Enuff! San Antonio Time

Hey. I haven't had a chance to dig into the San Antonio major this weekend, if I do I will come back with predictions. I will say this. I do not pick Mario Gloria to win 4.5. I guess that is a start. Main point of the new post is just to refresh the comment string and give LOTS and the new-to-the-scene-and-I-for-one-am-not-very-impressed-yet GOT a fresh thread for slamming each other. Good luck to you crazy fools still spending your loot to fund USTA's misguided tournament efforts. I would join you if I could.

Follow Up (10 minutes later): Just looked at the draws, I guess Mario Gloria is the favorite to win 4.5. Scott Sevin the #1 seed...w0w, not a high point for the SA tournament. I have always thought of him as the Kallus of Austin. Plays a ton of tournaments, decent guy to talk to off the courts, can hang with lesser players, but definitely not one to fear in 4.5s. Maybe I am wrong. Here is a chance to prove it cause losing in straight sets to Moser in Abilene didn't help Scott's case. 5.0 - Congrats Reader on another 5.0 victory. Maybe Sanchez can breathe some new life into 5.0. 4.0 - at least the draw is big, 65 players, so there is a winner in there somewhere.

Gloria gone so much for those predictions, as for me i like pacheco and fonger in finals

Anonymous said...

Good luck to Houston's Wayne Morgan in the finals in San Antonio.

Anonymous said...

Surprisingly Reader did not win San Antonio. He lost in straight sets to Sanchez.

Reefer Madness!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

That Reader,,,,,,, he is as washed up as my sweety 2 week old gym socks.
I'm starting to think that God of Tennis is correct!!!!!
We need to go with a winner.

Cheap booty at 210 797-0090!
Get it while it last!

Anonymous said...

Alejandro Sanchez!!! Who would have thunk it? Not I, I didn't give him a chance against Reader, especially with 2 three setters in the first 2 rounds and free keg of beer tapped and iced starting at 8am. I guess Alejandro came with a mission and with Brian Smith seemingly uninterested in defending his title and Garg moving up (or down?) to 30's, it looks like Sanchez is a real threat to the 5.0 title that we were all ready to hand over to Reader, and it's only FEBRUARY! He's definitely breathing life back into the 5.0's this year. I'm still a Reader fan, though, and I think Thomas will come through in the summer heat. Congrats also to Scott Sevin, getting that bad taste out of him mouth from Abilene and letting everyone know that he's a force to be reckoned with this year in the 4.5's.

Anonymous said...

Reader Schmeader....who cares... he's old news now. the new hero on this blog is A. Sanchez.

Anonymous said...

Why not Sevin as the new hero. Anyone who has played Sanchez knows he is a strong player. I am not surprised that he can hang with Reader, they come from the same crowd and he probably knows the Reader game pretty well. Sevin on the other hand was a 4.0 just a couple of years back and I do not believe he was a former junior stud like Reader, Green, Smith, and the like.

looks like Arya is going to lose the 1st rd. again at lost forest. don't this guy ever learn his lesson?

Anonymous said...

Moser the tallest player is going to play Brown, the smallest player, in the first round. the battle of david and goliath. brown wins, 6-2, 6-3.

Anonymous said...

I don't understand why some of the posters here pick on Arya when he plays Open. I know Arya is always looking to improve his game so he likes to play Open to work on his game. Is that bad? At least Arya is not sandbagging just to win a tournament. I practice with Arya and it sad that bloggers here keep whining about what level Arya should be playing. Why not sign up for Open and with luck play Arya in the first round. I would enjoy watching Arya make some of you eat your words.

Anonymous said...

BAM, now that's what I'm talking about.

Anonymous said...

'looks like Arya is going to lose the 1st rd. again at lost forest. don't this guy ever learn his lesson?' Looks like another Cockroach sighting.

Anonymous said...

it would be a miracle if Majed gets pass Bergmann. you will see pigs fly if he makes it to the semis.

Anonymous said...

Get off it dude. Let him go and play open. So waht if he loses in the first round?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know why A Valdez's opponent retired in the Finals of SAPTA?

Anonymous said...

Goldberg has been playing really well lately, I predict he will win the Lost Forest tourny.

Nah, he needs to get rid off that belly!

Any predictions for Men's Open this weekend at Lost Forest?

Anonymous said...

Hasker can win and lose to anyone in the open draw. If he keeps his focus, he will win easily.

Anonymous said...

