Sectionals...Take Two.

You want a new sectionals blog, you got it. I am not going to comment this time around. Feel free to look at my comments from a couple posts ago. I am not sure who will still even be there this time around and I believe some of the draw match ups have already changed as well. In any case, I wish everyone a great tournament.

I think sectionals is going to be taken by a unseeded player on all levels.

Anonymous said...

I think that is a very fair prediction. I've been around awhile, and know quite a few of the players from 4.0-open divisions. Nice prediction. Any arguments?

Anonymous said...

Nah, I'm going with little Daniel Omana in the Men's Open. With that bad ass LOTS aka Thomas Reader in 5.0s and Alejandro Sanchez in 4.5s. 4.0s & 3.5s is anyone's guess.

Anonymous said...

My bad before anyone jumps on my ass, Daniel Omana withdrew from the Sectionals so I guess I go with the animal "Adrian Valdez".

Anonymous said...

open adrian V ,4.0 ismael dutchover or roger osorio,3.5 Enrique molina, scott alpard, or william koziol.

Anonymous said...

What happen with Arya in Houston down 6-0 and quitting against Garg? I know this post is suppose to be about Sectionals, but I thought I would ask anyways.

Anonymous said...

Why is Reginald Black Seeded ahead of Smith or Garg in the 5.0 Draw. Tournament directors can seed the draw based on how they think the tournament will play out. Reggie black will not get passed his first match verse Smith. Smith hasent lost a match in 5.0 all year with two major zone wins. The winner of teh smith Garg semi will win sectionals in my opinion. Your Thoughts?

Anonymous said...

With No. 1 3.5 seed Carlos Campos having withdrawn from sectionals, who will come out of his bracket into the quarters?

Anonymous said...

Arya always quit. he's a quitter.

Anonymous said...

3.5 is anyone's guess

Anonymous said...

My question is Knutson going to make it far in Sectionals or is he going to choke this weekend and miss his opportunity to make it into Masters.

Anonymous said...

I'll second that Arya comment. He is definitely a quitter. Poor guy has got to grow some balls.

Anonymous said...

First of all the score was reported incorrectly. It was 4-0 when Arya quit. Second, Garg was questioning every out ball Arya was making and it must have became very annoying to Arya to quit after 4 games.

Anonymous said...

thats hilarious! we have someone defending arya for quitting a match because his line calls were questioned? he QUIT. you can't be a winner if you dont play. and most of us who know Garg is a class act on and off the court so as far as credibility goes, I think there's no doubts. who cares what the score was--it should have been reported 6-0, 6-0

Anonymous said...

Hold on here--so Arya is blaming his loss on Amit Garg's questioning of his line calls? That's gotta be a first. Please tell me it isnt.

Anonymous said...

I'm not defending anyone. I'm just stating the chain of events that occurred during their match.

Anonymous said...

what chain of events? that he was getting his ass kicked or that he quit? those are the only two events. you said "he must have been annoyed that his calls were being questioned..." that sounds like a defense. but ok--ill take your word. i just know arya too well to know that he's a quitter and against someone as nice as Garg it had to be something stupid.

Anonymous said...

arya should not be playing open anyways. more like 4.0-4.5 realistically. knutson may surprise some people this sectionals- as he can play without pressure since he's really not expected to do damage

arya m. said...

Being told to "grow some balls" by Mr. Anonymous. Is'nt that an irony in itself :)

I walked into that match feeling I had a good chance. I felt like I was turning the tide on a tough injury riddled year. I based that on the fact that Nico Hediari had easily taken Garg at Lost Forrest tournament 6-0, 6-1 and I had some tight matches with Nico in the prior 3 weeks and was feeling good about my chances.

I am a slow starter and being down early in a match does not bother me a bit. I win most of my matches down early in the first set. My match against Womack last year in Fort Worth MZ, I was down 1-6, 2-5, 15-40 and came back and won the 2nd 21-19 in tie breaker facing 11 match points and won the 3rd 6-1. So, clearly, it is not a lack of "balls" that got me to walk off that match.

