Time to get out and work on that Coppertone...CORRECTION - Make that Copperfield tan.

Copperfield time. From the size and quality of the 4.5 draw it looks like this event is much more deservant of MZ status than Corpus was, but so it goes. It seems like a distant memory now, but there was actually a time when the 5.0 draw at this tourney made. Alas, no more. But that just means, the 4.5 guys get to welcome John Patch as a likely full time 4.5 player for the rest of the year. In singles, I will make an early call that Schmucker, Morgan, Kent, and Martinez will be in the mix late in the draw. Can't really call a winner, but would say Kent has a pretty good shot as this is his homecourt tourney. 4.5 doubles? Wow. The Dibuas going against each other for a change should make for an exciting match if their teams should meet. Would have liked to see a Dubuas vs. Dugas showdown, but this will do.

Copperfield tourney has always brought good tennis players across town and state. Lost Forest is the same way. Good luck to everyone playing this weekend. I'm blowing away my loot across town at KTSU tourney.

I think the 4.5 winner at Copperfield will be either Wayne Morgan or Greg Schmucker. I think those are the top two 4.5 players in the draw.

My dark horse pick is David Kent

The draws are out for Copperfield tourney. Good luck!

Morgan is definitely the favorite in 4.5.
Martinez, Patch, Kent all in serious running. Schmucker has been playing really well, could contend. Morales solid, could go deep but not likely to win. Kallus could do well in the heat. Griffin totally has the game but is very inconsistent so could lose first round or be in the final.
Lots of other good players in the draw like Goldberg and Giordanelli Should be an interesting tournament.

I think Morgan and Schmucker will make it to the finals. The heat could be a huge factor in this tournament. Not too many players can take the heat plus the 100% humidity. Only two in the draw that I know can is Kallus and Schmucker. Martinez looks to be in good shape as well. Interesting match between him and Kallus if Martinez wins his first round match.

I say Goldberger will bring home the swag from Copperfield.

What do you think of some of the first rd. matchups in the 4.5 draws?

Anonymous said...

Goldfish all the way!

Anonymous said...

Nah, it's Patchy all the way.

Interesting how the 8 seed in the 4.5's got a bye, while the 5, 6, and 7 have to play first round.

smells fishy and i don't mean goldfish

Patchy got himself a bye at Copperfield. How nice!

Go Dugas Bros. go in Copperfield tourney. You guys got my vote.

No way Ricardo Martinez is going to win 4.5, he pulled his crotch muscle last week. New pick is Griffin.

What ever happened to that looser Lord of the Beans???

Dugas will not win

Martines won Copperfield.

Damn it was hot out there friday at Copperfield. Several players could not hang. I know Griffin for one vomited.. A little cooler and cloudy today

Anonymous said...

what did i tell you...martinez will win and he did. congrats!

Anonymous said...

Martinez should be playing 5.0.

Anonymous said...

Martinez is not a 5.0.

Congrats to this weekend's winners:

Men's Open - D. Wanja
Men's 4.5 - R. Martinez
Men's 4.0 - B. Inting

Job well done.

I watched Martinez this weekend and he is not a 5.0 player. A very solid 4.5 player but not a 5.0.

What's the difference between 4.5 & 5.0. Alejandro Sanchez Proved it the same. Or 5.0 is only for elite 4.5 MZ winners! What if I win 5.0 MZ and lose in the 1st Rd. in 4.5s. What will I then be called? Current 5.0 players are average 4.5 players except for LOTS if you asked me.

too bad moser did not play
copperfield. would have been a good match to see him play martinez again. last time it went 3 sets at the fall fest.

OMon Dibua beat former Texas A&m player Hunter Emmott in straight sets. Good result for a "4.5" player.

Where is Moser, Schmucker, and Kallus for Waco? I didn't see their names on the players list. I would be surprised if none of them are going.

Waco Regional Tennis and Fitness is one of the best tennis facilities in Texas. Why can't Houston have something like that?

Anonymous said...

I agree that Waco TC is good, but have you seen the HEB Center in Corpus. I was surprised that they would put such a great tennis center in such a place.

How many MZ points can you use for a yearly ranking? I see you take the five highest but how many of the five can be MZ.

Send Nancy Perkins an email and she will explain it to you. Her email is : nperkins@texas.usta.com

Here's what Nancy Perkins wrote,

In Adult Divisions: player’s “best 5” tournament results in the singles divisions and “best 4” tournament results in the doubles divisions in a Ranking period are counted. A player can play as many events as he/she wants, but only the results from the “best 4 or 5” will be used in determining the rankings.

The Masters count as one of those tournaments, if they were one of your personal best 4 or 5 tournaments.

Tournament at Memorial Park Guys! It is the same weekend as Waco.

Waco 4.0 Pick:

Who picked Tuyen to win over Bruce Inting has not been watching 4.0 tennis. Bruce has not lost on paper (either tournament or league) in over a month. His fitness is a little questionable giving the heat in Waco but his results speak for them selves.

Bruce and Tuyen will have much tougher competition on Thursday in league vs. Sienna than all weekend in Waco.

Bruce Inting ain't playing In Waco, Homes.

So, who won Waco Open man?

wow, this blog looks like it's seriously going to shit. I used to at least be entertained, but now it's just a waste of time.

Wow Bruce is that good that he can win a MZ without even playing.