A big hat off to Bill Sanders for going five 3-sets matches in consolation 4.0s in SAPTA MZ. Unfortunately the fifth match took the wind out of his sail as he lost it in the finals to Scott Russell 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

Anonymous said...

Michael Levan from St. Louis has a record of 20-1 in 2008. looks like the clear favorite in Men's op.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about Bill Sanders. Why doesn't he move up to 4.5 instead of hanging out in the 4.0's. Oh let me take a guess Sanders is afraid of losing in the 4.5's. WEAK!

Anonymous said...

Bill Sanders is in his 50’s dude. I don’t think he wants to play Men’s 4.5 anymore. Not bad for someone in his 50’s to go five, 3-set matches.

Anonymous said...

Any predictions on the Men's 4.0 side?

Anonymous said...

Sarosh will win the 4.0's my prediction.

Anonymous said...

correction: Sarosh will win the women's 4.0

Anonymous said...

How did Sarosh get bumped down to 4.0 again?

Anonymous said...

My pick for 4.5 singles is Schmucker. He has an amazing backhand.

Anonymous said...

Translation of that last post. "I am Greg Schmucker. I think I have an amazing backhand."

Anonymous said...

Nah, Greg Schmucker won't write about himself.

Anonymous said...

Then maybe it was his backhand posting for him.

Anonymous said...

This is his serve speaking. He has been preparing for the Lost Forest showdown for months after loosing in the first round at the last Lost Forest tournament.

Anonymous said...

Hey Schmucker Fan, let's form a Schmucker Fan club. Who wants to join? He is such a great guy.

RR

Anonymous said...

Nah, John Patch is gonna clean the house in 4.5s.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker's game has not evolved. he's just a baseliner with no angles and slices. move him up an down, not side to side and you will win the match. that's how knutson blew him away.

Anonymous said...

I saw Schmucker this past Monday at Memorial Park for leagues and I was impressed how well he is hitting the ball. He was slicing the ball and hit good angles wide to the forehand. Most impressive was his speed on the court. I think that is his weapon overall speed.

Morton was next to Schmucker on the other court looked pretty good to. Morton has one hell of a slice backhand. I sure would not want to hit that. Looks like it really bites into the court.

PC

Anonymous said...

Patchy is still gonna clean the house in 4.5s this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Now Schmucker's feet are chiming in with a comment about how fast they are. This is getting good. What's with the new practice of trying to make a post look like they are a legit observation from a third party by adding some phony initials at the end of the post? SG

Anonymous said...

The wind is already bothering me and the match is still two days away.

Signed, Kallus' mental fragility.

Anonymous said...

LOL, you dudes are cracking me up!

Anonymous said...

Patch and Salinas in the 4.5s finals

Anonymous said...

You guys are so brutal on Kallus and Schmucker. And when they don’t play, JM gets all nasty with them. To me it’s a no win situation!

Anonymous said...

I play in the HTA Leagues and I know Schmucker, Kallus, and Arya do not visit this site anymore. I mean why should they it's complete crap. I mean its all about bashing players on this blog. I hardly read anything on here that is positive. If anyone posts something positive about a player then the next 6 posts just bash that player.

What is the point? We should be supporting all the Houston players instead of writing crap about them all.

Anonymous said...

Give Jochen a break dude. I heard he has just broken up with Jonathon this past week and he is still hurt because Jonathon cheated on him.

Anonymous said...

Glad to see your still in high school with that last comment. You must of used your complete brain to come up with that. Congrats.

Anonymous said...

so who was the girl in that relationship?

Anonymous said...

There was no girl involved dude.

Anonymous said...

Hey Dugas Bros. I voted for you guys so you better come home with some 1st place trophies this weekend.

Anonymous said...

Who's more likely to lose in the first round, Kallus or Schmucker?

Anonymous said...

Who is more likely to show up for their match? That is the relevant first question before we start worrying about which one of them will lose...but that would be Kallus.

Anonymous said...

Tommy Sawaya will win 4.5. His shots sound great.

Anonymous said...

The forecast is sunny skies with hardly any wind. therefore kallus would do well over the weekend.