It is really nobody's business besides myself and Garg what happended in that match. The match ended with me down 0-4 and up a breakpoint on his serve. Score was misreported and that does tick me off a bit. I can only hope that was not intentional. I walked off and I do not have regrets about it. It was the right thing to do given the cirumstances.

Anonymous said...

Arya,
you are not an open player! period. if you're losing, play it out like a man. you have no chance playing in open, 5.0, nor 4.5.

Anonymous said...

Open--Jorge Bouffier over Dickson Ogu
5.0--LOTS #8 over Brian Smith in 3 sets in a moderate upset. There's almost a 100% chance that these 2 will face each other in the finals, both are head & shoulders above everyone else in the draw.
4.5--Alejandro over somebody unseeded in the finals, maybe David DeHoyos if he's been practicing.

arya, play your own league, like 4.0 or max 4.5. you are not an open level or 5.0 level player. its tough to lose and not make excuses. walking off the court makes you a bigger loser than staying on the court and losing 60 60 which would not really be surprising for you against a good open player.

Anonymous said...

Pedro Ruiz will take 3.5 EASILY, and go on to win the masters. He will challenge for the top spot in 4.0 next year. The speed at which this kid is improving is amazing. Still rough in some areas, but dont be surprised to see him breeze through 4.0 next year, and make some noise at the 4.5 level in a year or two.

Anonymous said...

Arya why don't you just play 4.5 and have fun? Maybe you feel playing 4.5 instead of Open is an ego thing, but you look at your overall record in Open. Its not looking too good. Swallow your pride and play 4.5 and have some fun. Who cares what other players think.

Anonymous said...

Confucious say: "Those who let racquet do the talking don't put foot in their mouth"

Learn from your mistakes Arya, rather than dwell on them. Think about it.

Anonymous said...

Arya, you can probably guess who I am--I was watching your match from the bench across from yours and I saw everything. First of all, Garg was about as considerate as someone could be given the fact that your calls were overturned by the line judge--essentially proving that your calls were suspect. It was obvious that you were losing badly and in front of your buddies so you quit to save face and made a fool of yourself. The guys watching that match werent the least bit impressed with you. Sorry to say, you were clearly in the wrong. And by the way, good job for having a good tourney Amit.

Anonymous said...

"Pedro Ruiz" will dominate 4.0s & 4.5s in the near future. My only question is "Pedro Who?"

Anonymous said...

Where has trautmann disappeared to? Where is LOTS?

Anonymous said...

Pedro is a high 3.5 player....anon you could of just look him up..

Anonymous said...

LOL high 3.5 player-

Anonymous said...

Don't make fun of "Pedro". He's my friend.

Anonymous said...

Laugh all you want about "high" 3.5 player. That is really just another way of saying he is better than 3.5. Until you play him and beat him, you shouldn't be laughing, you should be watching over your shoulder because he is gaining on you fast.

Anonymous said...

Journeyman make a ruling, from now on NO 3.5s are allowed to write a comment in this blog.

Anonymous said...

Arya you signed up for Open at Lost Forest. Why? Call the TD and move over to 4.5 because this is what is going to happen. First round you will lose then you will not show up the next day to play consolation. I watched your match against Amit and you are too slow on the court to play Open.

Anonymous said...

We, in 3.5, would welcome Arya

Anonymous said...

Pedro for president

Michael said...

Yeah! no more 3.5's allowed to blog here. Oooops...

Anonymous said...

Welcome to 3.5's Arya! We have a great group of guys, all friendly and competitive as well.

Anonymous said...

Who would win doubles at 4.5, 4.0,and 3.5 in sectionals.

Anonymous said...

I too saw some of Arya's and Amit's match. I am not sure what was going on, but Arya is a class act. He would never purposely give anyone a bad call. Amit was questioning nearly every call at the end. I did see one serve that was clearly a let (when Amit was serving) and hit inside the service box. Amit asked if it was in or out. Arya said it was in (which it appeared to be), but Amit acted like the point was over! He did not take two and instead walked over to change sides. Either Amit has a eye problem or some sort of mental gaming was going on here. Either way, it is unusual for Arya to walk off the court. The guy is just not a quitter.

arya m. said...

