What's it take to get a seed these days?

Looks like final competitor list are up now for Corpus since the seeds are already posted. Right off the bat it stands out that the 5.0s are once again getting screwed because of the small draw sizes. Herb Morton & Reggie Black get the only 2 seeds since there are only 7 players, leaving Tim Green and Joe Schornick out in the cold. Based on his history, Tim Green should be the top seed though I know he does not currently have the points. Does anyone know how many seeds the computer spits out per 8 spots in the draw? Based on the 5.0s it is 2. Based on the 4.5 and 4.0 draws it is only 1 per 8. I think tournament directors need to either be willing to add additional seeds based on knowledge of players or perhaps go to masters-cup round robin format for Major Zone draws of 8 or less. 5.0 tournament tennis is doomed to never grow in terms of draw sizes as long as the draws keep working out this way. 4.5 is a bit better as there are 26 guys signed up and thus 4 seeds. Even here I would say the seeds should be extended to at least 6 to catch a couple of other guys that are ranked right around the top 10 and basically one or two spots behind the #4 seed. This way, those guys at least get one of the 1st round byes and perhaps don't have to waste a full day of vacation to get down to Corpus for a Friday morning match. Maybe I am wrong but it seemed to me that in the past, tournament directors had discretion to increase the number of seeds regardless of the draw size. I don't see what is wrong with having 2 seeds for every 8 spots, meaning there should be 8 seeds for the 4.5s and up to 16 seeds for the 4.0s. In the atp, there are 32 seeds in the Grand Slam draws of 128 so 1 for every 4. Even here at River Oaks, there were 8 seeds for a 32 draw. That is the fair ratio if you ask me.

Here's my pick for the winners:

Men 5.0 Singles - Tim Green
Men 4.5 Singles - Alfonso Rodriguez
Men 4.0 Singles - Some local dude from Corpus Christi
Men 3.5 Singles - Who cares

What about open? Here's my revised seeding:

1. Ned Boone
2. Jorge Bouffier
3. Adrian Valdez
4. Marco Valdez

Ned rolled through everyone at SAPTA clay courts. Adrian has not been in top form lately, and was beaten by Bouffier in Abilene and Markes in Houston.

Rodriguez seems a gimme in 4.5, I don't see anyone challenging him there. Solis did give him a somewhat surprising 3-setter in Houston, but I don't see Rodriguez letting that happen again, especially as he won't have to face anyone of Gruno's caliber to tire him out first.

So my revised seeds for 4.5:

1. Alfonso Rodrigez
2. Leonardo Solis
3. Jacob Casas
4. Greg Schmucker

It seems that Houston did a much better job of seeding than Corpus Christie. I guess Corpus is just going by the points rather than looking up the credentials of some of the people.

this just in: Kallus could win womens 3.5 in Corpus

Anonymous said...

you guys need to lay off Kallus because there is no way he could win the womens 3.5

Anonymous said...

I believe you are wrong about Danny. I think he would be very competitve in the nw3.5 as long as the wind does not blow that much

Anonymous said...

You guys are bunch of ruthless SOBs. I like that.

Anonymous said...

Danny kind of brings it on himself. He used to be a real fatass now he is just FAT. Play on tennis boys.

If you want to post about league tennis, keep it off here. Go to the league blog.

Anonymous said...

Because Foad sucks, he would never play unless there is a line 4 singles.

Anonymous said...

Foad is just an average 4.0 according to everyone on here. And honestly, he cannot win a tourney in 4.0, so why would a summer league captain jump through hoops for him?

Anonymous said...

OK Sa-roach you can go back to your league blog and stop insulting Foad.

Anonymous said...

Could someone explain the history of animosity between Sarosh and Foad please.

Anonymous said...

^^ and a serious answer please. Not something like he slept with someone's mom or something in that nature.

This is not Sarosh. And i have played Foad a few times way back when. Foad is an average 4.0 because he is intimidated by the players that are potentially better than him. He is similar to Kallus when it comes to tennis: if he knows the player has a better record than him, or is better than he. He is beat before he walks on the court. Both Foad and Kallus would win a lot more matches if they had some confidence in their games.

Anonymous said...

its hard to have any confidence when you look like Kallus. Danny is a used car salesman managing mutual funds.

Anonymous said...

Dude, give poor Kallus a break man. What's up with all this hate anyways? It gets pretty boring, pretty fast. Chill out man!

Danial stop voting for Greg. Greg would be lucky to beat Goldberg.

by the way, still waiting for a name from the spineless asshole referring to me as white trash. you talk like someone who thinks hes a real bad ass.my name is thomas reader, i live in a very small town called centerpoint so im not hard to find.as for you mr.anonypussy, how about your name and location so ill know just who im beating the fuck out of.and believe me,after your comments, thats most likely in your near future, if you even have the balls to step up like a man and put a name behind your gutless insults.any questions?