Anonymous said...

oops...correction. it's suppose to be real windy on fri and sat. looks like kallus to lose first round.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is a hit or miss. Good to see him playing again. Schmucker glad to see you back in tournaments again. For a local tournament the 4.5 division is quite interesting. Perhaps a semifinal with Kallus vs Patch and Schmucker vs Morton. Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

It sounds like a bunch of excuses but Kallus really is that hit or miss depending on conditions. I have seen the guy play great tennis and stay on the court for 3 plus hours without tiring one bit. I have also seen him lose in 30 minutes without keeping a rally going more than 3 hits...against the same opponent. Where's he been for the past few months? I thought he lived to waste his money living the dream of recreational tennis.

Anonymous said...

This is great the Lost Forest open finals will be played on Saturday and the semis on Sunday.

Anonymous said...

Good luck to everyone at Lost Forest this weekend.

Anonymous said...

What happened to the trash talker Knutson?

Where's that overhyped Sarosh?

Anonymous said...

Sarosh just checks the blog and writes crap about everyone. Sarosh since you think your the best tennis player in Houston then why didn't you play Lost Forest? I know you check the blog all the time.

Anonymous said...

Hasker lost in the second round in open.

Anonymous said...

all i can say was, it was horrible playing in that wind

Anonymous said...

Did anybody see any good matches this past weekend?

Do you think the wind on sat. affected some matches?

Anonymous said...

Terrible draw for the Houston 4.5 Boys (Schmucker, Kallus, Morton) at the Courtyard Classic tourney next weekend. The TD has put all of them in the top half of the draw. That sucks.

Anonymous said...

The wind was terrible at the Lost Forest Tournament over the weekend, but everyone had to deal with it so that couldn't be an excuse as to why someone didn't perform well.
Results:
Daniel Brown defeated Matthew Pierson in the Open Division, 4 & 4
John Patch defeated Herbert Morton 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the 4.5 final
4.5 Men's Doubles: The Dugas Brothers defeated Michael LeTan/Jason Rawls in the finals.

Anonymous said...

Great results for Herb this weekend. glad to see him back!

Anonymous said...

Congrats to all the winners of Lost Forest tourney.

Anonymous said...

Herb played great tennis this weekend. Ramirez never had a chance.

It will be interesting to see how he does at the Courtyard.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't matter that Schmucker, Kallus and Herb are in the top half. Both Schmucker and Kallus will lose their first round matches to non-Houston players.

Anonymous said...

I wonder why so many people signed up for doubles at Lost Forest ($20 per player, no consolation) but none for Lee Leclear ($10 per player, consolation).

Anonymous said...

JM, how come you got the picks for lost forest going until tomorrow? The tourney ended yesterday bub!

Anonymous said...

Courtyard Classic Picks -

Men's Open = Joegr Bouffier
Men's 5.0 = Jason Gound
Men's 4.5 = Jochen Moser
Men's 4.0 = Joseph Spacek
Men's 3.5 = Michael Getz

Anonymous said...

I partly agree to your comment regarding Kallus and Schmucker this weekend, but I think it will be Kallus that loses first round to Tatu. I think Schmucker will beat Sevin in the first round, but then would play Herb I believe in the next round. Weird how the 4.5 draw came out.

Tatu will drive Kallus crazy with his game thus Kallus will just give up. Schmucker I think will overpower Sevin with his game.

Speaking of Lost Forest there were some good matches.
Herb beating Gabriel 6-1 6-1. Herb played an awesome match and kept the pressure on Gabriel. Just blew him off the court. Goldbergs first round match was really good. Never seen Brian play better. Schmucker destroyed Jose who hit more drop shots than I have seen from anyone, but too many winners from Schmucker. Patch did enough to win his matches. Not for sure why it took John 2hrs 45min to beat Lou from Copperfield. Kallus looked good till Saturday with all the wind. Kudos to Kallus for staying in the match, but lost in the third to Lou. Moser lost in the semis of consolation in Open, but played well for having to slice his backhand because of a wrist injury.

All in all some good tennis this past weekend from all congrats.

Anonymous said...

If you have ever seen Lou from Copperfield play, you would understand why it took Patch so long. Lou is not flashy and will not blow anyone off the court, but that guy is super gritty and consistent.

Every match is a war with him.

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to Jason Rawls on his win over Mike Salinas in the 4.5 Cons Finals.

Not a bad tournament, Finals in 4.5 doubs and 4.5 cons win.

Anonymous said...

Quack Bui vs. John Patch. Who wins?

Anonymous said...

"Schmucker destroyed Jose who hit more drop shots than I have seen from anyone, but too many winners from Schmucker."