I know who I am and I know what I am capable of. I've played maybe 5 matches all year long due to injuries and business. My results this year reflect this. But I am determined to practice and play more.

In last 3 years, in Open, I made it to 3 MZ quarters, 1 MZ semis , won an Open tournament and won many consolation finals. What I need right now is more match play and more negative people like yourselves telling me that I can't do it ... thanks for this since it will only have the opposite effect that you all desire :)

Anonymous said...

Get over it Arya, for the sake of this blog. Here's a little secret: people dont care that much. Its just a match. Move on. Nobody hates you. Just keep your head up and keep having fun!

Anonymous said...

At-a-boy Arya! After a few matches under your belt, I bet Nadal would cringe!

Anonymous said...

I will tell you, it takes more balls to play up and lose than it does to sandbag and play down just so you can win consistently. what's wrong with playing up and trying to improve your game?

Anonymous said...

i think it could be an unseeded doubles team that wins sectionals in the 4.5 draw.

Anonymous said...

Leave Arya alone. He's my friend.

Anonymous said...

We, in 3.5, would welcome Amit.

Anonymous said...

Hey leave Amit alone too. He's my friend.

Anonymous said...

since arya signed up for lost forest, I bet he won't win a tourney this small. what a loser!

arya m. said...

OK, I tried to be nice and rational to a bunch of ignorant, uneducated, permanently tennis handicapped idiots. My fault. So, you want to give me advice you morons, here are the minimum required qualifications:

1. Sign in as your real selves

2. Have at least made it to ONE OPEN LEVEL MEN's SINGLES MAJOR ZONE Quarter finals. I've made it to FOUR!

OOOPS, I guess both 1 and 2 disqualify EVERYONE on this board so keep your advice to yourselves.

Have a nice day.

Anonymous said...

is he about to blow a gasket?

Anonymous said...

Arya I play Open and I will be the first to tell you that you are not an Open player by any stretch. Just check your Open record for the last few years. Your losses outnumber your wins so that should tell you something. Also you are rated 4.5 so do yourself a favor and play 4.5.

You know you are not an Open player when:

You are too slow on the court
You have no serve
90% of the time you lose in the first round

The one Open tournament you won was Northgate and it was a bunch of crappy players. Big Deal. Let me ask you this. Have you ever WON a Major Zone? Nope you sure haven't.

Sorry, but players with ego's that feel they should be playing higher levels just annoy me. Your statement, "I play Open to work on my game...etc" sounds real logical especially when you lose in then first round.

JourneyMan please list a poll for Lost Forest if Arya will win his first round. I will bet he will not or will not show up.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you brotha. it's cool to maybe play a level above, when the draw is too small or you want to challenge yourself, because you have a chance of winning the whole thing. but playing open at all your tourneys, when you are really a 3.5 is rude to the real open players.

Anonymous said...

honestly, my 12 year old daughter would beat Arya. She probably would drop 4 games or less.

Anonymous said...

who would win between sarosh and arya? i think sarosh may win in a tight one.

Anonymous said...

saroach would kick his ass. he has a much more well rounded game that arya. arya is not a strong 4.5 but rather a mid 4.0, low 4.5

Anonymous said...

I have heard that Arya usually beats him. Arya has a much better game than that slicer and dicer.

Anonymous said...

hard to believe that arya would beat sarosh.

Anonymous said...

Sarosh is a mid-4.5 player. his record maybe impressive in 4.0, but he gets whooped in 4.5.

Anonymous said...

i dont know who the fcuk this Arya character is but for him to say things like

"OK, I tried to be nice and rational to a bunch of ignorant, uneducated, permanently tennis handicapped idiots."

he must be a complete and total dumbfuck. there is no way this guy is a good tennis player, or even a good person. he has the intelligence and mental capacity of a 5 year old.

arya,

With that said if you can move to Dallas and work on getting that rating to 4.0 we would love to have you.

Anonymous said...

