in 4.5s, watch out! Adrian Valdez is always a good pick, but Ruben Vargas! Vargas has to go through a bunch of 4.5 sandbaggers playing 4.0 in order to win!

Anonymous said...

super mario has a chance this year because notorious cheaters casas, troutman and raeder are not in the draw.

Anonymous said...

Oh man here we go again. Reader (A.K.A Snapper Head) is coming at someone with his spell checker,,,,, and tafterwards it will be a box of fruit loops.

Anonymous said...

Too far and too much $. So long major zones, I can have just as much fun here in H Town,,,,,,, provider that dude Reader doesn't show up.

Anonymous said...

Raeder, where does all the agression come from?

Anonymous said...

Reader why don't you man up and play Open instead of playing pussy 5.0 which never has a draw worth a crap?

I mean come on Abilene had just three players in 5.0 and one guy withdrew cause of injury. Play Open and lets see how you do for the year.

Anonymous said...

Who are the 4.5 sandbaggers that can beat Vargus? Also, how did Vargus make his way down to 4.0?

Anonymous said...

Hint * Lose to 4.0 rated players in tournaments, but for sure in leagues because for some reason the computer will always bump you down if you lose league matches to lesser ranked players.

Anonymous said...

Let's call out some 4.5 sandbaggers who are actually playing 4.0.

Anonymous said...

can't wait to play dugas bros in the qtrs at sapta . my guess is they lose first rd. if not i will be sure to implant penn 4 on both bros. pricks!

Anonymous said...

Who do you think would win if the Dugas brothers faced the Bryan brothers?

Anonymous said...

I can beat both dugas bros at the same time, and have done so many times in practice.

Anonymous said...

Pick for SAPTA major zone-

Men's Open - Adrian Valdez
Men's 5.0 - Thomas Reader
Men's 4.5 - Mario Gloria
Men's 4.0 - Tuyen Nguyen
Men's 3.5 - Ron Whitson

Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

Pick for SAPTA major zone:

4.5 Dbls- Dugas bros, NOT

Anonymous said...

Watch out, P. Zavala in 5.0 draw can easily make it to the final and give Reader a very tough match.

Anonymous said...

God of tennis, can you teach how to hit a forehand like Nadal?

Anonymous said...

Reader is too weak for open level but too strong for 5.0. What level should he play?

Anonymous said...

Reader, yes, you did beat Moser 6-0, 6-1. But why are you now trashing him? Moser is a nice guy. Why would you call him all those names? What ever happened to respecting our opponents and sportsmanship??

Anonymous said...

You got to be kidding me. ‘Moser is a nice guy’. That SOB tried to take my head off on a wimpy return by my partner in doubles. The ball bounced off my frame and hit me in the throat. Instead of apologizing for tagging me he just called out the score 15-love. What a dickhead.

Anonymous said...

Foad, Moser has tagged lots of people in the head, throat, face, you name it. I dont know what his problem is.

Mr. Moser-Tagged-Me-Too!

Anonymous said...

I have never practiced with either of the Dugas brothers. Nice try you anonymous, probably-unemployed loser.

Anonymous said...

And on that same note, I can beat anyone on this board if only more Houston courts had the right net height, court geometry, and wind screens.

Anonymous said...

What's with all the trash I seem to be talking the last couple of days? Must be posting in my sleep.

Anonymous said...

Moser's a cool dude. he's playing more tennis then anyone, because he loves the sport. i played him a few times and each time, he was very respectful. the arrogant one is that sarosh dude.

Anonymous said...

I can show you the Nadal forehand.

It is a great weapon if you master it, however there is the problem; I have come to the realization that most of the pathetic soles in Houston are not worthy of such a weapon and don't have fortitude of controlling such an advanced stroke. So therefore, I can give you some simple instruction, however I will now be able to teacher you.

Good Luck, and drop your offering in the mail.

By the way, that Snapper Head Reader, still owes me money from the last lesson I gave him.

Cheap Bastard!

Anonymous said...

GoT, you are one funny dude.

Anonymous said...

Thank you GOT, oops I mean anonymous. I am glad I, oops I mean you, commented on how funny I am. Basically, I say the same things in the same way Lord of Strings would say them, but I say them about him...which makes it entirely different. I am glad I, oops I mean you, like me. I will keep it coming.

Anonymous said...

GoT, I didn't say I like you. I said you are one funny dude.

Anonymous said...

JM how about starting a new thread so we can put an end to this silence.

Anonymous said...

how about Lost forest tourney

Anonymous said...

Unless the tournament directors of smaller tourneys put some kind of incentive to play 100 pts tournaments (ex: cash prizes for 1st & 2nd place winners), I don't think they will last much longer. Although Lost Forest tourney is an exception to the rules because it has 164 players signed up.

Anonymous said...

Arya once again signed up for Open at Lost Forest. Why oh why. Any takers Arya will lose first round once again?

Why don't you play 4.5 Arya? Is there too much pressure on you if you lose your first round match at 4.5?

Anonymous said...

Oh let him play and lose 1st round already. Who cares, I certainly don't!

Anonymous said...

My friend Reader knows who his God is, as I have taught him many things. And junior knows what I'm talking about. That is all that matters. You underlings don’t need to know who I am, you wouldn’t understand, your still stuck in 3.0 mode. I enjoy watching you pathetic worshipers of that fat sack run around and ass kiss. I’m here to tell you that on my team there is no ass kissing allowed,,,,, I know I’m great and there is no need for you to tell me,,,,,, I already know.

And to each of you slugs that keep posting under my title. I'm not interested in your petty squabbles or your rhymes or riddles; I'm only here to show you a new path, away from the student and toward the real Master.

GOD of TENNIS has spoken.

I've known Reader for some time in San Antonio, and I can honestly tell you, he sucks his own fruit loop!!!

Anonymous said...

BAM! Now that's what the f--k I'm talking about!

Anonymous said...

God of Tennis you just got owned!

Anonymous said...

Hey at least God of Tennis got a spell check on his computer! I also like how he tries to call Reader out to try to look like a bad ass. I think it's confirmed that the so called God of Tennis is not only a massive tool, but is completely out classes by Reader as well. I used to be on his 5.0 league team awhile back and if you can get passed the bull ring and the long hair,he's a very cool motherfu-ker.

Anonymous said...

I meant to say out "classed" great, now I'm spelling like the God of Tennis.

Anonymous said...

Good luck to everyone this weekend in SAPTA MZ tourney.

O.k the truth is, I've never actually beaten Reader. I just thought it would be funny to get a rise out of the guy. And yes I finally did get a spell check on my computer thank you very much! But I'm sorry if my comments offended you LOTS. I'm just a 3.0 player that thought he'd have some fun.