Who is Jose? It looks like Schmuker beat Roger and then lost to Rene.

Anonymous said...

'Quack Bui vs. John Patch. Who wins?'
That's a good one and I wouldn't mind seeing that one in person when it happens!

Anonymous said...

Yeah it was Roger not Jose sorry

Anonymous said...

I will be impressed if Moser can be Garcia in first round of Courtyard. Garcia played Morgan very well in SAPTA and match could have gone either way

Anonymous said...

For all you spell checkers out there

Anonymous said...

"too many winners from Schmucker" WTF? Schmucker lost to a guy who then lost to a guy who then lost to yet another guy.

Ramirez defeats Schmucker
Mortan defeats Ramirez
Patch defeats Morton

Anonymous said...

Match Ups, Match Ups, Match Ups baby. It's a crazy world in 4.5s. You never know who can beat who!

Anonymous said...

that was easy to predict. schmucker is not playing good enough to beat ramirez. morton is playing outstanding tennis to beat salinas, ramirez, and gabriel.

Anonymous said...

I watched the Rene/Schmucker match and it was pretty ugly. Schmucker was hitting forehand and backhand errors all over the place. Rene played smart just kept the ball in the court to let Schmucker make the errors. Good win for Rene.

Anonymous said...

The wind was brutal on Saturday. It felt more like Corpus Christi MZ than Lost Forest tourney!

Anonymous said...

JM, how about a 4.5 Houston Ranking?

Fall Fest being the equivalent to sectionals and counting 300 points, Coke counting 200 points, and all other tourneys in the greater Houston area counting 100 points. Best 5 results count.

2009 YTD Standing for Houston Results

1. Patch (100 pts)
2. Morton (75 pts)
3. Ramirez (60 pts)
3. Mategrano (60 pts)
5. - 8. Kallus, Goldberg, Gabriel, Schmucker (50 pts)

Anonymous said...

Interesting concept, however there is no more 'Coke’. Instead it's called 'Gallery Furniture’ and it's a 400 Pts. tourney. Houston Fall Festival is a 200 Pts. tourney.

Anonymous said...

This might be a shocker to you but Kallus actually beat Tatu the one time they played at the Berry Creek tournament, in straight sets at that. However, I think you are right that Tatu would be the victor in a rematch. Whatever Kallus did a few years back to pull off wins against Tatu, Green, Gound, etc., he definitely either forgot how to do it or is now too old to do it. Tatu in straights....that and Sevin beats Schmucker. Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

Tatu smatu,,,,,,, lets talk trash about that Snapper Head Reader Smeader. I wonder if he has gone through with his proposal to pull pleasure all the first round losers from Lost Forest?

Anonymous said...

That’s it, the next person that misspells a word,,,,, I’m going to rip you a new pie hole! I’m sick and tired of people writing in my blog who can’t spell! YOUR ASS IN MINE!!!!

By the way, did anyone catch Knight Rider last night,,,, I love that show.

Anonymous said...

Any predictions for the Hooters Open in SA this weekend? I wonder what the trophies look like.

Anonymous said...

I see a Morton vs Schmucker match in the second round at Courtyard. Too bad for them they both would have to play that early, but should be a great match between the two.

Anonymous said...

There is no way in heaven that Schmucker will beat the Scott Sevin of 2009.

Anonymous said...

Morton vs Schmucker would have been a great match, but unfortunately it will more likely be Morton vs Scott Sevin. The finals will be Moser vs Morton with Moser winning that battle in 3sets.

Anonymous said...

Don't underestimate Schmucker. He may have trouble with pushers like Ramirez in heavy wind conditions, but a hard hitter like Sevin will see winners fly past him.

Anonymous said...

I agree I believe Schmucker is 2-0 vs Sanchez who is a very hard hitter. Sanchez just beat Reader for the 5.0 title in San Antonio. So regardless it should be a good match Sevin vs Schmucker.

Anonymous said...

I say it again, Match Ups, Match Ups, Match Ups. It's all about match up baby.

Anonymous said...

the pass is the pass. schmucker can't beat above average 4.5 players, NOW.

Anonymous said...

Kallus and Schmucker use to be the top dawgs in 4.5, until players realize that Kallus does not have a backhand and Schmucker can't play net.

Anonymous said...

So Sanchez is not above average player? Schmucker seems to beat good players, but loses to below average players at times. Kallus plain and simple is a head case no matter who he plays against.