The 4.5 draw is about the worst I've ever seen in a major zone with all of the withdrawals. A lot of people will be pissed when several undeserving players get 300+ points from this. Next time maybe they should just cancel the tourney.

Anonymous said...

Amit lost to Brian Smith 6-3, 6-4 in Sectionals Congrats Amit. I'm a 5.0 player and Brian has beaten me worse than that all 3 times I have played him. That's a good showing against him. I've never seen you play but you belong in the 5.0's just based on that match alone, forget about what these guys are saying.

JB

Anonymous said...

dont think there is any doubt that people in Houston know Amit is a 5.0/Open level player. Smith is a good Open player, no doubt.

Anonymous said...

Ask Arya what he thinks of Amit. Garg is a stand up guy and is a nice guy on the court. I am glad he was killing Arya before he quit. Guess Arya didn't want the double bagel on his awesome record.

Anonymous said...

Amit is one of the coolest dude i know. eventhough he's a doctor, he doesn't let that get to his head. arya is really a jerk. this guy quits or does not show up all the time.

Anonymous said...

I guess we were wrong about a lot of the predictions for sectionals except for adrian the only one I got right.

Anonymous said...

congrats to all the winners at sectionals!

Anonymous said...

In the sectionals, what stood out in men's 4.5 was Jacob Casas cheating unashamedly!! He was actually bizzare in some of the things he argued about, and some calls he made. I am glad he still lost in the first round to Vikrant Gandhi, and even in the consolations to Alejandro Sanchez..

Anonymous said...

I think the points from last year's Masters tournament should not count for this year's Master tournament. Points to qualify for Masters should be from YTD

Anonymous said...

Talk about cheating. Zheng.

Anonymous said...

I guess as you advance from 3.5s to 4.0s and then 4.5s & 5.0s & Open the level of cheating also advances. Some of it is pure gamesmanship and others are just blatant cheating. What’s your take on this?

Anonymous said...

"I think the points from last year's Masters tournament should not count for this year's Master tournament. Points to qualify for Masters should be from YTD"

No Kidding! What a joke.

I totally agree with the previous blogger, but rules are rules and therefore should be followed.

This relentless arya tennis bashing has peaked my interest. So what is the truth? I'm no friend of the man and barely know him but he was nice enough to warm me up before my match once eventhough he was dead tired after his match.

I play 4.5 and have seen arya in a few tournements and his game is erratic but definitely Open level in my opinion. I looked up his record. He does have wins over people we know like Odion and McMullan(how many of us can say that?). He did go 3,3 with Brian Smith (not much different than Amit). I saw him at least twice at Memorical Park play Sorosh and it was'nt even close, like 2,0 or something. His record is distorted because of a ton of defaults and no shows so you cant look at that. He did make it to 4 major zone quarter finals or better as he claims (that checks out). He openly admitted that he has been injured most of the year and has not practiced so that explains his poor showing in '08.

Also, I Googled the guy. Someone said Amit was a doctor. That is great. Arya is a PhD in engineering from Rice university. I think that takes a lot more gray stuff than a doctor. So, the guy is no dummy either.

Anonymous said...

whoever posted that above seriously needs to get a life. when we are talking about tennis, then stick to tennis. doing an investigation into people's backgrounds on a recreational tennis blog is almost moronic. get a life! i bet its Arya who is feeding that B.S. to you. Why are you comparing the two. Amit beat Arya badly, just as most would predict. There is a big difference in theyre tennis games. And as far as behaviour, Arya has made a fool of himself so many times, the recent one no exception. Get over it Arya-move on. No one hates you. But at the same time, you're kind of an idiot for telling people they are uneducated and dumb when in fact you act like a absolute moron on and off the court. It doesnt matter what degrees you have, you have an F at tennis ettiquette and a D at best at tennis.

Anonymous said...

I am a 5.0 rated and play Open tennis and good friends with Arya. We play regularly. All I can say is from practice matches. In practice matches, he is OPEN player no question. Never seen him play tournaments. Played once together but I was playing when he was playing. Maybe he needs to play like in practice match!

Anonymous said...