Someone needs some meds, and I am not referencing illegal meds.

Anonymous said...

i know some people need to post "anonymous"for work reasons.but no one thought about my "work" when they made references to illegal drug use did they?and its the guys that seem to talk the most shit that ironically leave the anonymous bullshit. by the way, anyone coming forward with the white trash comment? i didnt think so.

Anonymous said...

Thats because here in Houston all we do is bash and hate each other. Too much jealousy and envy who can beat who........etc. Funny how the Dallas and Austin blogs are not anything like this one.

Really sad down here in Houston.

Oh lord.

This blog has hit a new low.

Anonymous said...

What are you talking about? This blog has always sucked. Does that surprise you?

Anonymous said...

When the Lord speaks, we all listen.

Anonymous said...

" Greg would be lucky to beat Goldberg".
Was that supposed to be a compliment or a rip on me?
I'm guessing a rip on me since we don't do much complimenting on here.

Anonymous said...

Okay Foad, quit sucking up to Reader

Anonymous said...

How about we change Reader's name to "Lord of the Mediocrity". That's right. Think about it. This fat, nasty, trash-mouth is one of the best 5.0 players in Texas. What does that say about the 4.5 and 5.0 players in Texas. They are mediocre at best and fat ass is the Lord of the Mediocres.

You know, at least the top open guys are class acts.

Learn some class Reader.

If everyone were as nice as C. Leach, the tennis world would be a better place!

Anonymous said...

The roach is back!

Anonymous said...

That dude not only makes sense, but seems to have the balls and the game to back it up!

Anonymous said...

We've established Goldberg sucks, the question us girls want to know is if he spits or swallows?

Anonymous said...

Why do all the people insulting Reader always remain anonymous? I honestly think your afraid if you put your REAL name,he might just beat the shit out of you. Probably on the tennis court too. I saw him play a very good asian guy in the semis of the Gallery Furniture tournament, and Reader won in two tough sets. He also called two serves in that were out by inches,so i didnt see any cheating either. Just calling it like i saw it.

Anonymous said...

I got my reasons for remaining anonymous none of which has anything to do of being afraid to fight a fat tub of lard Honestly, you wouldnt have a chance in hell against me Reader in a fight. Also, I would not be interested in fighting anyone anyway.

And you did cheat big time fat ass when you played me. You are a known cheater.

Lord of the strings, is Karen your transvestite name?

Anonymous said...

Yeah this blog really sucks I agree. So much name calling..........Hell half the people that post on here must think they are still in Junior High some of the crap they write.

My friend hates tennis because he thinks its all ego. After reading the crap on here I tend to agree with him.

Anonymous said...

It does seem to be degrading again quite a bit but I will let it be cause I have seen the Austin and Dallas blogs and no offense to either cause they are run by really good guys but they are rather boring. Kinda like a Amish version of a tennis blog in comparison to the crap you guys write. But I much prefer reading your crap than a bunch of guys being insincerely polite to each other. I will also point out why certain people get singled out for the stupidist comments such as the most recent directed at Goldberg. Weak.

Anonymous said...

Journeyman,

In the past I would have agreed with you about the Austin and Dallas blogs being boring in comparison to the stuff that gets posted here but now I think the tide has turned. This Blog has become the boring Blog and it is turning into a joke.

No offense, but this Blog is reflecting very negatively on you right now and for those of us who know who you are we expect a little more (not much, but a little).

I want this Blog to stay edgy and active but the only reason people come here over and over (why your numbers are inflated) is to see what nasty things are being said about the same people with no intension of ever posting under anything but anonymously.

This Blog will continue to lose contributors unless something is done to restore some decency.

Anonymous said...

Goldberg is a cool dude and a good tennis player. Those comments about him are horrible and disgusting. Shame on whoever wrote that.

Anonymous said...

Journeyman,

I too agree the tide has turned. This Blog has become the “Boring Blog” and it has turned into a joke. You constantly advocate hate and name calling in this blog, but stuff like that become boring and down right disgusting over time. You don’t want to police the crap that is written in this blog, well then wait and see how soon the ratings are going to go down!

Anonymous said...

There is a major zone this week and this Blog is dead. I guess the real point of this Blog is to bash folks and not discuss tournament tennis.

Anonymous said...

Everyone has gone either practicing for this tourney or fishing!

Worst BLOG

Anonymous said...

my apologies to Kallus. Looks like he will win his first round match after all. Looks like he plays Bye.

Hey journeyman, how bout starting a new discussion?