At Lost Forest I did watch Schmucker beat Roger. I really thought Roger would win in an upset because he hits really good drop shots and Roger covers the court well, but Schmucker simply blew him off the court with his ground game. Also he tracked down every drop shot which surprised me since a lot of players seem to think his movement from baseline to net is lacking.

Speaking of game I also thought Brian Goldberg played awesome tennis on Friday night at Lost Forest. Best I have seen Brian play. I hope Brian has a great season.

oldschool said...

Kallus killed me the last time we played, he's a lot younger than me and his forehand is much better than mine...not a good draw for me.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like Tatu lacks confidence. Maybe Kallus will win a first round for a change. Good for him.

Anonymous said...

Kallus is an absolute joke.

Anonymous said...

Tatu loves to play the underdog. Tatu would never come out and say that he's going to beat someone, so I fully expected him to say that he's got virtually no chance. However, he's been working out in Austin and is in better shape this year than last. Getting beat regularly last year has motivated him this year. Sevin won't lose in the first round either, come to think of it I don't think he's going to lose in any round. Alex Hilliard is my dark horse in the Open but my odds on favorite is the #2 seed, a former Notre Dame player. So pretty much the Houston guys will go home empty handed and the Austin guys will sweep everything.

Anonymous said...

Yeah right Austin sweeps everything. I bet Sevin does not like playing Schmucker in the first round and don't forget Jochen Moser is lurking in the bottom half. I think it will be a Houston final Morton/Schmucker vs Moser in final.

Anonymous said...

Who wins the match between Taylor of Austin and Morton ?

Anonymous said...

That's an easy one. Herb Morton will crush Taylor. I think the finals will be settled between Moser vs Morton.

Anonymous said...

Unfortunately I am pulling out of Courtyard due to injury. Played the best I have in a very long time last week (thanks to good instruction) and was looking forward to playing Austin but my body (arm) has other ideas.

Good luck to the other Houston guys.

Herb

Anonymous said...

Sorry to hear about your injury Herb. Get well soon and come back strong next month in the Gallery Furniture tourney.

Picks for Hotters Open-

Men's Open - Chris Doyal
Men's 4.5 - Fernando Ontiveros
Men's 4.0 - Shane Broussard
Men's 3.5 - Art Schmidt

Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

ouch!!! that sucks, cuz you were playing really well. the worst thing about and injury is the ability to get that edge back.

Anonymous said...

Due to his record in Men's Open over the last how many years you can't but respect A. Valdez' game, but we will all soon know his true ability since he has entered the USTA National Men 30's Hard Court Championship in Austin that is set to play on 3/14. I was hoping the legend Christo Van Rensburg would have entered this year, but he hasn't.

Anonymous said...

Here's my two cents on matches at Courtyard.

Kallus vs. Tatu - Kallus has beat him before so Tatu is not in his head the way 90% of other players are. Plus Kallus usually plays well in matches like this in the 1st round since consolation still exists. If it was the 2nd round it would definitely benefit Tatu. I believe Kallus is in Guam right now and won't get back home til sometime Friday so I have to assume he is not practicing and will be screwed up by the time changes. Finally if it is windy, it will definitely favor Tatu cause Kallus abandons his game at the first signs of wind. If it is calm, it will favor Kallus and his flat shots. Unless Tatu has developed some new weapons, I would call this match up a 50/50 push.

Schmucker vs. Sevin - Unfortunately, I think like usual the better question will be whether Schmucker even shows. I think it is a shame that he shies away from matches like this with fake excuses as to why he cant' travel for a tournament he just signed up for last week. It should be a good matchup with decent rallies but I would have to favor Sevin given the confidence he must have after winning a major zone a couple of weeks ago. 4-1 in favor of Sevin, also 4-1 that Schmucker does not show.

Too bad Morton can't play.

Moser, I would have to assume he has a good shot in the bottom half. He beat Sevin in Abilene and then has played a couple of open events that really offer no clue as to where his game is.

I guess right now the early call would be Sevin vs. Moser in the finals with Sevin narrowly winning.

And this has nothing to do with Austin vs. Houston. I am from Houston and I find it funny that Austin likes to make everything into some kinda Davis Cup scenario as if will really give a shit about city vs. city results. Get a life Austin.

Anonymous said...

Your right perhaps Schmucker does not show up, but I disagree with you if Schmucker shows up I think he will win in straight sets over Sevin. Don't forget Schmucker has won two 4.5 MZ's. Of all the early matches this one is the one to watch.