Hey I say it again, lay off Arya. He's my friend. PS: Amit is my friend too.

Anonymous said...

Ive known arya for a looong time even though we dont talk--he plays well sometimes, but he is NOT an OPEN player. Just because you are friends with him doesnt mean he is an open player. He couldnt beat any of the top 5.0 players like Reader, Green, Manalo, Gound, Garg, Smith. He would have a good match with Foad and Sarosh. Those are the facts.

Anonymous said...

I have played Arya several times. In the past he has been very consistent and hits some heavy top spin shots. He seems to tighten up some in tournament play, however. As for his manners, he has always been very polite and is a class act. I have never experienced any missed line calls with him.

Anonymous said...

arya-hater: why dont you tell us who you are? why you so passionaltely hate arya? are you gay and arya rejected you? this is too funny. never seen someone so mad at someone playing open level!

i apologize for arya to arya-hater for playing open level. weird!

Anonymous said...

tight match with foad and sorosh? how can I take your post seriously. Dude, I SAW him with my own eyes play sorosh not once but twice in memorial park. i was playing two courts down from the guy. As I said, it WAS NOT close. that means arya won easily since you are hard of understanding. foad couldnt win a game off him. you are nuts.

Anonymous said...

Thanks man. I second that.

Anonymous said...

Lets get real here, we are all just different degrees of crappy tennis players. If we werent, we would be playing in the Madrid Masters right now. So, why are we arguing about different degrees of crappiness? All of us playing tennis tournaments for free are playing unpaid because we SUCK! imaging working for no pay.

Anonymous said...

I'm gone throw my two-cents in here. I guess I fit in the I have played/I have watched play Arya catagory. My honest description: I think he has near perfect technical strokes but can't pull it together in a match. I mean, his one handed topspin backhand, when the ball at the right spot, is just freaking perfect and beautiful stroke to watch. Forehand: borrowing from another guy here, very heavy spin, heavy stroke, but not consistent. Needs to learn to flatten out some. Serve: OK, nothing special. Volleys: never seen him hit it.

To be honest, he beat me bad but that was some time ago and I was going to his backhand the whole time which was stupid. I think I can play him much more competitively now.

Anonymous said...

ill second that one. tightens up in matches, poor mental game.

Anonymous said...

Arya-hater? i dont hate arya, in fact i've never met him personally, but i have seen him play twice, once in houston and once awhile back. also, i heard his point of view from this blog. putting those two together, i think he is a weak character and thus a weak player. nuff said.

Anonymous said...

Arya Hater, I think you are the weak one here. Arya identified himself when he blogged. He said some mean things the 3rd time that he blogged but he still identified himself. What about you? You never identified yourself. That makes you the "weak character". Also, if Arya has really beaten Odion in a USTA tournament (i have not had a chance to check for myself), he can't be that bad. Odion has kicked my ass and I did not even have a fucking chance. I am 4.5 rated.

Anonymous said...

arya HAS beaten Odion in a 3-setter in the open draw in college station. I checked it.

Anonymous said...

Yes I am posting anonymous I guess that makes me a pussy too. But I have my reasons.

Believe it or not I read all the blogs. I do have a degree in psychology. There is only one single conclusion to all this "arya-hating" as it has been called. I think there are a couple of real jealous guys here on this board who are simply just jealous of Arya for whatever reason.

Anonymous said...

here is my guess at the list of the losers who are doing all the hating:
1. Sarosh

Hey everybody,
A friend just made me aware of all this ruckus on this thread.

First, I want to apologize for the 3rd blog that I wrote. Clearly it has ruffled some feathers. I was very upset over my playing and a few here were pouring salt into an open wound. I reacted badly and made some unfair generalizations.

Things have gone way too far and have been taken way too seriously. We are all a tennis community here and all share the love of tennis in common. So, lets build on that commonality instead of trading insults.

To the friends/bloggers that went out of their way to defend me, thank you very much but not necessary. It clearly aggravated things even further.

I hope this apology puts an end to this non-productive set of exchanges and the thread can return to talking about tennis.