Anonymous said...

Danm dude, can you write a shorter version of that. I started to think that was Kallus writing all that crap.

Anonymous said...

Good analysis, but you overestimate the seeds.

Anonymous said...

Seeds in the 4.5 division mean very little. Anyone in 4.5 can win or lose, however seeds mean more to the Open level less upsets more true to form.

Anonymous said...

Kallus should try find a way to hang in matches when wind or lack of practise prevents him from hitting forehands winners all day long. We all face the same conditions and we all have off-days.

Anonymous said...

Either Herb's arm is feeling better or the Tournament Director is slacking

Anonymous said...

"Don't forget Schmucker has won two 4.5 MZ's"

Continued Warm and Windy

SAT
3/7 80°
Mostly Cloudy and Windy ... 20% Chance Rain

These conditions favor Schmucker, that is if he shows up to play.

Schmucker was a manager at one of the Best Buys that is why he didn't play that much last year. I know that really bothered him last year. He no longer works for Best Buy anymore.

I have known Greg for some time and he is looking forward to playing again.

Then I can find out who you are. Then when I see you in a tounament,we can meet in the parking lot and have ourselves a little discussion. Now I'm not going to go into details of what might be discussed or done. But I can tell you with ABSOLUTE certainty, that you will never fucking insult me again. If you have any questions you fucking coward, you've got the number. Or you can just keep doing what you do best.Which is hiding behind your little keyboard next to your 3.0 city champ trophy, thinking you're somebody.Well guess what, you're a fucking NOBODY as long as you remain anonymous mr.god of penis. On a lighter note, congrats to Sanchez for playing a hell of a match.Yes I was tired after finally beating Manalo, but that's no excuse because Sanchez exploited that very wisely. He's also a very good friend of mine and we've drank many a beer together. So I couldn't have lost to a nicer guy. Speaking of nice guys,I finally got a chance to meet the Dugas brothers. Not only were they class acts,it looked like they hit the ball very solid as well.I don't know who wrote all of that shit about them, but whoever it is,they obviously haven't met them.

Any idea how the Houston guys did at Courtyard? My money is on Moser to bring it home for H-town in 4.5 singles.

As of Saturday night, most of the Houston guys across the board either didn't show or got beat, with a couple of exceptions. Houston is better than this, however, they just need to put this one behind them and focus on the Coke, oops Gallery Furniture, the only Houston tournament of any significance.

Anonymous said...

I heard that Moser won the 4.5 singles so exactly how is that a bad showing for Houston?

Anonymous said...

Do you know what the word exception means?

Anonymous said...

The 5.0 singles draw at Courtyard was a total joke. First 2 out of 6 were no show and then the 5.0 singles consolation was won by no show. Congrats to Moser in winning the 4.5 singles draw.

Anonymous said...

Yeah 5.0 it seems is a joke anymore. Must be nice winning two matches to gain 200pts. What is even more sad is that most of the 5.0 players would not win in 4.5's

Anonymous said...

How did Schmucker lose to Sevin? He must have improved.

Anonymous said...

Congrats to Jose Garcia on winning the consolation finals over Kallus.

The Men's 4.0 winner for Hooters tourney in SA was Shane Broussard. The score is reported wrong. Shane beat Daniel Pacheco 6-1,1-6, 6-4. Congrates Shane.

Anonymous said...

Seems like no more tournaments until the Coke. Who are the early favorites in 4.5? Moser has to be among them.

Anonymous said...

There is no 'Coke' anymore. It's now called Gallery Furniture 'Saves You Money'.

Anonymous said...

Moser had a very easy draw at Courtyard. Bottom half of draw was a joke. We will see how far Moser goes at Gallery.

Anonymous said...

No doubt that Gallery will have tougher draws (on that note I noticed Luedtke and Rivera have already registered), but Moser's first 2 rounds in Austin were against tough opponents. Before the tourney I thought Garcia would have been able to upset Moser or at least send him to three sets...Garcia just fell short at 5 and 4. Congrats to Moser in developing more of a game than just a 1st serve and forehand.

I think Kallus tanked against Tatu because he had to get back and film another "shamwow" ! commercial..you might know him as "vince"...

oldschool said...

You guys should lay off Kallus, he was a nice guy and a good sport who has other priorities besides tennis at the moment...

Anonymous said...

To the person that said, :reader it doesnt take two halves of a brain to know you will lose to anonymous 100% of the time".

Well the joke is on you because Reader only has 1/2 a brain!!! This is why that fat fart loses to losers!!!!

2009 Gallery Furniture Picks:

Men's Open - Evghenii Corduneanu
Men's 5.0 - Jason Gound
Men's 4.5 - Jochen Moser
Men's 4.0 - Tuyen Nguyen

Alejandro Sanchez wins 4.5 Gallery Furniture.

Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

Yeah I buy that, that is if he doesn't play up and try to win 5.0 draw.

Anonymous said...

Sanchez won the 5.0 draw in San Antonio drinking beer between matches.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker will take Sanchez down. If he can get past Sevin first.

Anonymous said...

Knutson will win! He will talk them to death.

Anonymous said...

what happen to saroach? remember last year he was overhyped then faked an injury. what excuses does he have this year

Anonymous said...

Kallus will miracously win his first round. Full of confidence he will storm to the finals where he will have his first-ever win over Schmucker.

To the 80% of you guys out there with class who don't throw insults under "anonymous." I thought you would be interested to know that my phone has not rang once. Not once has one of these pussies stepped forward with a name or a phone call explaining what their problem is. Hmmmm... let me think it must be "H.P.B.T.K.S" it's a common disease on this blog known as "Huge Pussy Behind the Keyboard Syndrome" And I think that a lot of you anonymous fags might suffer from this.If you have something to say, call me you whiny little pussy.Because that's all you are when you put some stupid name in front of you're posts.People like you not only ever get laid, you're turning this blog into a waste of time. 'who's thomas reader?'

What planet are you from bub???

Anonymous said...

Kallus has beaten Schmucker before.

Anonymous said...

I am talking about beating him for real, not Greg letting him have the match. Has Kallus ever actually won against Schmucker straight up, no favors? Not to my knowledge, and I think Kallus himself has told me he never beats Schmucker.

Anonymous said...

who cares... kallus and Schmucker lose to every now.

Anonymous said...

Hide the Fruit Loops!!! Here comes Reader with his lubricant!!!

Schmucker lost plenty of first rounds a couple years ago before going on to win consecutive major zones. He is the Agassi of Texas tennis. Everyone writes him off and then he comes out of nowhere and wins the whole tournament. Plus, his time of the season is still coming with the summer heat.

I watched the Sevin and Schmucker match at Courtyard and it was a good match. I reside in Austin and read this blogs comments regarding who was going to win etc. Most say you guys are pretty tough on each other in Houston. Anyways the match was tied at 4-4 in the third and Schmucker was up 40-15 then double faulted three times in row to allow Sevin to break for 5-4 in the third. Sevin then won the last game for the match. I thought both players were hitting the ball well especially how bad the wind was blowing that day.

Anonymous said...

Looks like Schmucker is active on the board today. The last comment and the one about him being the "Agassi of Texas" were penned by the man himself if you ask me. Nothing wrong with that cause the statements are relatively accurate, just kinda funny. You are a good guy Schmucker, no need to fish for compliments.

Anonymous said...

Schmucker doesn't even visit this site anymore. I used to tell him what people wrote about on here, but he doesn't care. Thinks this site is too negative especially to Kallus.

I would have to agree with him I hardly visit this site as well. Players on here should support each other not write BS about everyone. I also know Kallus does not get on here as well. I mean why should he?

Anonymous said...

I am from Austin too and watched that match between Schmucker and Sevin on saturday. I had not seen either of them play before, so I was interested. I feel like we all got cheated with the wind the way it was. They did not have that many rallies and both players were obviously frustrated. I feel like the wind bothered Sevin more with the big toss and serve that should get him some free points. I also saw Greg double fault 3 times in another game earlier, no doubt due to changing sides and dealing with the wind. I missed the end of the match. Although,in good weather I would give Sevin the edge, unless Greg could make him hit enough balls to tire him out.

Yeah I would agree. I saw the match as well and Sevin looks to be out of shape. Not for sure how long he will last in the summer heat. I heard after the match Sevin was cramping up which explains why he lost badly in the next round.

Surprised Sevin cramped up because the rallies were not that long, but if Sevin and Schmucker play again in the summer I believe Schmucker would be a huge favorite.

Hey Journeyman,

Maybe it's time for a new post? This one is getting rather long. The "Gallery" is coming soon, so maybe that could be one of the topics?
